They've cut very little in terms of content, actually. The latest build is most improved. With 2 or 3 major delays, it's hard to speculate that EA is pushing TOO hard. We'll see when it drops *smile* .

On one level, I agree with you: shipping the game with four classes for two complete realms, and taking away a class for the other four realms/classes, kinda sucks. However, if there were, say, only five remaining classes, I'd agree...losing four classes would be MAJOR; as it is, there will be twenty classes in-game--TWENTY!--with the other classes to follow after release (da plan, as of now). How many games ship with twenty classes? If you can't find something to play until one of the other classes comes along out of twenty classes, then...keep laying WoW *wink* . There are also other omissions, from what I've read, but the game proper quite complete from Tier 1 to Tier 4, with all of the main campaigns working, tons of scenarios, open-field RvR, full Tomes, lots of PvE, and more, so by and large the game will be content complete. In retrospect, WoW shipped with no real PvP system, other than scrums around Tarren Mill, etc., so to think of twenty classes, a rich PvP experience and plenty else to do out of the box, WAR will have plenty for the average MMO gamer, IMO.

That said, I haven't read anything about EA pushing it out the door; what with the various delays, and the time to make the game better and better, I feel like it's more a case of Mythic biting off more than they can chew in terms of game design instead of EA trying to push the game out the door. If that was the case, we would've had a half-arsed WAR at the end of last year instead of the increasingly polished ongoing beta. Who knows, with EA, but it seems to me they've been pretty lenient and have likely poured a good deal of money into the game already. I reckon they probably do want to beat Lich King outta the gate, though.

I want the game to be good so there is some actual competition. What I don't want is to see a company cut a huge chunk of content because to me it already shows a weakness in their development process. If they are wasting time on stuff that isn't exactly easy to cut in the first place, I'm worried how the overall polish of the game is going to come out. Funcom basically torpedo'd themseleves the same way, wasting time on crap they couldn't handle, cutting it and ended up releasing a clunky game that is still buggy and fails miserably at what they were trying to differentiate themselves from WoW. Everybody I know that ended up going to play AoC is back on the WoW teat and the main complaint was that the game was lacking in quality. Much like WAR I had hopes it would put a dent in WoW so Blizzard would finally get out of the lull they are in when it comes to content development.

Additionally, cutting 4 capital cities in my mind really ruins the diversity of the RvR system with only leaving two major capitals. I'm sure there are going to be other RvR hotspots other than capitals but the lack of choice of what capital to raid or defend based on risk/reward was what I thought would be the coolest thing about the game. In WoW it's like "So Staghelm was killed by Horde? ZzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzZzzzzz"

It's common for MMO's to lose content at release. WoW released with no BGs, no Hero classes (originally planned), etc. Vanguard lost a class or two and brought along a bevy of bugs (it truly was rushed out the door).

However, in terms of polish, WAR is coming along nicely. The latest build is impressive in its improvements, graphically, performance wise, etc. RvR is working in all tiers, and trust me there is plenty o' PvP/RvR outside of the capital cities to keep people happy for sometime. Well, at least for me.

That said, I don't want WAR to drop because I want a dent in WoW. WoW's content is fine, IMO, I'm not hoping for WAR in order to prove something to Blizzard. I want WAR to drop because I want to play WAR, because it will be a fine little niche MMO for PvP players with enough new to offer to keep it fresh and fun. Eventually the classes and the other capital cities will come along, and that's fine with me, gives me something to look forward to in content patches on down the road. If I played 100+ hours a week, I suppose the content might dry up, but being as casual as I am, WAR will keep the wife and I happy for a long time without some of the content that will be missing at launch.

I'm stoked, sure enough.

I see

I guess it depends what you want in a MMO. Whatever horse I've picked I'd like to see it succeed on a large scale instead of being relatively obscure (the so called niche).

One thing that I've really liked though from WAR is that combat system, mainly for hybrids where you have to balance your play between different spell types (ex: Casting heals mainly weakens them gradually while your damage types get strong with little use and vice versa). I'd like the idea of it promoting varied play instead of being 1 dimensional. BC really killed this kind of play as hybrids had to become way more specialized and there are so few exceptions to the rule.

I want fun in my MMO, for me, the wife, even some friends. Persistent, evolving fun. If the MMO is popular enough to be successful and last for years, I'm happy. I'm not picking race horses but rather designs configured to give me pleasure. Lots of PVP and RvR will give me pleasure even if 9 million people aren't subscribed. And a niche MMO doesn't make it obscure; WAR is far from obscure, and it's not even released yet.

I guess we have entirely different views on what we like in an MMO. I'm not even sure if I understand where you're coming from, to be truthful.

Looks like EA is forcing a rush job on Warhammer Online. This is the worst thing you can do with an MMO.. Well good thing that AION is the MMO I am waiting on and not this. I still hope Warhammer does good but it doing stuff like this is bad business.

In the latest of an ongoing series of interviews with MMORPG.com, Mythic Entertainment VP and General Manager Mark Jacobs has dropped big news on the Warhammer Online fanbase: major features are being culled from the game in order to make their Fall launch deadline. In short, the capital cities for the Dark Elf, High Elf, Orc, and Dwarf factions will not be in the game at launch. The Human city of Altdorf and the Chaos Inevitable City will be the only Capital cities in the game. This is an enormous change, seemingly changing much of what we know about the game's core of RvR gameplay.

Additionally, four classes are being removed, deemed to be in a condition unsuitable for launch. They are:

The Choppa (Greenskin) The Hammerer (Dwarf) The Blackguard (Dark Elf) The Knight of the Blazing Sun (Empire) As the website notes, all of these are melee classes and two of these were intended to be the primary tanking classes for their race. This leaves the Empire and Dark Elf races without a dedicated tanking career, possibly limiting their contributions to end-game PvE content. Jacobs moved immediately to try to curtail the obvious rumor-mongering: "This has nothing to do with EA ... they had zero input in this ... They don't even know about it. It's not a discussion we would have with them."

We've previously expressed some reservations about just these issues. How do you feel about these major announcements for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning?

That's old news, fool. The missing cities aren't such a big deal since they're going to rotate them in and out in pairs anyway (which makes sense, to keep some focus instead of players splitting up and raiding all over the place, which I suppose would be possible). With 20 other classes, I don't mind missing out on 4 of them for a spell *wink* .

That said, it's not a rush job, after all of the delays its already had. It's a tall order, IMO, and what is in place now does not, in any way, feel rushed. It's polished and plays great, despite your standard MMO beta bugs at this stage. AO was a rush job; WAR will just be missing some features. WoW didn't even have any real PvP system in place when it dropped *shock* . Look at it now!

I'm super stoked for WAR, wife and I both *yes* .

I dont really keep up with all the news but I dont believe in taking out features of a game no matter what, especially just to make a release date. There is no justification in that. Its bad and thats just what it is. If its not ready then wait till its ready because I guarentee you when this game is released these missing features are the first things that people will start to complain about.

There's at least a system in place, compared to the fun that was Tarren Mill at WoW's release *wink* .

Were this the new Elder Scrolls they were releasing, I'd agree with you, since those games are much more static; however, it's pretty standard with MMO's to release without all planned content, they're a long way from easy to develop and put ALL of that stuff in at release, and MMO's are ALWAYS a work in progress. WoW was hella barebones compared to now, or any MMO for that matter, they're constantly being improved. Just because it's released doesn't mean it's ever done, and if they have to patch the classes in after release, that's fine with me. Obviously I'd much rather see all 24 of them in at release, but I'll take what I can as long as it's polished, playable, and fun, and not AO at release. WAR is very ambitious, with 24 planned classes, 6 main cities that you can raid, PvE content, PvP from level 1 to 40, scenarios, RvR, a frickin' wonderful Tome, etc. To accomplish even 90% of that is impressive, IMO. And I really like WAR, and I love the devs too, they were so great with Camelot, so open and communicative, which might be half the problem, lol--they talk and share too much as they develop.

Anyway, I'm starting to sound like a spokesperson, but I really dig WAR--it's the only current MMO in development (other than Warhammer 40k) that I'm really interested in, until Blizzard's next MMO (mmm, World of Starcraft...). I * love * it *wink* .
