Man I gotta get a new gaming computer for when this comes out. If the Paladin class is as good as it was in Diablo II, i'll definitely be rolling that again.

The Witch Doctor is basically the Necromancer from D2, I think.
It's great to see it's announced, but I wonder when it's going to be released? Or at least public beta'ed? |

Bliz were emphatic that the Witch Doctor isn't the Necromancer, and I'd be likely to agree, just on the bit I've seen (other than the obvious similarities, they said something along the lines that they've made him a good bit different).
We'll be lucky if D3 drops before 2010, I'd say. I read a discouraging comment just a minute ago about Starcraft II not making it this year either  .

Looks purdy. Did they list a date? 2010 seems far out there although Blizzard reserves the right to release it when the game is ready. Still, Blizzard seems to put out its announcments...reasonably close to release, with the exception of Starcraft Ghost....

Next fall at the earliest, hopefully. The gameplay footage did make it seem like it was pretty far along right now, but only Blizzard knows.

To my knowledge, Blizzard always lists release dates as "when it's ready" until it gets very very close to done. |

Well, they announced Starcraft II about a year ago as well, methinks (maybe about the same time), and I read yesterday it'll likely slip into 2009. I also remember reading a quote from a Blizzard dev when D2 was released saying something along the lines of: "I'll never make another fokkin' Diablo, the development was godawful," lol.

No way it;s going to be out by this holiday IMO. Wrath of the Lich King is supposed to be (again though, who knows?). Maybe that's what you were thinking about?

Blizzard did not announce any kind of date. Given the StarCraft II was announced a year ago, and is nowhere in sight, 2 years is an educated guess as to when we might see it.

Exactly, I doubt even all the animations for the barbarian are done yet. And that was just a few small areas of the game they showed, I'm hoping there is a LOT more to the game than that. Typically the game engine is done first, and then they start adding all the levels and art. And that's what really takes all the time.

Yeah, I wasn't implying that it was close to being done (I know about Blizzard's 'when it's done'). But rather that the trailer really did what it was supposed to do on me....get me excited about the game. |

If you think about it though, I'd say it will be out around Q2 '09. Blizzard really does not have to worry about balance issues as much as they have to with Starcraft 2 and WotLK. PvP in Diablo has always been a side game so I would think they'd be pouring the majority of their focus on the actual content of the game.
I've been following SC2 just in the interest of how their are going to achieve race balance and it is staggering how many things they changed over the past 6 months. The general impression that I've been gettiing though is Zerg is going to absolutely dominate at the start :(

I assume they're shooting for a Christmas release, but we'll see if they actually make it. The Burning Crusade was supposed to be out for Christmas, but when it wasn't ready, they released it early last year.
