I just discovered a trick to get more value out of selling high-level stuff. Master-level mercantile can give a merchant 500 gold and it bumps up their max pay out.
OK, so getting master mercantile is really hard. But.... you can make a spell if you're in the Mage's guile to bump your Mercantile up +100 for 5 seconds. I think you need restoration 50 for that, but you might be able to pull it off with a lower + too.
So, then you go to the merchant, cast the merc +100 spell, talk to them, and you get the option to invest in the store + 500. voilą! Now you can get higher payouts. The guy I'd been using went from 1200 max to 1700 max. It's not a huge win, but it's nice to make a little extra on those $5K Daedric war-hammers that you dragged in from Oblivion. Over time the +500 gain should pay off more and more...
I foolishing made merchantile one of my main stats. I've got it up to 51, but it's stalled there. I don't know how to get it to go up more at this point. So, there's 5 levels I may never be able to get. *shrug* | Ranchan

*smacks forehead* I totally forgot about magically bumping up merchantile skills. >_<
the extra 500 gc is definitely an improvement in the long run.

I wonder if this is actually a bug. I tried to do similar things with other skills and it didn't work. e.g. zapping my armorer skill over 75 didn't allow me to take my armor/weapons to 125% ...
But, I think it worked for acrobatics... I jumped on water... I think. I plan to try it in Oblivion to see if I can jump on lava. I swam through lava a couple days ago. I only lost about 1/2 my hit points after a 5 second swim. So, it was a nice shortcut. | Trash

apparently buffing you luck is supposed to help with chest loots, but I really haven't seen a difference. Try making a 1 sec 100+ luck spell and see if you notice a difference.
As for the acrobatics, there isn't much point to working on it after you reach level 50 on it. Even then, I hardly ues the dodges when I'm in combat.

I agree on acrobatics... I'll try that luck trick. Chests usually have crap in them, but I've been ignoring my luck stat (I think it's 50). | Trash

I'll admit that I cheated to modify my luck to 100, but I have not observed in any way how it affects the overall gameplay.
