This thread is for you to list your Top 10 Favorite console/computer RPGs.If you have time, go ahead and mention what you liked most about each one.

Virtuadept's Top 10 RPGs
10. Might & Magic 4/5: World of Xeen - awesome sense of humor, crisp graphics for its day, lots of fun quests, great turn based combat.
9. Final Fantasy VII (PS1) - A very cool story and for its day it was simply breathtaking gorgeous. Great turn-based battle system also. Loved the scifi/fantasy mix.
8. Chrono Trigger (SNES) - Great 8-bit graphics for its day, still quite charming, and amazing soundtrack, wonderful story and a fun battle system.
7. Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1) - A good story with lovable characters and a great turn-based tactical combat engine.
6. Baldur's Gate 2 (PC) - Tons and I mean tons of great quests, great NPCs, and a fun real-time pause-able combat engine.
5. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) - Probably the most immersive 3D game I've ever played. Tons of great quests, awesome graphics.
4. Fallout (PC) - War. War never changes. A game that changes depending on how you choose to play it, with great turn-based combat, in a post apocalypse setting.
3. Final Fantasy X (PS2) - One of the few really long RPGs I managed to finish, played with my wife, we clocked in at around 78 hours at the finale. I loved the turn based battle system, and the familiar FF elements. Adding voice acting puts this at the top of the FF series if you ask me.
2. Planescape: Torment (PC) - The best story of any RPG I've ever played and the only one that ever got me thinking about philosophical questions such as... "What can change the nature of a man?" It had some shallow combat and other quirks plus it's kind of dated graphically but this is still a must-play game.

drum roll....

1. World of Warcraft (PC) - This is the only MMORPG to hold my attention for almost 2 years and going. Superb quests, great art style, and top-notch Blizzard game balance makes this one of the most addictive and engaging games I've ever played.

My top ten rpg's:

1. Final Fantasy IV- The characters are cool, the graphics and sound are great, and a compelling story is the best way to describe this game.
2. Final Fantasy X- The same as above but the love story is kind of over-the-top in my opinion.
3. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion- Outstanding in every aspect besides character models being ugly and boring Fighter's Guild and Mage's Guild quests.
4. Super Mario RPG- Fantastic game.
5. Tales of Symphonia(might be considered an action/rpg)- Best game on the GC.
6. Final Fantasy Tactics- The characters are great and the story is a bit long, but decent. I liked the combat system a lot.
7. Final Fantasy IX- Good story, too many random battles, and a bit too easy.
8. Dark Cloud- My 2nd PS2 game that I owned. Fun, but a bit repetitive.
9. Chrono Cross- I didn't play much of this one, but when I played it I loved it.
10 .Star Ocean 2- Again, I didn't play much of it, but I watched my brother play it, and everything about it was great besides the graphics.

10. Dark Cloud 2 (PS2) - Very unique game, but it got way to repetitive and boring.
9. Baten Katios (GC) - Interested card battle system that was fun, but also confusing. Decent story and characters, Great music and artwork.
8. Super Mario RPG (SNES) - Classic. Memorable characters, solid gameplay, interesting story.
7. Earthbound (SNES) - Another classic. Great battle system, cool characters, decent story.
6. Enchanted Arms (X360) - I know a lot of people don't like this game, but I loved it. Loved the gameplay and story. Played straight through this game, which doesn't happen often.
5. Golden Sun(s) (GBA) - These are the PERFECT handheld RPGs. Long, fun, good graphics. Really great RPGs.
4. Paper Mario (N64) - Nothing really pops out about this game, but it's a masterpiece. Really fun game.
3. Paper Mario 2 (GC) Similar to the first, but I enjoyed it a little more. Just a wacky, fun game.
2. Final Fantasy X (PS2) Amazing story, great graphics, interesting characters, perfect gameplay. I absolutely love this game.
1. Final Fantasy IX (PS1) Easily my favorite RPG. I loved the characters, story, gameplayer, characters. Everything. I've been getting the itch to playthrough it again, so I might do that soon.

1) Super Mario RPG (SNES) - My favorite game EVER. The level of humor in this game, and the fun of the battle system have yet to be matched.

2) Chrono Trigger (SNES) - Had some of my favorite characters in any game (Frog is probably one of my favorite of all time). The dual tech system has yet to be topped.

3) Final Fantasy IX (PSX) - Once again, GREAT characters. It brought back the character specific techniques that I thought were missing in other Final Fantasies (7 and 8).

4) Odium (PC) - Not a very popular game (or even a great game for that matter), but you can't really condemn a game that combines the setting of Resident Evil with the gameplay of Final Fantasy Tactics...and have it make sense. The only reason I could never play this game more was the utter lack of ammo. I hope someone takes this idea and does more with it...

5) Final Fantasy Tactics - It actually took a while for this game (hell, even this genre) to grow on me. I've sense become addicted to the Tactics-like battle system.

6) Paper Mario - It's no Mario RPG, but it gets by ok by still being fun.

7) Final Fantasy XII - I haven't played this as much as I would have liked, but I still like it for the new and improved battle system.

8) Pokemon Red/Blue - Yeah, this game has no personality whatsoever, but I still like it for some reason. I still feel nostalgic whenever I try to play the newer games, because they have yet to really expand on what made these so good.

9) Final Fantasy VI - Again, I didn't get as far as I would have liked, but I still loved it (if not just because it was my first Final Fantasy) because of the complete range of characters and abilities...something that has yet to be matched in later Final Fantasies.

10) Front Mission 3 - I typically avoid games with mech suits, but for some reason Front Mission just felt right. It's like Tactics, but it reminded me more of Odium, because of the weapon accuracy.

In no particular order. I've intentionally only mentioned two FF games because, were I to include all of my faves, it'd be a lop-sided list...

Skies of Arcadia
Xenosaga
Final Fantasy VI
Vagrant Story
Lunar Silver Star Story
Final Fantasy VII
Planescape Torment
Baldur's Gate II
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Chrono Trigger

Meh, top ten ain't enough...so many greats left out...

I don't think I can narrow my favorites to only 10, but I do know that Ultima VII, Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate 2 + Throne of Bhaal, Fallout 1 and 2, Morrowind, Arcanum, Diablo 2, Oblivion, Sacred, Neverwinter Nights 1 + 2, Exile 3, Darksun Shattered Lands, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, Anachronox, Castle of the Winds, Badblood, The Witcher...and more...are amongst them. And this doesn't include the few console RPGs that I've played before, like Shadorun, the FF series, and Shining Soul II.

Speaking of console RPGs, Illusion of Gaia was one I was constantly playing back then. And the Shining Force games of course, if you consider them RPGs.

Also, I've always thought of them as Adventure games more than RPG's, but the Quest for Glory games are all worth mentioning too.

I also have Ultima VIII and IX, but what I really want to get is a boxed Ultima Collection.

Lionheart was just plain not finished. It's so obvious it's painful. They started off great and then you can see after about 5 hours of content or so they must have just ran out of time for development and that's when it starts to just be endless fighting and boredom.

I have difficulty getting into the vast majority of jRPG and sticking with them to the end. Shadowrun and the Shining Force games are practically the only console RPGs that have entertained me enough to complete, and one's more of a computer styled RPG and the others are more like strategy games.

The Baldur's Gate games are classic, and I enjoyed Icewind Dale even though I'm not a fan of hack and slash, but Neverwinter Nights bored me out of my mind. I'm still trudging through the OCs. The lack of a party, 3rd edition rules, the pointless jump to 3D graphics (at the time) that made everything look identical, the action/adventure feel to the gameplay... it was just mind numbing. I've heard Neverwinter Nights 2 is much better (particularly with Mask of the Betrayer), so I'm hoping to try it out eventually.

Lionheart is, sadly, best left unmentioned.

In no order..

Mass Effect - Although the ending was terrible..
Morrowind
Final Fantasy X
Star Ocean: Til The End of Time
Front Mission
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
Legend of The Dragoon
Lost Odyssey
Legend of Mana
Oblivion

I'm still fresh into the role-playing genre. Morrowind was the first rpg I've played which really, really amazed me. I, personally think it's the best western rpg thus far. I've been sliding towards jrpgs because I like the stories and tactics. Theres a lot of games I still want to try like Skies of Arcadia and atleast one of the Tales' games, Valkyrie Profile, Folklore, Eternal Sonata, Shadow Hearts, Xenosaga, and Shining Force.

Has anyone here played Shining Force Neo? It looks pretty cool.
