Hey, I am getting a japanese Dreamcast system and I was thinking of getting a VGA box as my JPN dreamcast will be playing shmups and fighters. Sooooo, any suggestions as to which to get? How much do they go for?
Any info would be great..
Thanks |

I got a cheap 3rd party one and it works flawlessly. I'd say ur lookin at $15 to $25. if ur handy u can even build one. the schematic was still at gamesx last time i looked. |

Just bought one on ebay for 25$ shipped... its coming in.
I also bought a VGA converter for all other systems too for 100$
I believe that will work well.... I'll post feedback on the new arrivals |

vga box and a cable for a monitor. i dont have a hdtv but i think it has to have a standard vga input, not dvi and i sorta remember reading that not all hdtvs work with the resolution of the dreamcast vga output.
waitin for the review of the universal vga adapter jimmy picked up. never read anything good except for the xrgb but that is more than $100. i hope u found a good alternative. i cant afford a xrgb.

the VGA Box I have enables S-Video out I believe to a TV.
But then again I just picked up S-Vdeo Cables for my DC and Saturn.. so not sure what good that will do. |

oh the VGA box gives you the option of connecting your DC both to the monitor and TV at the same time with a switch
its more of I guess an added option for those who don't want to unhook their dreamcast every time they have to change from monitor or TV |

what about the universal adapter. and u can force some games to display in vga by booting the dc with the cable disconnected than connecting it after powerup

no you can't force it to work, I tried it.
All there is, is a blank screen, once the game is booted. If you open the lid it goes back to the original dreamcast screen. |

3rd party for like $15 is good, I got one and it's always worked perfectly. I also have the plans on my pc if anyone wants to make their own.
