You used epic and fail in the same sentence. You're a dork. |

I too am unhappy with the widespread use (and abuse) of the word "epic."

Already been posted and its hardly an epic fail. That article just talks about the PS3 but doesnt take into account the fact that the PS3 enabled Sony to kill HD DVD leaving bluray at the top. A move which hurt Microsoft and put Sony in a position to collect steady chunks of money for the next 10+ years.
Besides like its been mentioned in the article losing money on consoles is common. Making the money back on hardware sales and game sales is the norm and it will be intresting to see their sales numbers this year around Christmas.
Also for a little trivia Microsoft was forced to plop down over $1 billion to extend warranties for broken 360's, plus they lost all the money they invested into HD DVD and their HD DVD player. |

though some argue that Microsoft's involvement in HD-DVD was not with the intent for it to succeed, but to prevent or delay blu-ray's success so that they could more quickly move to digital downloads as the de facto distribution means.
Time will tell whether that strategy was a success.

What is funny is no one ever posts an post console war report. Proving that we all really don't give a crap.

Final Fantasy XIII should have an equal or greater effect than Metal Gear Solid 4 on PS3 sales |

Actually they go crazy for Dragon Quest. The US goes crazy for FF. Not that it doesn't sell well in Japan.

I do not argue the fact that I am a dork. I also read the entire article and understand that it is common to lose money selling consoles, as more often than not the company will put the retail price below production cost.
I just laugh every time Sony makes the news for "losses" or "failures" or things of that nature in regards to the PS3. I realize Sony's got the upper hand after winning the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD war, but it's hard to ignore how poorly the PS3 has been doing in comparison to its competitors.
That being said... there will probably come a time when I will get a PS3. I don't even have a 360 yet, though, and there are a ton more games on 360 that I'd like to play than on PS3 - at least at present - so my PS3 days are no doubt far in the future.

i don't care for sony, but i'd buy a ps3 before i buy a 360.
All the games in the world don't matter a bit if the hardware breaks. Yes they have the 3 year warranty, but i plan to be playing games a lot longer than three years from now...

Except you cant just look at a PS3 without looking at bluray as well. I mean HD DVD add on owners of the 360 now have a paper weight and god knows how much of a loss Microsoft took on development of the HD DVD format, the design, marketing, and sale of the HD DVD add on plus a lack of confidence. I mean someone who bought the HD DVD add on only to see the format fail 6 months later is not likely to jump onto the next innovation Microsoft unveils.
Bluray on the other hand is going to make billions down the road and is a long term investment. It's quite normal for new products to take a while before you start to see a return on your investment so i wouldnt worry about Sony at all. |

People also seem to forget that Sony still makes money on all of the PS2 systems/software that still sells like crazy and with the PSP finally doing well Sony's making some decent money there as well.

I can look at a ps3 without looking at blu ray. I don't watch blu-rays on my ps3, and i never will. I bought it to play games with, end of atory. It's quite easy to find a decent bluray player for $300 or less nowdays, so there's no need to buy the ps3 to play movies on anymore.

You might not care about bluray but others do. Bluray is a definite selling point of the system and a major strength and you can't do any form on inpartial analysis on it ignoring its strength. If we are talking about Sony failing on the PS3 we have to factor in blue ray as the system was designed to help push their format to the front.
Thats like talking about the 360 and ignoring online features because you don't play online |

if i had a 360, i would igore online features, i don't play online. The only game i have played online for my ps3 is nhl 08 and that was only a few games. Didn't play COD4 or any of the other 20 some ps3 games i have online.
