Since the other one seems as though it's never going to end and people are dropping out left and right, I was thinking of starting a new one up with hard dates to start. The dates would be set by the players themselves and agreed on by all 6 of the players (3 on each team), but if the date is missed, the team with the player missing gets a DQ/loss and is eliminated.
Here's the main idea I was thinking:
Prize = each member of the winning team get a 1600 point card or $20 giftcard to whichever store they choose (as long as I'm able to buy it on Long Island, i.e. no Fred Meyer or whatever the hell)
Entry Fee (no, I can't just give out free stuff) = $2 each/$6.00 per team total. I won't make a dime from this, it would come out to 10 teams + $6 each team = $60 total = 3 $20 giftcards/1600 points. All codes would be emailed, I'll take care of the tax on the cards.
Would you be willing to pay the $2/$6 per team or should this be a subtime only deal? We'd need minimum 30 people to sign up, and it would be 3 people per team, with the other two members being whomever you choose (does NOT have to be only GTZers...though please don't be a dick and scout CoD all night for random players). We could also do a random team draft where no one would get to choose and I'd simply use random.org, though I'm sure most people would rather play with friends.
Give me your feedback on the idea.

I agree with it all except for the random draft. A tournament is done for a team that plays together to show off their skills, you know? So vote we do pick our own teams. |

Normally I'd agree, but when there are prizes involved I think Random Draft is best.

Or make the fee in a per team rate. The team pays, the team win/lose, and you get to form your own team. But even then, even on a player basis, if I pay an entry fee, I'd be pretty pissed if I was group with a crappy shooter. When someone takes the initiative to recruit for the team, I have to option to place my bet on that team.

I wouldn't blame you, looks like we'll have it as a 'choose your own team' dealio, BUT like in the other one, there's going to be new guys or simply people that can't find teams that will have to be grouped together. Unfortunately I'd have to charge for all, otherwise it'll all be coming out of my pocket. So word to the wise, have friends.

although i almost would think it should be, since people technically could play with really good people, add them to their friends list this weekend or something and do that. even if they dont do that, im sure people on other teams would say "you just found a really good person online" so that might cause some controversy.

Well, we'll see how out of hand it gets. All I can really do is do it by the honor system, but really...do you think there's too many GTZers that motivated to cheat for a $20 card? Probably not I just brought the idea up because like the last tourney, I wanted to bring a friend of mine in, but couldn't, figured there might be others. If you guys think it's a bad idea, we can change the rules on that as well.
For the people that are agreeing/like it thusfar, is the price/fee cool with you as well?

Most people on this site are employed. It's not hard to play one night out of the week. Probably won't even have to play even that, probably one night every 2 weeks.

you would have to do a draft for this if not your gonna get stacked teams and it no longer gonna be fun for most people on here |

Has nothing to do with stacked, it's all about skill. I've played with most people on here and can honestly say that no one blew my mind. There's quite a few excellent players, but no one that's going to dominate the competition. Most people here are against the 'draft' mainly because they have their set groups they play with

yeah because having a map with your location at all times and using pussy crap like juggernaut and stopping power are WAY more realistic

I was kind of hoping for a 1-on-1 tournament. In my experiences I find it too hard to play team matches because not everyone wants to show up and/or play. Example: the current CoD4 tournament. |

I believe the downfall of the tourneys on this site aren't setting "hard" dates, it's that they're team based games. I belong to another website that has "MVP" nights on Tuesday and Friday nights at 9:00 pm EST. They pick a different game each week and it's every man for himself (kill-wise). They play for an hour and choose different types of multiplayer games (both every man for himself and team play, but it's all based on # of kills). Maybe this is the type of tourneys this site should try as getting a team together seems next to impossible. This way, you set the games, set the nights, and whoever shows up, shows up. Now that site has point prizes that you can exchange for games. I don't know how you would come up with prizes on this site if it's whoever comes, plays, but it's something to think about . . .
If anyone's interested in doing something like this, with no prizes involved, just set games, and set nights to play, let me know (I could start a new thread).
One other thing, is I think tourneys on this site should only be open to people on this site; but that's just my opinion. Maybe you should also make that they have to have at least one completed trades so some people just don't bring in ringers
P.S. On my 1st MVP night on this other site, I got LVP on Halo 3 (Least Valuable Player) , but it was still a lot of fun. The most fun I've had on XBox live is playing with guys on my 2 game trading sites. |

That actually sounds like a good idea. You can set one date and do that, and whoever doesn't show up, is disqualified, and we play with who did show up. I'm up for that, with no prizes. I just want to have a fun tournament, I don't need any prizes.
Also, I agree with not letting people outside of the site play in the tournament. |

Well, either way I'm having a friend of mine join He's not phenomenal or anything, but he and I are a 'team'.
The 1 on 1 is a decent idea, but I have a feeling there won't be more than 10 people that would sign up. It seems most people don't like 1 on 1 here.
The thing about people not 'showing up' is the main reason why I say that people can choose whomever they want to be on their team, along with outside friends. This way, if a member or a friend of the persons doesn't show, they're DQ'd. It's for prizes so I'm sure it'll give people a little more motivation to show up along with the initial fee they have to pay. And worst case scenario, if people start to no show, whomever has the more responsible team, wins
