I am going to add the PAST USERNAMES function to the next script update. Does anyone have a preference on how this should be implemented?
Should it just be a command where you type... /whowas USERNAME and then the script will display on screen the past names? Or should it be on the menu when you right click someone. Should the previous names just show up on the menu for you to see, or should the past names display in the chat screen?
Bill has this as a subscriber only feature... I will put it into the advanced script.
POST YOUR OPINION on how you would like this to work.

Having it show up in the menu when you right click a username sounds good to me.

bill does not send this user info to chat... so i have to send a "web-crawler" to a user's gtz page, and extract the info from the html document it sees, and then return that info to mIRC and display it in a convenient manner.
I got the hard stuff all coded now, but since bill made it a subscriber feature... it will be a bit tricky to make this work for non-subscribers. |

Wow. Sounds complicated. I've retained virtually nothing from the programming classes I took back in college.

Why do you care what we have to say? Its not like we are the ones making the script, you could put anything you wanted into it and we would not be able to do anything about it. In other words your pretty much a fascist. |

Why would he be a fascist if he's asking for our opinions?

He doesn't understand what fascism is. Every script update, prior to release, has had one or more beta testers, offering feedback and input on the final version. Also... most functions of the script are options, where the users can select the features he likes... and is not forced to use features he doesn't like. There are exceptions, but anything that is not "optional" is likely done that way for a reason. |

Just so you know I was not being serious. I was merely stating that you are the only one who has access to edit the script. So, you can do whatever you want. |

Anyone who writes a computer program makes it do what they programmed it to do... how is that fascism? That is like saying... any singer who records a song, makes you listen to it with the words and music THEY wanted, and if you buy their record or CD, you are stuck with how they made it.
And yes, I can make the program do whatever... but the reason I ask what people want is so I can make the program do what THEY want too.
I don't understand why this upsets you. |

It does not upset me. You misunderstood. ALL I am stating is you can do whatever you want it is your script. I did not say that bothered me in any way. I appreciate you trying to gain input from us as we also use the script. It was merely a statement of fact and acknowledgment that you are the only one that may re-code your script. I was not being serious when i said you were like a fascist I was just relating the situation to it. Please disregard my former posts. |

Ah... I guess I misunderstood... you can always add a smiley or to indicate a lighter side to a comment.
BTW, did you know that you can use the DEF button to DEFINE the F2 thru F11 functions? I set the script up so each user can customize 10 function keys (both left and right click functions), and in that sense, each user can re-code that part of the script without actually altering the script file.
F1 thru F12 on the advanced script toolbar is the same as the keyboard function keys... I just added toolbar buttons so you have the option of either pressing the keyboard F-key or clicking the mouse on them... and YOU can define what they do when pressed or clicked (F1 and F12 are pre-defined... you have F2 thru F11 at your disposal).

I like the /whowas USERNAME idea.

Don't make it a backslash command or whatever. Just make it a thing where you can right click then select it. |

How about if I do both? I have the code completed to get the past usernames, and I can include both ways of displaying the info. so....
a) if you type this command (/whowas oldschoolgamer), then you will get this...
b) if you just right click the users name, then his past names will appear on the menu with his other info like this...
AND... if you click the past usernames that appear on the menu... it will echo to the chat screen for you to COPY and PASTE. |

That WOULD work for you if you were a subscriber. Bill made this function a "subscriber-only" feature. I have to figure out how to provide this to non-subscribers... and unfortunately...
...even if I do provide this for non-subscribers... it will have to be a typed command rather than a menu slection. |

Well, what other subscriber only features are there in mIRC? |
PiemJi
| | #21 posted August 19, 2009 at 10:40am (EST) |
For the most part, subscriber option are non-functional features and mostly affect the appearance of the website... color scheme, text size and text font, which in mIRC are selectable thru mIRC. Features like Forum avatars and Forum signatures, and other features relating to forums, simply do not apply to chat at all. |

The mIRC Advanced Script is only 4 weeks too...definitely a good investment.

Oh yeah... the subscriber feature of keeping notes on specific users is a subscriber feature that I have on the advanced script menu in mIRC... and the nice part is... your notes are personal and saved to your own PC... not put on the GTZ site where the mods may have access to read them. |
