Maybe a week ago my wife tried turning on the Wii and no go. It just had the amber light on and no matter the button pressed wouldn't go on. So I figured it must have been updating or something and waited a few hours. Still no go and I had to pull the plug out and put it back in for it to start up (light switched to red). Figured this might've been a fluke thing until it happened again two days ago again. Same deal except this time I held down the power button until the light went red and then was able to turn it on again...

So, is this normal? What the hell is this friggin thing doing that I can't even press the power button to turn it on? Is this some crap ass feature I'm not aware of and how do I turn it off? I'm pretty pissed about this as even if this is a 'feature', it's a pain in the ass when you're wife is semi retarded with electronics.

bahahahahahaha.

I'm sorry I can't help any. I'd say call Nintendo or google it, but that last sentence is freaking priceless.

I've had my Wii for over a year, and I've had something like this happen a handful of times, but it hasn't happened in months now. If this continues to be a problem for you, definitely get a hold of Nintendo, your still under Warranty.

I'd say don't let women play with your Wii but where's the fun in that?

I've had some trouble like this too. The most common thing is when we go to load a game (Wii is on,disc inserted and we select it from the main menu, then click start) -- it sometimes just hangs after that. So, we reboot (hold down power for 5 seconds, that hit power to start it back up), and it's fine after that.

It isn't the same as RRoD. This seems to just be fixed by rebooting/unplugging. When the Xbox360 gets a RRoD you're pretty much screwed.

Least I'm not the only one then. I mean it's not as bad as the DRE's and RRoD's and whatnot, it's just more of an inconvenience than anything.

I bought a used Wii shortly after they came out and have also had a few occasional hick ups. I have had the red/amber light of death exactly like you described AlphakirA, where you have to unplug the cables from the back of the Wii to get it to do anything. My red light district was due to my own fault though as a transistor I added for some LEDs apparently wasn't working and was causing the system to GROUND itself in a way it's not designed to. Upon removing the transistor it went back to normal.

I know I've heard of some issue that a small percentage of Wiis were having that people had to send them back to Nintendo. Sounds like an issue that needs some research....

Also try laying the system flat instead of using the vertical stand, if you haven't done so already.

Laying it on it's side is just plain stupid. I put mine in the microwave for 30 seconds and now it works like a charm! If that doesn't work, take it into the bathtub with you.

You know, I think my wife told me to do that the other day, she was kinda pissed about something when she said it, but maybe I'll give it a try.

Alpha,

I have not had that happen with the light ON, but I have had the same type of thing happen after a power outage where the power flipped off and flipped on. Hitting the button did nothing, but unplugging the unit and plugging it back in did wonderfully after about 2 minutes.

Yeah, that's basically the only way I could get it to work as well.
