FORUM RULES
- You must have a star to belong to a group or to request account swaps (click here for details). This forum isn't meant for random folks who find it on Google; it is meant for established traders on GameTZ. Failure to comply with just this one simple rule will result in an instant filtering from the forum without warning (well, consider this the warning). This rule not only greatly reduces the risk of account hijacking, but it also weeds out those who can't even be arsed to read this one thread before committing to long-term share groups.
- BE PROMPT. No one likes waiting around for that one member of a group to send payment.
- Send/Request correct payments! Know if you’re charged tax for PSN and add it in if so. Use PPCalc to calculate PayPal fees. Do not create a group without stating the exact amount that members should send you.
- Standard form for thread titles "Game Name(s) - Price - # Group Members"
- Group creators are HIGHLY encouraged to update their threads with the games of everyone in that group so everyone knows what games the group already has
- Do not hijack PSN accounts! Only the group creator has the right to change log in info, after notifying the group. |
What to do as the buyer for a group
- Collect payments from users
- Create a new profile (Unless you’re re-using an old one)
- Sign up for PSN using a free email account
- Purchase and download the game(s)
- Delete your billing information from the PSN account
- Distribute the email address and password to the 4 other users in the group
- Do NOT ever delete the profile or the game(s) linked with it will not work
- Keep a log of the group’s users and info for future use |
What to do as a group member
- Create a new profile (Unless you’re re-using an old one)
- Sign up for PSN and click “Use an existing account”
- Use the log-in info given to you by the group’s buyer
- Go to the PSN Store and select the small “downloads” button at the top
- Download the game(s). Only download the games you purchased, the others will not install
- Do NOT ever delete the profile or the game(s) linked with it will not work
- Keep a log of the group’s users and info for future use |
What are the benefits of game sharing?
The point of game sharing is that 5 people can split the cost of a PSN game 5 ways. This is because Sony’s DRM allows PSN games to be registered on up to 5 consoles.
What are the negatives of game sharing?
- Sharing game links it to your console. If you ever get rid of your console, you will not be able to download your games again. You can only redownload the games onto the same consoles they were registered to initially. If you replace the hard drive you will be able to download the games again.
Note: If you're switching to a different console it IS possible to deactivate games on one console.
Is there a limit to the number of profiles on a PS3 console?
YES. There is a 16 profile limit. Use your profiles carefully! Do not create a profile for one, cheap game.
List of unsharable games
- WarHawk (24-hour lock)
- Gran Turismo 5: Prolouge (24-hour lock)
- SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs: Confrontation (24-hour lock)
- Singstar Singstore (DRM locked to single console) |
The 24-hour lock games can only be played on a console if no other console has played it in the past 24 hours.
How do I delete billing information from my account?
XMB -> PSN -> Account Management -> Account Information -> (Enter Password) -> Delete Billing Information
Can more than 5 people use a profile?
No. Once 5 people have activated the account, no one else will be able to download from it. This means that user and PSN accounts cannot be reused unless all 5 people agree to download a new game. Users can opt to deactivate the PSN account from their system, thus opening up a slot for someone else to use. However, this will disable any games they have downloaded from the account.
I'm upgrading my hard drive soon. Is there anything I should know?
This topic might be of some assistance to you.
How can I help advertise the forum?
So glad you asked! Either make your own banner and post it in your signature (and make sure to link the picture to this forum!), or use one of the following. Also, if you make something especially good, please bring it to my attention so I can add it to this thread.
Remember: the more people who know about this forum, the better! (except for n00bs; they need to read this damn thread!)

I have a question about the multiplayer limit. Has this been tested on any games in particular?
I have a buddy that gameshared Burnout and he said they all played online at the same time. Is that a special circumstance with that game?

not sure about multiplayer. i think it's on a case by case basis (like warhawk) and very rare and that paragraph can be safely deleted. if we discover a game where it's definitely an issue, we can add it to the 'unsharable game list' with a note. i think you've already covered all known exceptions - they don't generally lock the smaller games and you've named the timelocked ones.
we're in the midst of testing Warhawk dlc.

2 questions.
1) Does Crash Commando online give problems with this method?
2) Might sound silly but Im asking just to make sure, it can be done with PSN cash cards right? (with the inconvenience of + taxes)

Thanks in advanced and sorry for all the questions

Hi,
If I wanted to be a group buyer, I should just create a new profile? What about the profile I use now, will I be able to use the PSN games for that acct too or would I have to be under the new profile?

Might be a little redundant but just to clarify. does this also mean that one cannot start a group until they have a star as well? |

I've consolidated a few stickies into this topic so the forum isn't as cluttered, and also in the hope that new users will read this thread.

I'm strongly considering just filtering anyone who comes here looking to join/create a group without a star, particularly brand new users. Is that unfair of me? I'm getting just a bit tired of saying "READ THE FAQ" to people when it's in fudging bold lettering, stickied on the main page.

lordkaosu

| | #23 posted August 1, 2009 at 3:23am (EST) |
I don't think that seems unfair. That's the price you pay for being at the top of a Google "gameshare" search.

speaking of being at the top of a Google gameshare search... do you think it may be a good idea to alter the title of the thread so it doesn't attract unnecessary attention from Sony (just in case) |
Iced

| | #25 posted August 3, 2009 at 3:18pm (EST) |
Not really, no. It's bringing people to the forum (and more importantly, bill's site), and I don't think this is something Sony goes after. In fact, I've read several articles where Sony seems to support it for various reasons.

a couple things:
1) gamesharing is a huge win for sony. brilliant, and i can't believe they actually did it. they knew people would form groups and get games at 1/5 the price, but they also figured people would get a lot more games as a result. and they (we) do. i spend far more on psn games than i would otherwise. far more.
2) perhaps make a sticky at the top that simply has a subject line like "THIS FORUM IS FOR ESTABLISHED GTZ MEMBERS ONLY - STAR REQUIRED'
the body of that post should just have something like:
This gameshare forum is for established community members only. Join up with this site, start trading, and once you get your star feel free to join in this forum. Find out more about gamesharing here: -link to faq sticky-
or whatever.
EDIT - i just read your new intro. that works too. i was just figuring if people continue to do it, putting the restriction in all caps in a subject line might help. |

Hey guys, just want to know if someone has the answer for this.
The 5 PS3/person limit, is it enforced on each individual game or is it on the PSN account ??
situation:
5 people used the account 'A' to download some games
3 of said people want to buy MvsC2 the other 2 dont want it.
Is it possible to find 2 other people and share the MvsC2 game with them using the same account 'A'?
I hope I explained myself correctly. Thanks in advance.

yeah I did read that but then I also read somewhere else that what you deactivate are the games from the system not the PSN account. I guess I will have to check it out myself and get it over with.

kilter
| | #33 posted August 21, 2009 at 4:45pm (EST) |
the first post and the faq here are absolutely correct. whatever else you read is wrong. games are shared per account. there is no such thing as 'deactivating a game'.
|
Iced

| | #34 posted August 21, 2009 at 5:21pm (EST) |
^ What he said. Accounts get deactivated, thus deactivating all games associated with said account.

A question since I am about to switch from my old console to a slim.
Can I make a back up and transfer all the games from my old console? Or do I lose them all, since they have been downloaded 5 times already? |
Iced

| | #37 posted October 5, 2009 at 4:53pm (EST) |
You definitely won't lose your games, because at the very least you can deactivate all the accounts on your old console, then reactivate them on your slim. From there it would just be a matter of re downloading everything.
As far as backing up everything goes, honestly I'm not entirely sure, but it should work. Just make sure you back up everything before deactivating all the accounts.
 |
kilter
| | #38 posted October 5, 2009 at 11:44pm (EST) |
you should definitely research that. i'm almost positive that a backup is locked to the ps3 it was created for.
this doesn't mean you're screwed - just deactivate the account(s) on your old console. you can then recreate the account on your new console. then redownload. |
brian9824
| | #39 posted October 7, 2009 at 10:25am (EST) |
I just want to verify something. So basically you are creating a seperate PSN account JUST for the games. So if you belong to 2 different Gameshare groups you would have 2 different PSN accounts you log into each which contain the games for that group?
Also any openings for any groups? Need some PSN games now.
 |
Iced

| | #40 posted October 7, 2009 at 10:31am (EST) |
Right, but you don't need to be logged into each game's corresponding account in order to play it. Once it's been downloaded onto your PS3 (the big thing is that it gets "activated"), you can play it no matter what account you're currently logged in on.
However, if you decide to remove an account from your PS3, all games associated with that account become deactivated and will no longer work.
