Hello everyone. I wanted to share my joy as today is the day I secured a Sega Dreamcast Broadband Adapter. It is complete in box and is being shipped off to me shortly. I have been after one of these baby's for years and i am very excited to finally be able to get one now.
Is there anything these things are good for nowadays other than backing up games or going online to play PSO or Quake III Arena?
I will be playing PSO for sure...just curious about the other things it can also be used for.
Also, if anyone here still plays PSO online on Dreamcast, i'd LOVE to get a game going someday. That would be a blast.

Cool beans. As nice as it would be to say for myself that I have one, I don't think I want to spend the money for it to just sit there.

Yeah, looking at the Ebay prices, I could buy 3-5 used Dreamcast systems for the price it goes for.
OSG, how much did you pay for it?

Hello. darktangerine, to answer your quetion I paid $101 shipped on it. It will be WELL worth it I think as its a Dreamcast item i've wanted to get for years and years.
Here is a link to my winning auction for it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPa...
I already paid for it so im just waiting for shipping confirmation on it.

Hey, thanks neozeed. I am downloading those browser files now as we speak.
I got on PSO last night for a few mins. You can only access PSO ver. 1 now because you cant do anything about the Hunters License required to access PSO v. 2 on Dreamcast. I would like to play some PSO w/ someone sometime...I think it would be a good time.
If anyone here still plays it online... ver. 1 that is, I would love to discuss a time to meet up on a server and do some leveling up and such.

I doubt that it's worth buying a $160 dollar adapter...

It IS worth it actually. The Nostalgia from just surfing the net on the DC is worth it alone.
But what makes it better is that now PSO doesn't cost to play so think of all the $$ you'd save there.
ALSO, its just fun to have as it makes getting on PSO sooo much easier. It is worth the purchase because if you ever needed to get rid of it...its not going down in value ever. |

I love Dreamcast as much as the next guy but why waste the $160 when I can get Phantasy Star Universe or whatever and play it better for $40? And that's a USED adapter WITHOUT shipping. A new is way more. I'm not trying to bash it but I mean come on.

Well, I am very happy with my DC BBA. I was looking for one for years and I got this one for $105 shipped. I think I got not only a great deal but a great piece of DC hardware/memorabilia. I do love playing PSO online because its the only PSO I want to or care to play. I dont care much for Universe or the crap as I dont like to play server fees. Also, I am a huge sega fanboy at heart so I personally feel Phantasy Star should be played on the DC and not on some other console.
I am personally 110% satisfied and happy with my BBA and I personally think anyone that owns a Dreamcast NEEDS one of these...but I understand and respect your decision to not get one.
See, back when DC was in full swing( i got my 1st DC in december of 1999) going online and playing PSO was always something I wanted to do. Sadly, I could never figure out how to do it back then w the crapty free isp's and such that were offered, and I couldn't afford PSO server fees and I wouldn't want to anyway(paying monthly to play a game you bought is insanity and retarded IMO). So here we are now 2009 and im doing all that I missed or wasn't able to do back then with the DC(go online and play PSO). I guess it holds more of a nostalgic type thing for me which makes it very enjoyable.
IF you change your mind though...i'd love to get together with you(or anyone) in PSO on DC and have some monster killing fun. |

I would like to get a BBA for my DC. does your bba come with a disk or not if not then how do you set it up just wondering.

BBA's do not come with any sort of browser. You need either the planetweb 3.0 browser, OR http://www.psilocybindreams.com/pc/index.php that one to configure everything and surf the net. It is really easy with the BBA. |

Hey believe me I would be doing it but I don't even have dial up, where could I get one as cheap as possible?

OldSchoolGamer

ebay i guess....you prob. aren't going to find one for under $100 but if you would...ebay would be your best bet. |

Are they so expensive because so few exist? Were they made by Sega or what?
 |
OldSchoolGamer
| | #21 posted January 10, 2009 at 6:24pm (EST) |
They were not commercially available in stores. They were sold for a short time online through sega's website. That was the only way to get one, and they retailed for $59.99 if I remember correctly. So basically, it is a short supply and high demand for them make them cost what they do now. |

I was referring to PSO and all its re-releases on other consoles(PC, Xbox, Gamecube, and now on PS2)
I love the SMS phantasy star. I have a complete copy of it and its my favorite SMS game I own currently. I also own parts 2,3, and 4 for genesis. Great games(yes even 3) |
