http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/16478/EA-Secures-1Bn...

"In a SEC filing, EA announced that Morgan Stanley, BNP Paribas, The Bank of Nova Scotia and KeyBank National Association had agreed to provide up to $1 billion to help fund the takeover of Take-Two Interactive. EA revealed it had $2.3bn in cash on hand, bringing EA's total budget for the Take-Two buyout to $3.3 billion.

Last week's financials from Activision revealed it has become the largest publisher in the world and with the merge with Vivendi it will further consolidate that position. By acquiring Take-Two, Electronic Arts could reclaim its lost throne."

Wow... I really hope Take 2 survives this. GTA's already pretty awful, just think of how bad it'd be if EA dug its claws into it... *wink*

yeah GTA would have the character pegging pedestrians to death with footballs, and various other sports equipment.

Last I heard they turned down the offer, saying it was too low.

This $1 billion loan was secured yesterday - so they're still trying to move forward.

Take 2 can say what they want, but if the shareholders decide to sell to EA, then there's literally nothing Take 2 can do. If EA gets 51%, that's it - They win. Period.

And an extra billion dollars will go a long way to making that happen. It essentially adds an extra 30% to the amount they can offer to the shareholders to sell out.

I see the problems with buyouts, but I honestly don't believe this will effect GTA and other take 2 games (aside from any sports titles they do).

Of course it will - the music in the games will suck, at the very least *wink*

The whole point of this hostile take over is to make the crappy EA sports games a monopoly. Has nothing to do with GTA or any other R* franchise. Truly, sports fans will be left with nothing but EA products - which is a very bad thing for the industry. That said, I have little doubt the sheeple will continue to buy Madden '08 or Live '07 for the next 10 years....

Looks like another developer is going to have to step up the plate for adult themed games, too.

EA prefers a different style for killing. They are trying the "release same game every year for full retail price so you go broke and starve to death" route, me thinks

Completly agree, for the about 4 years I supported the 2k series.. but there hockey game kinda went down the crapter and EA was clearly the best option last year. That said I will continue to watch the 2K series.. I really want them to do well. I would sooner own a Hockey game without the EA name on it. 2K needs to get a few things right though:

- Online on the PSN. Its very buggy and they are the only dev that seems to have a problem with this.
- Players are to big. Takes away from the realism.
- Frequent roster updates (EA could do this to)
- Better sound effects. (this is whats really impressed me with NHL 2008, the puck runging of the glass or boards sounds amazing)
- Stop that fudging "S" move. Yes you can defend against it, but really fix it... it takes away from the game.

I hope they really focused this year. They were doing so good until last years game.

I agree having less options is NEVER good. But I don't think anyone can honestly hate on the EA sports games...they are well polished games.

EA sports games are well polished ARCADE games on which laurels are rested. They try to convince people that their games are "sim-like", but when your opponent in Madden, for example, can throw the bomb up to Moss 90% of the time for a TD or are allowed to become 4th down whores with superhuman success, it loses its polish in my eyes.

I just rather them keep separate names and not KNOW who they own

Well, they ARE video games afterall, and not perfect representations of real sports by any means - no sports games are. I think every football game in existence has had some type of "problem" that you are referring to - even the 2k sports football games. I think I averaged like 10+ yards per carry in NFL 2k5 with Jerome Bettis. *wry smile*

I don't like the scenarios you are talking about either, but I think these types of things happen in EVERY sports game. Not just EA's. It's half the reason I don't play sports game much anymore. Sure, there are "better" sports games (most are EA's IMO), but none of them are really very accurate.
