This is the "official" thread for the GameTZ Cache. The cache is a traveling collection of items sent from trader to trader. The items in the cache can range in value from being worth only $1 or so to almost anything. Each trader removes one item from the cache and then adds in an item of their choice. The items should be video game, movie, music, or book related in some way -- although that is fairly open if you want to add anything interesting. (You may remove more than one item if you replace it with more than one item or a single item of "value" equal to or greater than what was removed.)
The goal is not really to get great items of value out of this. It is more for the fun of trading the cache around and make swaps within it.
Try to replace whatever you take with something of equal or greater value.
If you would like to be involved, post here to get signed up and I will add you to the list. (Signups are now closed -- GameTZ Cache #2 signups coming soon!) When it is your turn, you will be contacted by the current holder of the cache. At that time, a trade should be created between you. The next receiver of the cache must send 40 weeks of subtime to the cache holder! This is to help ensure that the cache continues to move along. Once the transfer is completed, the cache holder ships the cache out. When you receive the cache, be sure to report here so that we can mark it on the list and you can contact the next person. When you send the cache to the next person, you should post here what item you took and what item you put in.
Note that since I am starting it, I will actually receive 40 weeks subtime without having sent anyone any. I will hold onto this "in escrow" for the final person. When we decide to retire this cache for whatever reason down the road, I will send that 40 weeks to the last person when they send the cache back to me in the end. Just so people know I'm not stealing subtime here.
If you are unwilling to ship the cache out of your own country, you must indicate so when you sign up! If you do that, I may then need to bump you down the list to make things work. Please keep in mind that you may need to ship overseas if you do not specifically state that you will not (although, I think this will be rare).
I will start the cache off as soon as we have a few people signed up and I have time to put the initial items together (as cache starter, I will put 4-6 items in so that there is always a selection as people swap their single items as it is traded).

Done. I'll start working on the cache this week. I'm hoping to find some container that is light that we can use on an ongoing basis.

Hopefully, it wouldn't be a big problem. No one so far as indicated that they will not ship out of the country, so they should be willing to ship there. And, the value shouldn't really be high -- so duty shouldn't be significant.
So -- feel free to sign up if you'd like!

We could have some more rules as we go if we think of issues to be handled -- like a maximum total weight, for example. I'll see what it weighs in at when I get it ready and then we can discuss.
For real geocaches, for example, no food items are allowed (attracts animals). I don't think we need that though -- if someone sends food -- I'd eat it.

No problem. I haven't had time to start it yet -- probably will this weekend -- so you've got a while before you'll have to put up the weeks!

Sounds cool, but I have been very busy lately, so I can't commit to joining this.
Just an idea - It might be cool to add a piece of paper where people can write where they are located, so when you get the cache you can see everywhere that it has traveled.

Indeed -- I plan to have a "log book" in there to sign -- just like a real Geocache would.

Ok -- I'm shipping the cache out today (didn't make it to the PO yesterday). Here is what I have pre-stocked the cache with to start it off:
- Anachronox (PC)
- FIFA Soccer 2003 (GBA, boxed)
- New Eddie Bauer 4-in-1 Pen (this thing is cool!)
- GoldenEye 007 (SNES)
- Skillz Extreme Stand (PS2)
- Instant Power 2-in-1 PDA Charger (works in other similar powered devices too)
- Rally Championship (PC)
- Body Glove MP3 Arm Band
- Onimusha Warlords (PS2)
- NextGenVideos.com's The Future of Videogames (2001 Edition)
Just before shipping the cache to the next person, you should post here what you took from the cache and what you added. This is similar to how real geocache logging works at geocaching.com. Just FYI...

Hope so! When you get it, post here -- so that I can check you off. Then you contact the next guy when you are ready to ship (you can hold onto it for a while if you need to, of course).

Will do. Likely I'll just hold onto it long enough to play each game once to see if there is not more that I may be interested in. Have a few of those already, but I think I'm most interested in seeing the bauer pen and the videogame book right now. No clue as yet to what I will throw in but I have a large variety around so it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, just so people are aware... The box weighs about 4 pounds right now. It cost me $5.30 to send it Priority to Toad -- although, we're both in Michigan, so it would be more for further away. But, less for slower -- I went Priority because then I could do it all online.

Should we have some sort of time limit that you have to send it by? That way a person doesn't hold onto it for like a month before sending it out. I'm thinking a week or two would be plenty of time.
