Let's talk about beer:

Carling Canada Black Label
image
Sort of bitter, cheap swill ($10 a case!). This is a man's beer. it tastes better in a can. Probably better in Canada, because in the US it's brewed by G. Heileman, maker of crapty beers.

Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat
image
What the hell is this stuff? It sucks. It pisses me off that people actually like this beer because it tastes like fruity pebbles and the aftertaste of Krispy Kreme donuts. Look how fruity this beer makes that guy look. This beer has no flavor, no hops, nothing.

Beamish Stout
image
This is a lot like Guinness draught except it tones down the bitterness at the end. Smooth all the way through, although Guinness holds up better with food.

I absolutely hate beer. It tastes terrible. On the rare occasion I'm getting wasted, I just go with liquor, because even though it tastes equally bad, you have to drink much less to get drunk. I usually go with a nice bottle of Wild Turkey. It makes me feel manly because it burns my throat as I drink it, LoL.

If you don't like beer, you obviously haven't had Pabst Blue Ribbon. You don't get to stamp a blue ribbon on your can be being some sort of floozy.

Pabst is pretty good. I don't know where they came up with that Blue Ribbon thing though.

If you want a beer that out medals the Blue Ribbon itself, you want the manly

Golden Anniversary Beer

Oh yes, it's gold. Plus it's only like $8 a case.

Pabst won a Blue Ribbon, hence the name. It tastes like crap and is a rip-off @ 4.74%.

That crap is 4.4%, but at that price how could anyone go wrong.

The "Blue Ribbon" name isn't a reference to anything it won, the old bottles used to come with a blue ribbon tied on them.

They do claim to have won a couple of medals though. One is the 1800's that seems debatable as there don't seem to be records of any medal given out that year (this is the medal reference printed on the current cans), and another medal from 2006 American Beer Festival that is printed on the boxes of 12 and 30 packs (I'm guessing this is likely legitimate.

You don't drink PBR for the high alcohol content, there's Natty Ice if you want a cheap high % beer. You drink PBR because it's an American Classic. Yessir, I think I'll crack one open now!

PBR is also in some big movies:

Gran Torino (Clint Eastwood is drinking everybody's favorite)
Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inpector - quoted as "now that's my kind of beer"
Friday the 13th 2009 (haven't seen this yet but I'm told the beginning of the movie features the PBR)

Golden Anniversary? That looks like something you'd wipe your ass with. Pabst has at least 1 gold medal anyway, probably more. And it doesn't need that crapty lead-based gold paint on the can to prove it.

I also recently tried to order a bottle of PBR at the local Buffalo Wild Wings, although when I went up to the bar, the lady just looked my me kinda odd and said they don't have that. dog! That crap's in the fudgein' menu. Must just be a general print menu for the nation, they also had Molsen listed so I tried to get that. None of that either. I was kind of surprised since we don't get the Canadian beers down here usually. So much for that.

What?! Golden Anniversary is the beer of choice for cheap beer drinkers all over the northeast!

Pabst Blue Ribbon won its defining award at some carnival where most of the people were either too drunk or too ignorant to know what good beer was. I bet most of the drinkers are douchebags like this or corpulent fatasses I always see at the local trash bar. No wonder Buffalo Wild Wings is embarrassed to carry PBR, it's probably trying to pass its annual cleanliness inspection like any respectable establishment would. Now, take another look at that Golden Anniversary can. It doesn't need to bullcrap drinkers with a fake Blue Ribbon or tall tales about "33 brews in 1". No sir. It is a honest beer drank by honest red-blooded Americans and distinguished old timers who would probably kick your ass.

PBR is for pop-culture homos, here's a real beer at a great bargain:

image

Yeah, you read it right, thats 8.2% of godliness @ around $1 per 24, $1.75 per 40oz.

Oh, and it's made by Miller, just like PBR(aka the dreggs of Bull Ice).

I've never heard PBR as pop culture, maybe it is, but not around here I suppose. I'm the only person I personally know that drinks this crap. My brother in law said he's only known 1 guy to drink it besides me, some white guy that used to hang around the farm where they live. Maybe it's a white beer and there's mostly hispanics around here making it not big.

I didn't know who the hell actually made PBR. Miller, I should see what else is under their umbrella just for craps and giggles.

Jeffro, are you sure about Miller? I can't find any info on it. On Wikipedia it says Pabst is the brewing company, they make quite a few beers including PBR, Old Milwaukee, and Schlitz. Miller does Milwaukee's Best (which I always assumed was the same company as OM just because of the name..lol, guess you can't count on that).

Maybe that's what that 8.2% did to you, made you delusional.

I am also trying to hunt down a PBR 40 somewhere in town. So far, I've been unsuccessful.

Yeah, I'm wrong. Coulda swore Miller bought them out awhile ago.

Its weird, Pabst 40s seem to come and go in all the towns around here. It's like seasonal, or something. Very strange.

I know you can get it at some bars, I don't know if every bar has it though. I haven't been to a regular bar in a while, just some local breweries lately. Although it'd be kind of funny trying to order the American Classic when they have their own crap on tap, I have yet to make an ass of myself like that.

Pabst is brewed by G. Heileman, who is based out of Illinois. Their marketing strategy seems to be buying up regional breweries and defunct brands - they bought was was left of Stroh's (another cheapie) a few years ago and bought out Schmidt's of Philadelphia about the same time, eliminated it, and replaced it with their own beer called Schmidt. I think Blatz, Schmidt and PBR are their original brews. They're all over the east coast anyway (especially down south).

It really all depends on what you feel like drinking that night. Sometimes, I would go with Sunset Wheat. Other times, Hacker Pschorr. Or Guinness. Or Old Style. Or Mountain Creek ($7.89 a 24-pack). Most of my friends stick to Miller Lite, so that's the go-to beer.

I dunno, I have a hard time getting around these Leinenkugel beers because they like to put flavoring in them. I'll check out their Dark though.

Here's some stuff that I had over the past week:

Zywiec (that's pronounced ZEV-itch) Porter - Polish import

image

This beer is really, really good. It's hard to find outside New Jersey, the only reason I found it was the beer store owner was Polish and had a display up. Comes in big pint bottles and the alcohol is 9.5% ABV. It's pretty heavy, so it takes a while to get a pint down.

Blue Moon White

image

I've had a case of this stuff around all winter. I liked it at first, but I got tired of it. It's sweet and there isn't much to it, and it doesn't cook well with anything. My dog will drink it, though.

Very delicious with no alcohol taste whatsoever.

Had one of these the other day:

7.2% and pretty great with little to no "import taste."

Lol, when I was a kid, I remember meeting this old guy whose motto was "Water rusts your stomach and milk is for babies". Needless to say, all he drank was soda and beer. That baby picture on the refrigerator reminds me of him.

I forgot all about Yuengling... It's way better than most mass market stuff. When you're near the brewery (in Pottsville, Pennsylvania), check out the original brewery and get a 40oz bottle of Yuengling Premium ... it's a little smoother than the standard stuff. Their "Lord Chesterfield" ale is pretty good, and their Black and Tan rocks.

Sierra Nevada, gotta try that. I've had their Celebrator, that's really good too.

German beers are great, IMO. I like Franzsikaner, especially on tap. Cool pictures!

Sierra Nevada's Summerfest lager is one of my favorite beers during the summer, can't wait 'til it comes back into season.

I went to the Rogue Brewery this weekend for my brother's birthday and had some great beers including something called Oak Barreled Issaquah Quad Frog. Which was surprisingly smooth for it's insane 13.5% ABV.

Also tried their whiskey distilled from their Dead Guy ale. Very good whiskey indeed.

Belhaven Scottish Ale

I know it isn't Irish, but this is a really smooth and tasty ale, and it's not too heavy. Had on tap. Hard to explain because it's so balanced... very good though.

Jeffro: I haven't had a bad Rogue beer yet... their chocolate stout is great . Their Soba Ales are good too, although they discontinued them a year ago. I didn't know that they made whisky too.

Their Chipotle Ale is somewhat iffy, but still good especially if you like peppery stuff. Other than that I havnt had a bad Rogue beer either. I actually had a Choco Stout while I was there, an amazing beer.

They just released their whiskey last fall(?), it's great tasting stuff, but not worth the $35 it's retailing for.

ot: last night I helped polish off a couple of Michelob craft brew variety 12 packs, they were all pretty decent beers, but I liked the Irish Red and Pale Ale the most. Also had a couple cans of Guiness.

I'm finishing off the last of the Harp lying around from St. Patricks. I like it, it doesn't really taste like a German lager, but it has a nice bready flavor. It isn't trying to be something exquisite, but I like it more than a lot of microbrews.

"Bucks County" Pennbrook Lager (Riverhorse Brewery)

image

I don't know what is up with this beer, being made in New Jersey. I guess they want it to be compared to Yuengling or something. Quite bland, the taste only really comes around at the end of a sip , and it's really, really light. It's barely average... weird, considering who it's coming from. Although, it's way better than Yuengling Light, though, which is practically a "3.2" beer.
