So, a NGD is coming up soon for me. I'm selling my Strat (realized that single coil pickups are not for me... missed my humbucker-equipped guitar), and with the money, I'm getting an Agile Les Paul clone. I've narrowed it down to these two:
http://www.rondomusic.com/al-20002ts.html
http://www.rondomusic.com/al2000blkgd.html
I'm definitely leaning towards the sunburst one, but I haven't decided for sure. What do you guys think?
If the pickups aren't up to snuff, I'll be replacing them with a pair of GFS Vintage '59's (http://store.guitarfetish.com/v59niclalpah.html).

I've never been a big fan of gold hardware (gold top finish is another matter ), so I'd suggest
the tobacco sunburst (they call it "2-tone" sunburst or whatever, but the classic name is tobacco sunburst
Actually, personally, I'd go with one of these (but it's just personal preference):

http://www.rondomusic.com/al2000te.html
http://www.rondomusic.com/al2000blueflame.html
http://www.rondomusic.com/al2000goldhum.html
But really, this (or at least a guitar with this color scheme) will likely be my next guitar:

LOVE the "black and white" look of the silverburst.

Oh yeah, but definitely a good call on going with GFS pickups.
I plan to replace the pickups on my washburn guitar to some Fat Pats by GFS after I get the fret work done.

I'm definitely going with the tobacco burst. I like the black cherry colors, but that color looks like the typical Epiphone SG/LP color that a ton of people have. I don't really like any of the flamed ones too much. I just like my guitars to look classic I guess, and I'm a sucker for more natural looking finishes (the brown part of the burst looks preeeeetty). I've never liked gold tops too much, and the silver burst just doesn't float my fancy, either. I'm too picky.

I think you made a good choice and I like Richie's pick too. Although he doesn't know it, Richie convinced me to pick up a Xaviere guitar about a month ago. It was well worth the cheap price and will make an excellent back-up guitar for me should I ever start gigging again.

Supposedly they are blemished but I couldn't find anything wrong with mine.

New Xavieres will be up this evening on Guitarfetish.com. That's why I haven't taken the plunge with the Agile yet... I want to see what Jay at GF has to offer.

I'm probably gonna wish that I held off on my purchase last month or that I had more money right now for another purchase.

Jobs certainly help.
I've seen a few pics of the new Xaviere thinline telecasters over at the harmony-central forums, and I think fap is a good word to describe them.
They're only $169, too.

I wish they had the pickguard style and color scheme of the second one in a semi hollow body like the first one.

I do too. I would get the semi-hollow and modify it to fit P90's. Gah.

What kind of sound do P90s have? I've pretty much only played on humbucker equipped guitars and
my cheapy strat clone.

SmarmySir
| | #21 posted June 27, 2008 at 9:44pm (EST) |
They're technically single coils, but dirtier, louder, and etc. Go to youtube and do a search on P90 equipped guitars to see how they sound. On second thought, here's a decent one:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=iJ1SKPlqfQ0
It's actually the same model guitar I posted above with P90's, just a different color.

Just bought this guitar:

The wait for it to get here will be absolute torture. I plan on swapping out the white pickguard for a black one, and get a P90 for the neck position. ME WANT NOAW!

Oh, haha.
It came a week ago. It's ok. I'm not as hot on the single coils as I thought I would be. Plus, the neck has way too much finish on it and my fingers don't want to slide very easily. Sounds great for wat it is though. I'm sending it back tomorrow and then getting this:
http://www.rondomusic.com/product1063.html
If that one doesn't work out I'll send it back and get a Agile AL-2000 Les Paul copy and be done with all this mess.

I sort of did the opposite. I originally ordered an SX gold top w/a set neck from Rondo, but a single fret (somewhere around the 16th fret or so)
was filed funky and so buzzed out that note completely. Obviously not a huge deal, but I'm finally being more assertive (as opposed to the
old me that would have settled), so I sent it back hoping for an exchange. They were sold out though, so they just sent a refund.
Ended up needing that money for groceries or bills at the time anyway, so it was no big deal, really. But the next month I bought
my Xaviere guitar. Overall, I'm digging it, but the fretboard seems kind of sticky or gritty. It's kind of hard to bend strings.
I keep meaning to email the guy who runs things over there at guitar fetish about it to see what he has to say...I just don't wanna
go through the hassle of an other exchange thing...and I'm not much of a lead player, so it's really not a big deal to me.
Anyway, hope the new guitar works out better for you.

I might be getting a drum set (finally!) Tuesday. There's a guy in a town about 45 minutes away selling one on Craigslist. He's coming to town so I can look at it, but someone else has first dibs. He's selling it for $80 (so it's probably crap, but I need whatever I can get) and it's got all the basics except a ride. My dad doesn't know I'm buying it... |

Ok, so I'm weird. I just threw all previous guitar plans out the window and... I just bought a guitar from Ebay. I'm just going back to my roots - a nice looking guitar that has humbuckers and can do shredding, blues, whatever. Plus, it's a trusted name (Ibanez). Finally, as a bonus, the guitar is neck-thru, which is something I've alway wanted. It also has a beautiful satin finish over the natural wood, which is also something I'm a sucker for. Pics:

Yeah, my Xaviere guitar has a set neck which was one of the things that impressed me considering the price.
Anyway, that's a nice looking guitar. Looks like it has some nice jumbo frets too. Ever since I played on a guitar
with jumbo frets, playing a guitar with smaller frets just feels like so much more work to me.

Richie, my friend, it's more than a set neck... it's a neck-thru. Which means the piece of wood that the neck is a part of runs completely through the center of the guitar. Here's a better representation of neck-thru:

Interesting. Never seen that before. Whenever I heard neck-through, I just assumed it was another way of saying set neck.
Any advantages of neck through design? I've heard the main advantage of set neck over bolt on is better sustain.
Just googled it. Guess it just comes down to preference, really, between bolt on, set or neck thru. They all seem to have
their advantages and disadvantages.

Eh, I guess I just dig the concept and the looks of it really... though I'm sure it helps with tone and sustain and everything. I'm freaking pumped about this guitar. Also, the good news? I won't be tempted to return it after a while because I got it off ebay, so I'm sticking with it!

Ok, so after some research, maybe it's not neck-thru after all. It's set neck, which is fine with me anyway. Looks pretty darn convincing, though!

Well, it came today. IT'S OH SO VERY NICE! The wood and finish are beautiful, the action is nice and low, the neck has a thin profile, yet has a wide fretboard, so it's supremely playable. I'm happy with my choice.
