Project costs to date:

Product..............................Cost
71 Lemans........................$3,200.00
Sound deadener.............$244.00
Carpet.................................$134.00
Trunk mat...........................$45.00
Seats...................................$200.00
Radiator..............................$227.00
Misc......................................$117.00
Engine.................................$1780 + $30 freighting + $476 freighting = $2,286
Holley 650 CFM carb... $110 included rebuild kit and a older style edelbrock performer intake (4 barrel). Will be selling the intake for probably $50ish.
Motor mounts....................$20
Total to date:....................$6,583

Up coming costs: Distributor - will likely go MSD pontiac ready-to-run for $350ish. Comes with coil. Also will need MSD ignition, either a used 6AL-2 or 6 series digital, 100-200 respectively. After that need headers, at which point I will decide if I will run edelbrock aluminum heads (will flow 330 CFM for $2300 from kaufman racing) or stay with my current heads that flow about 210 cfm but for $600 in porting could flow 250cfm or so. Headers will be 200-400 depending on what i get.

and project costs in the first post.

in hind site i could have done better if i was more patient.
http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/817258844.h... i would have rather owned that. better year, with 400. i will probably end up spending $3200 or so on the engine itself all said and done (though i could get by on about 1k, but i want max powah)

So besides your time and initial cost of it, youve spent little under a grand, not so bad.

Engine cost is understandable, not a biggie for you since you make abour 4 grand a day

You got him to go for 3200 to save 300 though

the craigslist posting isnt my car, its one i want if i hadnt bought mine. its a 69 with a 400 and th400 transmission. i have a 71 with a 350 and 350th transmission. from the fenders back, the cars are the same minus a couple of lines. but 69s have much sexier grills and compatible with ram air hoods. for mine to be compatible with a ramair hood, i would need the t41 endura package. to buy a front clip, i would need to spend about $500 and then 400 on the hood. it would then look like this in the front image
and with an existing 400/400 combo, i would need to spend about $2k to get to the power I am wanting and would have a numbers matching car.
and the guy i bought from originally was asking 3800, i talked him down to 3200

You should just take the seating back out and sell it to me.

I need some sound deadener, but I'd have no idea how to install it in.

oh and bones, the sound deadener, you would need to take everything out of your car (seats, carpet, trim, anything below carpets) so youre at bare metal. you then peal off back of paper part of the sound deadener, lay it down and roll it like its wall paper. it sets pretty much instantaneously. do like 1'x1' patches and your good to go!

Yeah, mine doesnt have the huge floor or carpet (which is why I need the soundeadener in the first place), so that's already taken care off. I only need to bust out the doors (and the top?), but that's still more work than I want to do, or possibly handle. Plus I hear you can fudge it up if you dont do it right?

True, duh! And I really dont know if there are any wiring crap in this one that I can fudge up, I might void the warranty and wont get free service if something goes wrong anymore! Maybe in a few years. Im a pussy.

PS. I just read your 1'x1' part, why didnt I think of that! * yes *

cuz youre stupid? and theres no wiring crap. you lift the wires up and put the deadener beneath it. you can only void warranties on things that you are actually effecting.

Doh! Why haven't I seen this thread before?? Stupid Chad. Not telling me and all.

Great looking stuff, Chad! That engine is nice!

Do you know the weight of that sucker? In any case, we were talking about shipping, so I pulled up my old stuff from 2005 when I bought the 396. Engine cost me $1200 total (but it didn't look anywhere near as nice as yours). Plus I paid another $200 for the carb and fuel line from the guy.

In any case, total weight was 590 lbs and I paid $291 to get it from Texas to Michigan. Price was good because he dropped it off right at their freight terminal -- and I had it shipped to a local loading dock here (as I said in the other thread).

650 pounds but about 50 pounds of that is in the crating. pontiac engines weigh right at 600 pounds +/- 10 pounds.

the heads it has on now (#13) flow about 210-220 CFM. To get them ported to flow 250-260 (about as good as the d-port heads can flow) it would be about $600. Or for $2350 I could get aluminum edelbrock that are based on the ram air IV heads (basically factory racing heads) that flow 280 CFM stock at $2000 or through Kaufman racing flow 310-330 for $2300.

As it is set up right now, with a good ignition and exhaust set up, should be 400 HP give or take. With the e-heads it would be in the high 400s. At least based on what people with similar builds get.

carb i am going to be going fairly cheap with a 600 CFM quadrajet to start.
