So I updated my PS3 and it now says 3.96... What happened to the 4.0 update (or whatever the update was to enable XMB?)

I heard there was a problem with it and they recalled it. They will be reissuing the update a little later. I dont know any other details, I had just heard this. I have already DL'ed the update prior to this supposed problem, I am a little worried now. Will I be fine or will I experience problems? I dunno, maybe someone can shed some more light on this.

If you got the update and had no issues, you're fine.

"Unfortunately, the only currently known fix for those with a non-operational system is a save game-erasing hard drive reformat. One could always transfer saves over to another media device prior to reformat, but the only other option at this time is sending it in to Sony for a $150.00 repair. Given Seybold's comments, presumably Sony will be working out other fixes for systems that were broken with the update soon. "
Ok - so they say the only fix is a reformat, and you'll lose everything. EXCEPT, if you move your saves to another media device. WELL NO CRAP!!!!!
Also, why the hell would Sony charge $150 to repair something THEY broke? |

Glad i was slow to update and missed the window. I usually wait a day or 2 before updating my system, to see what problems it's giving people.

I updated mine and no problems. Is there a solid list of known problems? I have heard a few:
1. PS3 stays stuck in limbo on welcome screen of the PS3
2. Accesories like headsets dont function right
3. Games dont function right
So is there more or is this a solid list of known problems? My PS3 works fine but I havent tested thwe accesories or PS2 or PS1 games, which I might do in a few.

My 20GB worked and is currently in 2.40. Played Uncharted (PS3), War of the Monsters (PS2) and Mr. Mosquito (PS2) over the last few days. No problems.
It is interesting to me the problems that developers - and now the manufacturers themselves - are having problems coding for the various models/configurations of machines. There is a great amount of variability whether PS3 or 360. Seems the Wii, with its relative simplicity, is avoiding this problem?

I just updated mine to 2.41 which supposedly is the "fixed" version of 2.40. So far no issues.

I'd just like to correct the above quote.
Sony was never expecting people to send in their PS3 for $150. Sony was going to send you a NEW PS3 to make up for the broken one.
Just clearing that up. Even though I like a few guys from 1up.com and talk to them via messengers, they have a strong 360 bias on that website and like to "bend" situations in order to create more hits. It's effective, but sleazy just the same. |

I never understood the attraction of achievements.
I just played Ninja Gaiden 2 for half an hour and it seemed like I got a dozen achievements. The pop up got annoying after awhile. I guess the problem is that I'm more of a casual gamer in the sense that I'm not competitive. I don't really care that other people don't see my video game accomplishments. |

most games dont even support trophies yet. super stardust HD as the only game that supports it in my collection...uncharted doesnt but should soon I guess, mgs4 doesnt, virtua fighter 5 doesnt, tekken 5DRO doesnt...i wonder if all games that come out now will support them, or if it's optional. |
PeteKelly

| | #33 posted July 12, 2008 at 3:43pm (EDT) |
I thought the trophies were going to be more than just a trophy.. I saw a clip of home before portraying trophies from Lair (might have been a 'what if' example dunno if it's going to support them or not) but it showed trophies that were different dragons and all. If it has stylistic trophies i'm cool with it. If it's simply gold, silver or bronze trophies then... meh.. I mean it's cool I guess but I dont care. |
tonymack21

| | #34 posted July 13, 2008 at 10:34am (EDT) |
ya i think i would care a little more too if it was something just other than gold sivler bronze etc like you said. if it was stylized stuff you could put on your home that might be kind of cool, but i still dont really get into all the achievements and stuff, id rather developers focus on making the games better than having to worry about putting this kind of stuff in a game and something else suffering. |

| | #35 posted July 13, 2008 at 10:37am (EDT) |
Well, we are living in the age when they try and teach kids that everybody wins and you all get trophies. Guess this is just a continuation of that theory.

| | #36 posted July 13, 2008 at 10:55am (EDT) |
Yeah. I'm not against the trophy thing it's just not that big a deal to me. I guarantee some people are gonna buy Super Stardust HD now just to get the trophies. Me? No. To some people this is huge, so, it's a cool feature I just wish it were more than a trophy. |

| | #37 posted July 13, 2008 at 11:05am (EDT) |
Super Stardust is pretty damn cool though, atleast from what i played of the demo.
I have a God Of War edition PSP on the way, is it possible for me to copy Pixel Junk Monsters from my PSN downloads to my psp? I have no clue, just will be getting started on all of this PSP jazz.

that's something I've been wondering too. I just got a PS3 and I've had a PSP for a little while now, I was wondering what kinds of things you could do with the two of them? Is there a website or anything that details that kind of stuff?

all i've done so far was download the God of War demo to my psp. We should make a post about that and keep each other up to date on what cool stuff you can do with the ps3 to psp connectivity. |

i also have no clue what you can do with the ds and wii together, seeing i still haven't turned my wii on since jan, though i bought wii fit yesterday, so maybe it'll get turned on in the near future. I've been playing lego star wars on my ps3, and switching between Space Invaders Extreme and Arkanoid on my DS. All of my other systems are collecting dust currently, well, the one's which aren't packed away.
