Which window manager do you prefer?
I started with KDE because of how customizable it was, but since I decided to give Gnome a shot I've totally fallen for it.
KDE is - to my mind - overly complex / customizable. I mean, I like being able to customize, but I really like Gnome's dedication to simplicity. And I particularly think that KDE looks very amateurish/unprofessional by default. U-G-L-Y.
I'll also take recommends on what to try. I seem to recall there being a live CD with like 12 WMs on it. Maybe I'll go find it now.

I really don't like KDE. I agree that it is overly complex/customizable. It just looks ugly to me. I'm currently using Gnome, and am happy with it. On a less powerful machine I'm more inclined to use Window Maker or Openbox.
I recently played with ion3 and found it pretty cool, just don't have time to config and learn it. |

Umm... if you're running Linux, chances are you're already running an Xorg server. It's what handles the windowing for Gnome, KDE, etc. Here's a list of some of the desktops that run on Xorg.

well over in puppy land, I'm using xvesa insteado of xorg, since xorg doesn't work with either system I've tried puppy on. I'm using the default window manager, jvm I think.

My preference:
Fluxbox on older computers, GNOME on newer ones.
KDE is too bloated / icon-rich for my taste. |
