I'm thinking about giving my 360 a rest for a couple of weeks as I have a bunch of PS3 games I have yet to play. Which one would you recommend I dive into? I typically like to play one game and finish it before I move onto the next. How would you rate these games?
Devil May Cry 4
Folklore
Genji
Heavenly Sword
Lair
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Ratchet and Clank
Resistance
Unreal Tournament
And before you ask, if a game is on both systems (sans DMC4) I prefer to play it on 360 (GTA IV, R6V2, COD4, Orange Box, etc).

Ratchet and Clank is a lot of fun, but also very similar to previous Ratchet and Clank games (ps2)... it would be my top pick.
Heavenly Sword is enjoyable and just really pretty, also fairly short so it's easy to pick-off over a weekend or less than a week anyway.
Resistance was decent, definitely worth a play through.
I haven't played the others and mostly I'm not interested in them. There are downloadable demos for some of them (Folklore, DMC4, Ninja Gaiden Sigma) available over PSN. You should try them if you haven't. I wasn't impressed. There's a Ratchet and Clank demo, but I thought it really failed to capture the fun of the game.
Drake's Uncharted is pretty good too.
I liked Conan (which is probably on 360, I'm not sure), but the end boss battle sucked and was too hard for me.
A lot of this is about your personal taste... we may have very different preferences. So, my advice may not be helpful at all. |

Heavenly Sword should be your first.
Follow it up with Resistance (unless you're playing a lot of FPS games on 360 already), then I'd say roll with Ratchet and Clank.

I loved Ratchet & Clank (haven't played the others before though), and really liked Resistance. Haven't played the others unfortunately except for some demos. |

I’ve played the games below and suggest them in the order they appear.

Insomniac has done some really great work on the PS3. Heavenly Sword is great, and really, really fun. I’m hoping to get another copy of it now that I have an hdtv.
The puzzles are lame, but that’s not why you’re playing, anyway. It was hyped as “Goddess of War” but the two are stylistically different enough that they don’t feel too similar to each other.
UT3 is good, too but you might want to wait for the 360 version.

I'd say Heavenly Sword hands down. I'm kinda disappointed that I ever traded it away. The end boss battle was a pain. It is short though, as stated above. If you have 3 or 4 days of hardcore game time, you should finish it. I didn't care for Lair at all. I hear good things about R&C games but I'm not a fan of platformers. Though, I am the opposite and prefer to play multiconsoled games on my PS3 instead of my 360. |

If you're looking for a good list of PS3 games, sorted by highest-rated across several review sites, this is pretty good:

3 or 4 days? You really only need 1 or 2 days. It's an 8 hour game tops (unless you're a pansy and die a lot)

Heavenly Sword. The only game to implement the sixaxis controls in an excellent way, steering arrows with the controller into people's heads is something everyone should do at least once. |

and the voice acting, and the intensity of the storyline. And the amazing counter system.

I thought that was really well done; next to being able to switch weapons on the fly mid-combo, I thought the counter system was the best aspect of fighting. I especially liked shaking the controller after getting hit to recover and attack. I need to get this game back.
I liked guiding the arrow with the sixaxis, too, but I could never get the hang of it.
Bill, knowing what you know about the R&C demo, and after playing R&C, are you any more curious about the games you've demoed? |

Heavenly Sword is the only game that should be allowed to use the sixasis.
It's the Heavely Sword-axis

ditto.
after r & c being my first choice, it'd be a tough second choice between heavenly sword and resistance.
As for the six-axis stuff, i can stand it. If i wanted to move while i was playing a game, i'd break my wii back out. I always turn the six axis stuff off, whenever possible, ie., gta 4

I recall you also were into DMC4 too. I think my tastes don't always match other people's. Both Folklore and DMC4 seem like crap to me (I've only played the demos, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be into the full verson of either). Yet, I know that a lot of people like them. I think Final Fantasy games are mostly crap too (I did enjoy playing the re-vamped III on my DS last year, but I tried playing X and it blew). Also, GTA is over-rated and not so great either (too hard, annoying mission where you have to start over if you screw up, hookers and drive-bys are gimmicky at this point).
You may all now flame me. |

yeahhhhh, our tastes are very different haha. No need to flame though, its just an opinion. I love the GTA and FF games. Folklore was so so and I can understand why people don't like the DMC series. I haven't played DMC 4 yet, just waiting on the price to fall a bit. Also, if you are a sports fan, MLB the Show is the best baseball game since Baseball stars (NES) lol. |

I seem to enjoy games in which there is some sort of unending repetition toward a level gain or stat increase etc and / or ones that I can play and put down fast when I need to. I really liked Folklore more than DMC4; it was alright.
I usually have at least a one month layoff at some point before I finish games; so I like it to be easy to jump into as well. |

I totally agree with you about Final Fantasy. We're far into the minority with our opinions there. GTA is overrated in some senses but I dig the hell out of it. They've really refined everything with the new one though. |

I hate Grand Theft Auto. Period.
The only reason I tried 4 is because with every reviewer on earth giving it a 10, I had to know if it was really that good or if it was just because it was the best of a bad game series.
It really is that good, and I'm still playing it. Couldn't believe how well put together this beast was.

They fixed alot of the issues people complained about. I have a buddy who hated the GTA games before 4 and after hearing all the hype he went ahead and grabbed it and he really likes it. He hated how choppy it used to be and how horrid the aiming was and those are two of the many things they've fixed. Read up on it and see if it sounds like the issues you've had with it have been fixed. I think they totally outdid theirselves with this one.
This is the definitive GTA. I'll never play the old ones again. Everything about this one is better. |

They've done alot with that and even the hand to hand combat has been refined. It now has a punch button, block button, and kick button when you lock on a target to do close quarters combat with.
Rockstar didn't just churn out another sequel and simply change the city this time. They put their asses to work to actually release a GTA that plays good and finally looks good. These characters don't look like they were yanked out of a Dire Straits video. The big draw of past games was freedom which drew me and millions of others in. With GTA4 there's still that draw in but once you're in you'll marvel at the gorgeous city and characters and be completely blown out of the water by the fact you're no longer controlling Frankenstein with Ray Liotta's voice. |

Yeah exactly. There isn't any big name voice actors here either. GTA actually put together a decent story, even if it is less complex. Some of the previous games the story would get so screwed up because they were trying to make it so complex and throw in so many twists. In 4 they've actually refined that as well. There are twists and lots of people but they do alot better throwing them into the mix. I'd forget what was going on sometimes in the other games and sometimes the missions didn't quite make sense. It was fun doing what I wanted to do and all so I kept coming back for every installment of GTA despite the fact that there were lots of flaws. GTA 4 is excellent. Obviously you can nitpick anything and find something wrong but this is really a fine tuned experience.
Bill, if your problem with past GTAs was that you found the idea great but then once you jumped into the game felt let down by it's sloppiness, by all means check out GTA4. You owe it to yourself for having endured those irritating moments in the previous games to now see how it should have been.
If you have no interest in the idea as a whole then you may wanna pass. It's still GTA with the whole criminal story and all. |

It has been a while... I think I played Vice City a few years ago on a ps2. I think mostly I was just frustrated. I'd try to complete some mission, but fail repeatedly. I recall aiming was a huge problem. But, really, it was just too hard for me too... with too much repetition to get past a point. So, I just gave up in frustration. But, yeah, I shoud check out 4. |
