My PS3 stopped working last night after a whopping 2 weeks of moderate use, and I didn't know what happened. I thought that after a night of rest it would be as good as new, but that wasn't the case. I was pissed this morning, so I called the Playstation Support Line, and they said that it is defective. I will lose all of my PS1/PS2/PS3 data, and I don't know if I'll get my Assassin's Creed game disc back (I have to send my PS3 to Sony to have it fixed). Supposedly, alot of the new 80GB models that came packed with MGS4 are defective, so I thought that I'd warn people. Hold on to your old PS2 memory cards so you don't lose your data. This really does suck big time  |

No, what it doesn't like is having Assassin's Creed in it. Maybe it felt like it was getting raped by a not-so-hot game. |

Until there are a lot of reported defective units. Gotta chalk this up to isolated incident rather than "omg. panic in the street. your ps3 might
be broken too!!!!"

OMG I lost ALL my Ps1,2 and 3 data.... .from all 2 weeks of moderate use!

I'm going to guess he transferred saves over, then deleted them from the original source (ie his memory card)

That's exactly what I did (then sold my mem cards). As for the 80GB defective thing, the only proof I have of alot of unit being defective, is that the guy at Sony said that they were taking alot of the MGS4 models in for replacement. |

I don't see why the MGS4 models would be any different, hardware-wise, than the other 80GB models.
But it's odd if that's the case.

Did ya do the new system update? Some people ps3's are stopping to work after they did the update.

Actually, I'm using a dial-up internet connection, so I wouldn't be able to update my PS3 or Wii until I go back to college in early September. |

Then maybe your just unlucky and jumped the gun. The only problems I have seen with sony lately is this patch... nothing with Hardware. |

I don't know. Maybe I'll just try to track down a 20 or 60 GB, and buy MGS4 seperately. This whole, "spend $500 on electronics only to have them break down in 14 days" thing makes me think I might not even want to get a PS3 again. |

Definately sounds like you got a bum deal. I bought a refurbished 80gb motorstorm edition from overstock.com auctions, from the best buy store one there in jan, for $380 shipped, and haven't had any problems whatsoever. Now if i could just find somebody to sell me a system box in better shape, with the packing materials, to replace mine with the upc cutout and no packing materials, i'd be set.
