I wanted to see what some other SNK people thought about this. Are many of the Xbox and PS2 ports of original MVS/AES games of inferior quality? I have a few of the older KoF, SS, etc. AES games and it seems like the Xbox/PS2 games I have just look and play worse then those on the older SNK hardware.
Just curious if anyone has compared them and has input.

i need to think about it a bit. i dont really have any games on the older snk hardware that i also have on a newer gen system. The only ones that really come to mind right away are metal slug 3 which i have for aes and also for the wii |

Usually I don't like the ports as well. Not really because they are any better or worse in terms of pure gameplay, but because I'm not a big fan of any of the controllers. I really liked just about every SNK port on Dreamcast, but other than that I like to stick on SNK consoles. Although Metal Slug 3 wasn't bad on Xbox, and it's also decent on Live Arcade. I was REALLY disappointed in the Xbox port of Samurai Shodown 5 though.

Alright, finally an opinion What made SSV so disappointing for you on Xbox?

Hmm.. it's hard to really say exactly... it just didn't have the right "feel" to it. One tangible thing I can say, however, is the game was pretty choppy and seemed very slow in the Xbox version. I know SS5 is slower than the other ones, but I played the Neo version at my buddy's house who still owns one down here (because his parents pay for his college... bastard! lol) and it was definitely slower running on the Xbox.
Plus, the controller doesn't lend itself particularly well to the game. Even using an Xbox arcade stick, I thought it was tough to pull off some of the more intricate moves.

yeah id say not having a real snk stick makes a huge difference.
i just remembered that before i bought kof 99 for the aes i bought it for the psx and the load times were very annoying |

Damn, I thought this was a new game. Neo Geo vs. Xbox and PS2. The next great crossover game from SNK!

Ha ha. At the rate they're going I wouldn't be surprised to see a NG vs Xbox vs PS2. If it had dedicated system characters that would actually be pretty cool.... Seems like that's what SSBB is on Wii with Sonic and Snake and everyone else. Ah well, if we get desperate we can always boot up Mugen I guess.
