I've always been laughing at sony for losing money on their console. They put so much costly hardware in the system, and its almost useless because they never use it to its fullest capabilities. They could have gotten away with putting less expensive hardware in their system and having it run just about the same, but they felt they had to put all this money into R&D and hardware that software developers dont even know how to fully utilize yet.

Once they start actually making some money from their software (which is predicted to be Q4 this year or Q1 this year) then hopefully they can lower their prices on the PS3 so I can hold off on getting one and get it fro cheaper.

So they're like Microsoft this generation? Just like MS lost money with each Xbox sold last gen, seem Sony is the one losing money this gen. Serves them right for putting expensive hardware in the system and not looking for options to manufacture parts cheaper. I guess their way of cutting costs is to remove the BC chip.

I'm glad PS3 is built well, unlike 360. Earlier this week my 360 was having freezing problems....it froze at like 5am so I went to bed, than the next morning it froze like 8 times in a row when I tried to play it. I also occasionally have them problem where the 360 don't run at the correct frames per second and it run at like .7 or .8 normal time so stuff looks really weird, it does it on HD DVDs too.

At least PS3 is built well enough to not have extreme hardware woes like on 360. And its normal for the console corporation to lose money in the first 1-3 years.

What I am really looking at now is the Playstation's life cycle. They still support the ps2, whereas M$ dropped the Xbox soon after announcing the 360 it seemed. There is probably going to be a new console for M$ in 2010...which to me is both good and bad. Good to get an update with possible prettier games...but bad because it seems right when developers are comfortable making games for a system, it's chucked out in exchange for a new system with all new bugs and junk.

Things might change...but I plan on riding the 360/Wii/Ps3 train as far as it will go. Hopefully to take me past the next gen and onto the gen after that where I can pick up the skipped gen console and games for cheap and really be amazed at the next gen (like going from psx/n64 to ps3/360).

For what games sir? I just play my ps3 for first party titles mostly and play my 360 for all the other games because the 3rd party games run better on the 360 and have better online

If MS learns anything from this round it will hopefully not rush out another console... IMO there should not be any talk of a new console until 2012.

With the money loss, I am sure Sony does not like it, who would *raspberry* but the impact is somewhat lessoned by the PS2 and its still strong sales. How much did MS loose on the 360 this gen? not including the 3 billion or so with that whole warranty thing?

They probably should've delivered slightly more on their promises (XMB, good online service, online functionality, dual shock controller, etc.) a bit earlier than they did and they wouldn't be in such a predicament. Granted, they still would've lost money on the console, all next gen consoles do when they're released (next gen, not 2 gamecubes taped together) but at least it wouldn't be nearly as bad as 3 billion.

They are like Microsoft last gen with the loss of money for each xbox sold, but they arent like sony because PS3 games have no edge over 360 games, but last gen xbox games did have an edge over ps2 games (better graphics and HD support, and with some games there was support for playing music off your hard drive). The only reason why people chose the ps2 version of multi-platform games is because more people had a ps2, and the edge that the xbox games had wasnt enough to make them want to get one.

I think thats kinds stupid to remove the BC chip as well. I want to get a ps3 but I dont care for media slots or whatever else has been stripped. I just want one console that can play the whole playstation legacy but without all the other fancy stuff that I probably wouldnt use anyway. I guess Sony feels that people like me need to get the 80gb version *wry smile* *shrugs*

Ehh they lose money on the system for a year or two and collect money for the next 10 years off bluray.

I know Microsoft lost a ton on HD Dvd and they have absolutely jack to show for it, while at least Sony's loss has cemented them in the top place for bluray which will net them quite alot of money in the long run.
