I just go through phases with mmo's kept bouncing between EQ2 and LoTRO, and there was a sense of lack of community in EQ2, probably since it's been out for a bit and the server I picked but the spells and such are just amazing, i love when you casts things like disease class spells and the characters get's boils all over them and starts heaving up green crap, they don't just take dmg

What made you start EQ2? With the Aion avatar and all, I'd figure Aion kept you busy.

. The game is already over run with Botters, Farmers and Gold Sellers and looks like NC Soft is not going to do anything about it. I went through this for 4 years in Lineage 2 and I am not going to do it again with Aion. Also Aion is just too Themepark for me. You talking about hand holding and spoon feeding? No game does it better than Aion. Go kill 10 wolves then come back just to go kill 20 birds. Rinse and repeat with nothing else really to do. Aion does not have any kind adventure or social aspect to it. Everbody is just running from point A to point B to point C trying to get to point Z fast as possible. People say the game does not start till LV 40 or LV 50 but when people say things like that about a game I then know that its not for me. I want to enjoy a game from the start and not have to chore through level afther level trying to get to the good stuff. Aion is not a bad game but its not for somebody like me who is looking for something deep and with some challenge. I am so disappointed in Aion. I have been talking about that game for the last 2 years thinking it was going to be something special and its just another game to add to my list of failures. I will probaly be putting my account up for sale soon.

As for Everquest 2 I did not even mean to start playing it. I decided to try Vanguard and said what the hell and downloaded both Vanguard and Everquest 2. Well afther playing EQ2 I am really enjoying it. When I say something to somebody they stop and talk. People are not racing around doing stuff. They are taking their time and enjoying the game. I made it to the first city last night and saw some high levels so I just decided to go up them and ask some questions. We just talked about the game for almost an hour. One guy showed me all the mounts he had. It was fun just hanging out and talking. This is what I mean by social aspect. EQ 2 also has a huge world to explore and thats another thing that I look for in a MMO. I think the combat is really cool. When you engage a mob it switches to an encounter thats between only you and the mob or mobs you are fighting. Nobody can kill steal or interfere unless you actually call out for help. They have a in game guild adverstisment page where guilds can post ads about them selves and whether they are recuiting or not. It also will show you if a recruiter is online with a portriat of their character and character info. These feature should be in every MMO. I tried Everquest 2 before but my PC was not good enough to handle it at that time. Now my PC is better so the game is running alot smoother. Sony has done alot to make the game run better. It was processor heavy but alot of the load has been moved to the video card so the game now runs alot better than it use to. The have enabled Dual Core support and the game will be getting a graphic update in December I think. I recommend trying it if you are looking for something to play. They have a nice Everques 2 Complete Collection comming out on Oct 19 that has all expansiosn and adventure packs. It also will give you 60 days of gameplay all for only $19.99. I will be playing the trial learning the game but will be getting the collection on Oct 19.

I played Vanguard for a bit as well as EQ2. I played back when Vanguard was really poorly optimized. However, since then, it is BEAUTIFUL. I've almost been tempted to get the free trial.

I remember trying Vanguard when it first came out too. It looks great and runs alot better now then it did back then. As of right now I am leaning toward Vanguard. Open World and more of a Sandbox type game. Even seems to have more people than Everquest 2. Let me know if you decide to try it because I would be cool to have somebody to play with. I am on Seradon server.

I'd diggin it so far, good detail with the bump maps on the clothing and armor but not too overdone like in EQ2, nice crafting system you actually have to do not just type in 200 of the item and walk away, really like that, kinda reminds me of EQ1 on steroids, so far anyways, and my and the now wife loved EQ one the best out of all the MMO's we've played. Our first MMO, plus it seems lots of mmo's just kinda used that as their base afterwords or like WoW took ideas from other MMO's and lesser known MMO's and the WoW addicts rave about originality, sorry, WoW angers coming out.

Most WoW addicts don't rave about originality, at least not in the circles I hang out. Most of them have a bit more history with the genre and know that WoW borrowed heavily from other MMOs, shined up the gameplay, cut down the hardcore requirements, tossed in an amazing universe, and invited everyone outside of the niche to play as well * wink * . It's a long way from original, like most Blizzard products, but the DO IT SO WELL.

I won't disagree with the kids playing an MMO for the first time mistakenly thinking it's all amazing and new, WoW is definitely derivative, but it also did a wonderful job of taking a lot of the drudgery out of past games and making it more palatable for more casual gamers (including the kiddies). That crowd has certainly bolstered MMO (and WoW) numbers, but their effect on the overall community, and the increased isolation of guilds, is somewhat sad. When I was playing Camelot everyone would gather and help with epics, raids, etc., and the community was rather wonderful. I see slivers of that from time to time, but the immature crowd has dampened it somewhat * frown * .

Vanguard is a great game that I will probaly get into later. I am hooked on Everquest 2 atm. $20 for the Complete Collection that gives you all the Expansions, Adventure Packs and 60 Days of gameplay. Could not pass that up.

I did have fun in WoW but it was definatley the immaturity level that drove me away. I ran a guild for a few years but at times like when my daughter was born I had to step away and left it to a friend , when I came back it was left to another who was older yet more immature then a kid, she flipped out and quit the guild just because I came back, we got everything straightened but she had like her own rank just for her alt's and all this ridiculous stuff, but I said me, my friend and her could all run it, no big deal, she did bolster the ranks while I was away (even though I did have ti pull it back together when I got back) there was still more then triple the numbers, eventually she had to take time away and everyone was patting her on the back giving her credit for every aspect of the guild. All I did was step in and say that she did a great job but a few things you said and gave credit for belonged to someone who's no longer in the guild and it was like immaturity apocalypse. I was a backstabber, everyone started with out of game insults, it was the most pathetic thing I've ever seen in a game. Then like 3 weeks later the guy who got them all riled up came on and apologized saying he did it to rip the guild apart so he could pull it back together and look all great lol, it's sad that people need MMO popularity so much, I really only see that in WoW. I'm sure other games have it too but I haven't seen it elsewhere just there so I avoid that game like the plague now.

The immaturity is prevalent in every MMO I play nowadays. To a lesser extent, in some, but...it's everywhere * frown * . But, that's life I guess. I'm in a rock solid, mature guild and don't have any of the guild problems like you've related, so that helps * smile * .
