Hello. I am soon getting my 1st Neo Geo Arcade cab. It is a 2 slot gold cabinet. It comes with Metal Slug 2 and World Heroes carts. It cost me $419. I pick it up this coming Sunday. I can not wait!
Here are pics of the cab:
What do you guys think? The inside needs some cleaning but aside from that it looks nice. On the bottom of the cab is a page from the original owners manual that got wet and stuck to it. Everything seems to work fine, as the pics show. I am very excited about this.
Does anyone else here own or plan to own a neo cab?
We should start a section for cab pics |

Awesome As you mentioned the insides need some cleaning but otherwise looks good enough I'd love to have a cab but I'm limited for space and travel around too much. So, at the moment I'm working on a CMVS to get the arcade fix. Not as cool as a cab but at least it fits in my house.

Yeah, I am limited on space as well BUT, for a NEO cab.....I WILL make space...heh. Neo cabs are hard to come by...and in good working condition woody cabs are getting harder...especially as everyone is starting to make MAME cabs by ruining old great woody classics.
I will never let this cab go, I can promise you that.
Hope someday you can find a cab that you can fit somewhere . A CMVS is a fun option, but I cant live with just CMVS for neo geo. There is no experience like you get from playing on an official neo cab.
Anyway, thanks for the kind words and I will try and make a BEFORE/AFTER thing once I get the cab and can start working on it. |

Ohhh a before and after restoration chart would be great. It all depends on how much work you want to put into it, you know? Like that bottom back panel looks pretty rough, but then again it's the back and no one but you will see it.
How's the monitor?

Yeah, I may leave the back the way it is. As for the monitor, I have yet to see this cab in person( I am not taking a 6-7 hour total trip just to look at it), so sunday when I go to pick it up will be my 1st time seeing it in person. I will let you know how the monitor is once I get it here and set it up. |

It's my understanding that the monitors often need some caps replaced, etc. I'm hoping to get into cab repair and customization here in the somewhat near future so keep me posted as to any work you do on it. I have a lot of information that could be of use to you as well depending on what you need to do.

I have no experience myself with any cab restoration, or maintaining one. This is my 1st cab ever owned. So this will be a new experience for me as well. But the best way to learn something IMO is to just do it, so that is what I plan on doing. Learning by experience. I personally can not wait to get this thing here and set up to use. My dream is about to become a reality tomorrow .
I will post some more pics tomorrow after I get it and get it set up. It'll be a blast no doubt. |

Just a word of warning, from what I understand there is a somewhat decent chance of getting a serious electric shock if you're not careful on the insides of a cab so do some research before you do too much poking I don't know which particular area is to blame but I've heard many people say that.

i think ive heard this too. my cousin and his best friend are both waaaay into cab restoration and have like 5 cabs between the 2 of them and i think theres something in there that will hold an electric shock/charge/current/whatever even if its been unplugged
oldschoolgamer if you die from electric shock can i have your cab, pwetty pweese????? |

Haha, I know what the thing is. It is a part behind the monitor that holds a 15000 volt charge. It is like a suction cup area. It can hold a charge for about a week+ after being unplugged. I am WELL aware of all that.
I have the cab now here and I must say I love it. It does need some work. I am going to replace the Control Panel which consists of all 11 buttons and 2 joysticks. Button B doesn't work and the joysticks are kinda meh. So as I gotta replace those things..I figure i'll just replace everything at once so its all nice and new. |

Ah damn I wish I was there to check it out/work on it with you. I really want to restore/work on a cab soon. I'm hoping I can work with the local arcade owner on some of theirs. That way I can get my feet wet without spending any of my own money
I'm sure you know, but www.neo-geo.com has TONS of info, links, and people who are pros on this so if you have questions I'd check there for resources. Also, www.hardmvs.com is another great mvs site for reference.

I can understand wanting to get your feet wet without worrying about spending much or any of your own $$ to do it. But I feel learning on your own thing is best as you can enjoy the rewards from your hard work. I need to get as I stated earlier...the joysticks and buttons w/ the micro switches. Not right away but later I will be buying some stuff to place around the edges of the cab to smooth out the fraying wood.
As far as sites with info, I am already aware of both sites. I have been a member of www.neo-geo.com for...3 years now. Haha its been that long already..wow. I am also going to order my parts through www.lizardlick.com I found they are the best to get Happ parts from cheaply. I love www.hardmvs.com. It sucks that they dont have the manual for the goldie cab up..but its alright. I can live w/o it :). So I am doing well it seems.
I played Baseball Stars 2 today on the cab..gosh darn is it nice. it doesn't get much better than that. I have a looong list of must have MVS games that I have not picked up yet. It will take me a good long while to get all of the carts I want...but thats half the fun :)
I am enjoying my cab as much as possible for now. I cant wait to put the new controls in so all my games can be played flawlessly. This is a very exciting hobby and I hope you can get a cab as well fungi. Owning a cab is a feeling like no other. |
