There is nothing keeping me from buying this game. I haven't enjoyed GTA games in the past, but after reading the reviews for this one... I can't wait.

This is disgusting  I love when video games succeed, but how long have these bullcrap artists played the game for? It looks great, but perfect? Really? If it wasn't in the GTA line would it still be? I say fudge the reviewers, I'll listen to see what gamers like you guys think. Don't let this bullcrap sway you if you weren't going to buy it at first, wait to see what people that were on the fence say first.

Adam my boyfriend, who's going to buy the game (as some of you may figure this is not my type of game!) has been following it and reading the reviews and tells me that the reviewers say its the first video game they've played that felt like it wasn't taking place in a video game world and also called the story one of the best they've ever seen in a video game- if not THE best.
They have justifications for their scores so I don't think it is just because its GTA4.
Now right now, this is rated higher than OOT, which is amazing. However a large thing dragging that game down is its Christ Centered Gaming review which gave it a 8.4.
Now, if they review GTA4, can you imagine the score?

I hope you're right, I may pick this up Friday or Saturday, I'm just waiting for a few GTZers to give their opinion. There's not too many unbiased people here (or obviously with reviewers), but I know who to listen to and who not to so I'll be keeping my eyes peeled. I'd love to be able to get excited over this and pick it up for the weekend. If you check it out, regardless of whether or not it's "your type" of game, feel free to post, I'd love to hear someones opinion that isn't typically into GTA style games

Guys - next time you want to make a topic about something, everyone should start a new thread announcing they are about to make a topic. Then we'll know who is about to make a topic, so that we can all combine forces to make one topic. That way Richie doesn't have to see multiple people making topics. That could cut down on the topics. TOPIC TOPIC TOPIC TOPIC!!!!!!!!!

I've been paying really really close to all the GTA forums. and baisically every person that has gotten it early has said it's one of the most fun if not the most fun game they've ever played and it deserves the hype.

I sincerely doubt it. While GTA is fun, there is absolutely no way it actually has a quality storyline. GTA is pretty cheesy, etc. It might be interesting, but I can't fathom an actual engaging story. It's just GTA. It'll be good, but in a few years, it'll just be GTA, like all the others. |

I don't know, all the reviewers have been saying the quality of the storyline has increased greatly. Matches the quality of a high quality action flick and ign said it was oscar quality(though I think that's a little exaggerated). Everyone who's been playing the game has said the story is really good as well. It's unlike the previous GTA installments. You really get to know Niko(the main character) on a much more personal level like you would in a good RPG. |

Honestly, I see where you are coming from, but I have sincere doubt remaining and it will not yield until I play it. I'm sure the story is just that, a plot device to continue the game moving in progressive manner. We'll see. |

I'm looking forward to the story more this time, it seems like they paid more attention to making it a little more cinematic and believeable, while still retaining some of the goofiness of the old ones.
I love crime/mafia type stories though, so while I'm certainly not expecting Eastern Promises quality or anything, I'm thinking it will still deliver. |

But that there is the problem, it's a GTA forum. Anyone that frequents a GTA forum and actually gets the game early obviously was looking forward to it and a huge fan of the series. I'm hoping to hear from others that usually stray away with the series or at least others that don't think the GTA series is God's gift to video gamers. Once I see a few of you guys that aren't GTA whores say it's worth the praise, or at least close to, I'll pick it up (so throw opinions my way via pm!). I'd love to buy this, but with the exception of GTA 3, I wasn't able to get into Vice City or San Andreas so I'm assuming that if it's not a big step up I'm going to be in the same boat

Whoops, sorry adam
Now my bf got it today, so I went around and watched him play which was quite entertaining.
He didn't play much of the story and got sidetracked.
It was good fun. At first I was skeptical when he had been previously raving on about how he expected the physics engine to make it significantly better, but no, I definitely see now why a physics engine is very good.
From what I saw, this is a lot less cheesy than previous GTA games and far more realistic.

Nick_Danger (NERV) convinced me to pick it up. I hate him for doing so and any damage I may choose to inflict on the game from potential frustration will be taken out on him.
But thanks for your advice With all the GTZers being so hyped up about this and me being so pessimistic, I figured I might as well. I was happy I did the midnight launch with Halo 3 and I hope GTA4 makes me happy to pick this one up on release day...

I actually may have to pick this one up. a good friend of mine picked it up and thats the first thing he mentioned was the great story.. so I may have to eat some crow on this.. oh well. I can admit when I am wrong |

I dont mind it ousting Galaxy, but i have a special place in my heart for OoT
I dont see GTA IV getting less than a 9 from the most critical critic, and the PS3 version is at 99.8%!!! |
