Another +1 for Casey; he's on a roll.

I fully support "analysis, criticism, discussion, and all the other tools that together constitute debate" * yes *.

As for 10/10s, I stopped rating crap a long time ago, but I understand what people might mean by a 10/10: thoroughly entertaining, from beginning to end. For me, Dead Space is a perfect game: it's not without its flaws, but it's the most fun I had with a single game all of last year, from the graphics and audio to the story, atmosphere and replayability, it's an outstanding game, a 10 for me, if I had to rate it. GTAIV, which garnered many "perfect" ratings--not so much. Ocarina of Time? 10/10, for sure. But that's just me...carry on * wink * .

PS If you're a gamer, and you've never been fully and completely engrossed by a game...that's just * frown * .

Strangely enough, I didn't care for the demo either, but for different reasons: it dropped you into the action too quick, didn't really let you get a feel for anything before throwing you into a room full of nasties.

The graphics are definitely dark, but far from drab, although the game has been criticized for its uncreative ship locales. I totally disagree, though--the ship is amazing, from steamy corridors to walking outside, twas the bomb.

As for uncreative and cliche enemies, I like them: the designs are nasty and frightening enough, but the creativity in the creature design is more in the gameplay than in the actual art, which you learn the more you play but isn't evident right off the bat.

Guitar Hero 3 - 7.5/10 - My first gh, I thought it was fun. Although, after beating everything on medium in a couple hours, I have little inclination to keep playing. It just seems like anything above medium is more work than fun; I basically don't like spending time in practice mode at all. Also, the set list in this one is far from my tastes.

That could be a reason. Elite Beat Agents has a terrible tracklist but fantastic note charts, but I much prefer Ouendan, which is virtually the same game with incredible songs and decent note charts. beatmania is one of my favorite rhythm franchises and while the US version is identical the the Japan releases, the track list was too terrible to make it a playable game.

The tougher difficulties in Guitar Hero do take more practice, but they are a lot more fun. Medium doesn't feel right half the time, not enough notes, etc.

Prince of Persia (Xbox 360) - 8/10

Decided to start this and hoping to beat it this weekend before I send my 360 to get fixed. I'm really liking this. There's basically only one path to always go but I love the acrobatics. The graphics are amazing, and while the Prince's attitude doesn't really fit, the rest of the sound and music is great.

Prince of Persia (PS3) - 7.5/10

Felt a lot like Assassin's Creed, though I had more fun with AC. The platforming, while a little dumbed down and not always accurate, was really fun when it worked and the visuals are amazing. This made the light seed collecting the best part of the game for me, backtracking be damned. However, the story was uncompelling and dialogue was terrible, compounded by completely unsuitable voice acting... seriously who thought Nathan Drake would be a good Prince?

FEAR 2(demo)- I think this runs better than the first FEAR on my current set-up, which is something I think is great about alot of the big releases being multiplatform. Overall not much of a graphical improvement(although I do love all the crap floating around) over the first, has alot more detail but even less interaction with the environment. It excels, like the first, in some amazingly fun combat. The AI didnt seem as tricky this time around, but I'm going to run through the demo on hardest difficulty where, hopefully, that will change and maybe turn up the brightness so I can see those pretty guns a little better.

Oh yeah, and wtf is up with the chrome-red blood?

NBA 2k9 - First impressions are favorable: more polished and smoother than 2k8, great animations (as always), and just plain fun.

NHL 09 - Fudge, who'da thunk a sports game could be this good?

Tiger Woods 09 - MUCH better than last year's version, IMO. Can't get my guy to quite look like me yet, though...

FIFA 09 - The improvements over 08 aren't immediately obvious (I've only played 3 games, two offline and one online), but it's still a helluva good time. I wish they'd make another Rugby game one day...

(Each of the above is for the 360.)

Prince of Persia (PS3)

Not sure how I feel about it yet. I'm not blown away, which is what I was hoping for. Graphics are good, story seems decent, setting is good. The controls seem good, but I've died an awful lot, so I assume that it's something that will just become a little more natural with time.

Personally, I actually like the Prince's Nathan Drakesque attitude. It's comical, and I think suits the character well. Elika is cool too, she's definitely the hottest vidya game chick to come along in awhile. I also like the attention to detail with how the Prince and Elika react to one another within the world.

So yeah, high hopes don't quite feel like they've been met.... yet, but it's definitely good.

Oh, and also, so far I think I'm going to have to agree with Shags.

Assassin's Creed > Prince of Persia

Altair moves so much more naturally through the world, and I like the AC combat better, although there are obviously many similarities between the two games.

Both games use the Scimitar engine, which is why the combat in PoP is so similar to Assassin's Creed.

I'm not sure what is so special about Assassin's Creed. I found it boring after a while because you're always doing the same things over and over again. It might have cool graphics, but what difference does good graphics make if the game doesn't have interesting game play to go along with it?

I agree that AC could drag for a bit, but I found it interesting enough to wade through some of the repetitiveness to get to the "boss" in each area, and I also enjoyed the story and the cut scenes.

Also, as much as I saw the same killing moves over and over in AC's combat, they just never really got old, Altair was just a badass jerk.

I dunno, could just be the fact that I'm a bigtime AC whore that makes me like it better then PoP thus far. I thought the game was the bee's knees for sure.

I'll tell you guys what, after playing the FEAR 2 demo, FEAR 2 is gonna put other FPSs to shame and make them wish that they were that fudging epic. There ain't nothing like being in the powered armor and watching a Replica soldier get chewed up by the guns. Makes me wish I had played through the first game.

It was fresh and different, too, wish amazing cities, lots of fun to be had in them. Not without its flaws (funky AI, slightly repetitive), but overall it was a game IMO.

I like PoP, just not as much (yet).
