I have 3 Microsoft controllers and I'm usually close enough to my TV I play with the play and charge kit regardless. Lately 2 hold half a charge and 1 does not charge at all. Even digging up my quick charge kit, again the MS brand, I got when buying one of my battery packs and I still get half a charge or less.
Is this typical? I would imagine so since batteries do have a limit on how many times they can be charged and I have had these for a while now 2 years or so. Sucks because I just gave away my battery packs in the Freebie forum lol. Was thinking the battery packs and NiMH rechargeable batteries may be better than the nickel hydride batteries in the 360 rechargeable pack.
Thoughts?

I have 4 and they are about 3 years old now. They don't keep charges at all like they used to. One will last anywhere from 4 hours to not even an hour. If I use the headset they drain even faster. When I pop them in the charger the light doesn't even stay red long it goes green. They are still charging and keeping a charge just not anywhere near optimal. It's time to buy new ones.. but I keep holding it off.. |

That would be awesome. :D
I'm awesome NiMH = Nickel Metal Hydride but I do know the Snayo Eneloop NiMH batteries are becoming quite popular...http://www.amazon.com/SANYO-eneloop-Pre-Charged-Re...
Been looking for info on the NiMH batteries MS uses in the rechargeable battery packs. Their life cycle/expectancy. Can't get much technical details since the FCC filing is buried somewhere. NiMH batteries should last 500-1000 charges and depending on the capacity of the 360 controller packs should last quite a few years because they don't have to be conditioned typically. NiMH batteries don't have the same issue as nickel cadmium batteries where you have to drain them entirely before charging them again.
It's been a long while so I guess it is time to change them unfortunately. I'm stingy as hell so I probably will just use the controllers w/ the Play and Charge kit until the batteries go on sale somewhere lol.

I cant get mine to charge. My 360 will run all day and when I go to play they are still charging. Then they last about 2 hours tops. |

thats kind of what mine seems to do. I can leave it in on the play and charge, and the light will go from red to green very quickly. but when i pull the wire it does instantly almost sometimes.
unless it isnt recharging as you play, and just sustaining it.... ?? perhaps the tem play "and" charge is deceptive?

has anyone tried plugging it into a computer and charging it like you can ps3 controllers? im wondering if i just havent let it sit on the charger long enough but i usually dont run my xbox that long at a time these days maybe its just not getting a lot of charge in the time i have it hooked up.
anyone know if there is any truth to my theory that it isnt actually charging as you play that it only charges if you arent playing and it just maintains usuability while playing with it plugged in? I suspect this is not the case and it should be charging while playing but im looking for answers on why this brand new thing isnt working like it seems it should. my brother has some and his work for a long time, but he bought one of those energizer controller docks (those things are sweet by the way)

It definitely charges as you play. It's about a 2 hour charge if you are playing a game or not, if the console is off/sleep or not [turn your console off with it plugged in and it will continue to charge until full then it will cut the system off].
I've tried plugging it into a computer back in the day but it won't recognize the adapter. Not sure it if charged or not.
I think using a better higher capacity NiMH battery like the Sanyo ones are a better route. I'm going to try that for the time being and they are $2 ea to replace rather than $6+ or whatever the MS battery packs are going for these days.

Where would you get those
My battery packs are allergic to charging, so much so that they go off immediately after unplugging. So basically I just unplug the battery and play wired |

I got 2 black ones. Funny I gave away a black and a white and I get two back :D
I have the Sanyo rechargeable NiMH batteries in there now and they are a much higher capacity than the MS brand rechargeable pack.
These are the ones I got: http://www.amazon.com/SANYO-eneloop-Pre-Charged-Re...
If you have a Costco around they sell them cheaper then Amazon.

Totally the battery packs for me. Bought some new ones and they work like a charm. Forgot how long they actually last. As over the years my original batteries didn't keep the charges as long. I guess since it was gradual I didn't notice it as much. But going to brand new ones that last days is such a difference. |

I actually have one battery pak that no longer charges. I think what happened was the damn kids kept plugging it in when I told them not to and that caused the battery pak to have a meltdown or something. |

I've been getting a weird problem lately where I'll be playing a game and the green home button lights will spin on the controller. Then usually a half hour or so later the controller just looses the connection and powers off. I get the reconnect your controller error message on screen. Removing the battery pack and inserting it, then powering on fixes it. This tends to happen when the battery is 3/4ths charged. All official wireless controller and batteries + official charger.
Tends to happen once a week, sparratically. |

I never had consistent use with the 360 batteries. They definitely are not made to last long. After 6 months or so would always tell me I had a low battery then when I plugged it in, it would be "fully charged" in only like 5-10 minutes. Then that "full charge" would last me about 2 hours not plugged in. So it was kinds of crazy and I would just plug in while checking out the Marketplace for 5 minutes then unplug and game.

I have never trusted the charge meter and since then have never had a problem with the battery packs. It will charge to full in just a few mins but only lasts 30 after that. Leave it charging for hours and it will last a week.

I've found it is not the battery packs but the controllers themselves and the play and charge kits failing before the battery pack does.
I pulled out an old quick charge kit and found 1 out of 3 of my battery packs were bad while 2 of my controllers had issues. Funny the newest of the 3 [my halo ed. from the console bundle] was the bunk one and the oldest that I got originally from launch still worked like a charm.
