I've just received NWN: Diamond Edition in a trade. So I'm just getting around to playing. I've had it before, but never made it more than an hour or so into the game. I kept getting my ass kicked... maybe just my characters. I'm playing a Barbarian this time and it seems to be going pretty well.
Any good tips for a noob?

I'd recommend getting a henchman as soon as you can.
Tomi is in the temple and is a good choice for areas with traps. You really want to hire each (or a few anyway) of the henchmen
and talk to them now and then. Each has a different story/quest of their own and each one that you help finish their quest
they give you some pretty nifty special items. So, switch them often and make sure to talk to them each time you level up.
I'd probably start with the prison district, but you'll probably want to make sure you're up a couple levels before the final throwdown in that area.
If you want more specific tips about that battle, let me know....don't wanna spoil anything.

I took the cleric with me into the prison. I'm on the 2nd level of the prison now. I took a pre-built character, and I think she started at like level 11 or 12. I didn't realize it until earlier today. I still haven't leveled up yet, and I'm just killing gangs of thugs in no time.  Wimpy, but that's okay with me.

Whatever works. Dying repeatedly playing a noob character isn't fun 99% of the time anyway.
And if my thought-dreams could be seen
They'd probably put my head in a guillotine

It's true. I never got past the prison the first time I played. I got too frustrated with always getting deaded.

I'm working through Beggar's Nest right now. Just cleared the warehouse.
I'm sure that part of it is starting with an ass-kicking character, but I'm really enjoying it now. I'm giving it a couple hours a day.

I'd love to get it, but I can barely run this well on my laptop. I think my graphics card was overheating when I had everything on Best settings. I took everything down to low and propped the laptop up some so it had better ventilation. Really not a HUGE difference in graphic quality, mostly just effects (though I haven't been out of town yet). I might try cranking them up a bit tonight.

In the second expansion pack, there's a level with alot of heat/lava and it taxed the hell out of my old Geforce FX5200.
That's the only time a game has literally turned unplayable due to framerate on me. lol
Not that the FX5200 is a powerhouse of a card, but it kinda surprised me since I could play Half-life 2 with decent settings on the 5200.
