SpaceForce: Rogue Universe gets 6 out of 8 at "Out of Eight". This is sort of an obscure new space themed PC RPG. Sounds like it might not be so good for beginners.

Xbox 360 owners around the world can rejoice as Microsoft Game Studios has given Blue Dragon release dates for both North America and Europe. For once European gamers will be able to say they got the game first, as it will be coming out on August 24 in Europe and August 28 in North America.

In Blue Dragon, players will take on the role of a young boy named Shu who, with the help of four companions, will battle the forces of evil. Shu's motley crew has the ability to control phantom creatures such as a minotaur, a phoenix or a dragon and with these powers must struggle to save the world. The game's development team boasts of several big names. Hironobu Sakaguchi, best known as the creator of the Final Fantasy series, produced the game. Character designs were done by Akira Toriyama, well known for his work on Dragon Ball Z and, in the RPG world, for his work on the Dragon Quest series and Chrono Trigger. Nobuo Uematsu, also of Final Fantasy fame, composed the score.

BLUE DRAGON DEMO on XBLM on July 20th!!!!

Reports from Japan suggest that a demo of Sakaguchi-san's Xbox 360 based RPG will be released in a couple of weeks time...

It's already the most popular Xbox 360 titles ever in Japan, but it seems that Microsoft isn't letting expectations drops ahead Blue Dragon's release in the West this August. In a report from Japan's Famitsu, an "International Demo" of Hironobu Sakaguchi's RPG will be released over Xbox Live Marketplace from July 20th.

Yet to be confirmed by Microsoft, the publication reports that the demo will cover two hours of game time, and would use English voice-overs - though localised languages will apparently be integrated into the download.

Blue Dragon is set for release across Europe on August 24th and North America on August 28th.

New Hellgate London trailer on GamesRadar!

For those not in the know, Hellgate London is supposed to be the spiritual sequel to Diablo II. It's set in modern times, and is in full 3D, but look for it to have similar gameplay features.

Nethergate Resurrection is released for Windows.

What is Nethergate Resurrection? I'm glad you asked. There is a little shareware RPG company called Spiderweb Software that has been making quality independent RPG games since the early 90's. The company is owned by Jeff Vogel and from what I know most of the work is done by Jeff solo on most of the games. Nethergate Resurrection is a remake of a game called Nethergate which was an amazing story set in a mythic Britannia during the Roman conquest of what is now known as the UK. You can be roman or celt, in this semi-historical RPG. There is a free demo to try. I will warn you, the graphics are old-school, but the combat engine is fantastic.

More info and demo on Spiderweb's web site.

With a disappointing average ranking of 52% on GameRankings, it looks like Two Worlds is not a keeper and not the Oblivion Killer it was hyped of possibly being. I wish it had even come close, but ah well. Here's a very entertaining video review.

I did not expect it to be an Oblivion killer. Oblivion cannot be topped except by its eventual successor: Elder Scrolls V.

Well but based on the video reviews I've watched, that's what it is. A cheap Oblivion knock-off. If they were going to compare it to Oblivion they should have made sure it at least compared relatively favorably. Now, I will probably pick it up anyway (at a budget price), but it's a shame really.

And in other RPG news...

Blue Dragon Rocks! Ignore the reviewers, they are almost all idiots (except the ones giving it 8/10 or better).

If I find Two Worlds for maybe $15-20, I might pick it up, but otherwise it's not worth my money.

Blue Dragon is pretty lame, in my opinion. It feels all too generic, and the art style is a bit tiring, considering I've seen it many times before. The characters look like they're seven years old, when they're actually supposed to be teenagers.

Been playing the pre-order beta for HELLGATE: LONDON. Basically in a nutshell this is Diablo 3 in 3D with guns. So far it's been really easy but I remember D2LOD was pretty damn easy on the normal setting also until you got into the Nightmare mode. Just been strictly soloing so far. I haven't even figured out how to work the chat interface yet, I think I may actually have to resort to looking up help online which means the interface for chatting needs some work. The level up system will be extremely familiar to fans of Diablo 2, but the skill trees are much bigger. The classes are somewhat reminiscent of D2 classes in some ways. You got a dual-sword "barbarian" type class, a magic blasting "sorc" type class, and a couple of "necro/druid" pet using classes, etc. They aren't called that, of course. And they do have their own flavor especially since this is set in a futuristic time with guns and stuff. The random loot drops are a fun and cool as D2 was.

Will post more on this as I play more. So far I'm definitely glad I pre-ordered this, it's got a lot of potential, hopefully it really is as great as D2LOD was.

Ripped from Gamespot:

EA celebrates 10 years of Ultima Online
Ten years ago this week, Richard Garriott's buggy, near-unplayable mess of a game Ultima Online debuted, and subsequently transformed the massively multiplayer online gaming space. In the years since, Ultima Online has been updated countless times, and has garnered seven full expansions. Its latest update, Ultima Online: Kingdom Reborn, introduced the largest changes yet to the game when it was released in August, including a complete graphical overhaul.

In recognition of the game's 10-year anniversary, EA has announced the "Return to Britannia" initiative. Past subscribers of the game can download the free Kingdom Reborn update through Ultima Online's Web site, and then play the game gratis until October 9. EA will also be hosting a number of events during this period, including a monster hunt where players can win loot such as an ankh pendant necklace, a map of Brittania, an Ultima Online commemorative sculpture, and a virtue armor set.

Some new PC rpg I never heard of now has a demo out, sounds like a futuristic RPG. From Worth Playing "Escape from Paradise City":

In a dystopian world that combines a dark underworld and elements of the fantastic, the player will be required to infiltrate the gangs of Paradise City on behalf of a powerful government agency that, despite its influence, has been unable to introduce even a glimmer of law and order to this horribly corrupt city. In an intertwining chapter-driven story, the player takes turns controlling one of three gritty characters that, for their own reason, have “volunteered” to get to the bottom of the mystery behind the controlling crime syndicate’s power.

The player's characters will become more powerful as they claw their way up the echelons of the underworld and as their individual stories begin to overlap. As the player’s influence on the city grows, the businesses, the payoffs and the number of confrontations with rival gangs will enable the player to gain experience and become powerful enough to take control of the city piece by piece. After becoming a underworld force to be reckoned with, the player will discover that the gang wars have been masterminded by a secret society, at the head of which are a coterie of terrifyingly dangerous and powerful figures that, it seems, no bullet will stop.
