It's an old Japanese battle flag. I want to see if there are any names on it and (hopefully) see if any of these people are still alive... Any information would be highly appreciated.

I'm not sure you'd find anyone in here. I will email it to someone that might be able to help though.

Yeah. My great-uncle was in the Navy, and he picked up a whole bunch of stuff left over from the decommissioning of the Japanese army in Korea. What he kept was sitting in his widow's attic for about 30 years.

Ok, I just got the email back:
Hey man,
Yeah, the wife can read almost all of it. It's mostly names, but no names of people that she recognizes. The big kanji on the right mean "pray for fortune in the war." Going clockwise from there, it's mostly names until you come to about the 8 o'clock position. It starts with a single line (ichi) and means "One death for the country." That's a rough translation, but it relates to one's obligations to country. The line just above that one means "Army of the Emperor...", but the bottom part is illegible. Continuing clockwise, it's names until the very top. The small writing that starts with the kanji for "tiger" 虎 says "When tigers die, they leave their skin. When people die, they leave their names." I guess that's appropriate.
If you'd like any specifics on names or any other part, just let me know.

Wow, that's pretty interesting stuff. Nice poem... but kind of melancholy when you think about it in context.
I would appreciate if you could get the names (or places?). I don't think anybody is still alive, but who knows? Thanks a million for helping me out on this.
