I'm doing this thing where I buy a $20 game from gamestop, return it after a week, and use the store credit to get another game, and this weeks pick was Bioshock. I have to say, this game is fair. I only played some, but I'm just not seeing the critical acclaim. I mean, the atmosphere is great and all, but it seems way over-hyped. This all might be just because I'm not a huge FPS fan, but perfect 10 all around don't seem all that fitting.

I don't know. I just kept hearing that it was a fantastic FPS, and thought that it might change my mindset about the genre.

I agree, I heard everybody and their mother say how great the game was and when I played it I was like, eh. Wasn't as good as all the hype put it. But the more I played the game the more I liked it. But I wish I woulda waited for the price drop before i played it because it wasn't worth the $60 to me. |

I have like 10 gamestops near me, and I'm only using the ones I don't typically use to do this.

I've done this too.
I watch movies and play games and strategically rewrap the disc into the box. Then I return them to Best Buy when I'm finished. Whenever they ask I just say it's defective. They're usually supposed to offer an item exchange but the one I go to always refunds the money instead because they have less work to do lol.
I've also bought game controllers rom Wal-Mart and opened the plastic very carefully. Then I take out the new one, slip in the old one and return it to the store for a refund. I also did the same thing to the memory card adaptor. I used it and returned it.
I've also purchased pants from Wal-Mart, wore them and washed them and stapled the tags back on. And they took them back and gave me a refund lol. |

I ain't dragging you into anything, maricon. I was just saying that's what i do. And I have also done what you do. Besides, I once worked at Best Buy and they don't give a crap about their employees and wal-Mart makes so much money it doesn't hurt them at all. Best Buy and Wal-Mart don't lose any money when stuff gets returned they just send it back to the vendor for the purchase credit.
Yeah it's dirty but honestly, nobody really gets screwed by doing this. Trust me, just because I play videogames doesn't mean I am uneducated. I know a lot of business relations. |

A mendigo calling someone a maricon. How cute! In any case, it's wrong from a moral stand-point. Obviously Wal-Mart is large enough to ignore such transactions. The fact that returning products doesn't hurt Wal-Mart significantly doesn't make the action any more justifiable. In the end, it's the consumer that loses out. In your case, someone ends up buying a used pair of pants, or a defective controller. All in all, not cool. As others have mentioned, the action suggests certain things about you that are not positive on a trading website. |

That's just despicable. You callously and maliciously subvert GameStop's offer of personal honesty and trust. That policy was created to protect customers from unwittingly purchasing a used "lemon" of a video game, not to manipulate store inventory into your own personal rental stock. Keep this up and just watch how quickly the plug gets pulled on these little niceties. I guess it's true that a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch.
The worst part is you're completely and totally impenitent. You don't care what you do and you don't care who knows. Do me a favor; remind me to never trade with you!

Yeah, I completely feel for the comany that gives you $8 on a game you already spent $60 on, and turns around and sells it for $55, a $47 profit. You are a fudging tool. I'm not depriving them of any of their merchandise, and if I get a game I truely like, I will probably end up keeping it. People always say how gamestop is a crap company, and I semi-agree.
Getting past this cum guzzling ice cream man - I've played more of Bioshock, and it's growing on me. Still nothing I'd play more than 1 or 2 times, or pay more than $17.99 on, but it's actually a pretty good game. I go into all hyped games with a healthy ammount of cynicism, and not being completely blowm away by this wasn't at all unexpected. Maybe when I get even farthur, I'll enjoy it even more.

Trust me. Wal-Mart knows what your doing. I use to work there and you wouldn't believe what people have the balls to repackage and get money back for. But Wal Mart allows it. All in the purpose of the All Mighty Dollar.
IMO FPS are way over hype. They seem to all do the same thing. Shoot guy. Move on. Rinse and Repeat. However, I really did like CoD4. Mostly because it got the adrenaline going. But then I felt CoD World At War was a letdown. I thought about trying Bioshock but everybody said Halo was great and I thought it was alright, not great. |

I use GS as a rental source every once in a while only for the cheap easy gamerscore games not for an RPG or something I couldn't finish in a week time. A week to return a used game is fine and dandy as long as you don't abuse the system. It's their return policy and it is up to the Manager's discretion to accept the return or not.
That being said every week a new "rental" is a little ridiculous but not deplorable since it is their return policy. Returning games as new/defective is illegal and I guarantee you they have a file on you.

ill admit gamestop is dirty but the thing is this why would you spend 60$ on a new game if your just going to return it or trade it in a week or two later.
if thats all you plan on doing why not set up with gamefly and just rent and play the games your only going to be losing your 5 or so dollars then.
the only time i get a used game from gamestop and return it is for two reasons.
A)i didnt have the money to buy the rpg on release and found it used to try out. afterwards trying it out ill decide if i buy it right then or if ill wait til its cheaper so i can afford it.
B)ill sometimes just grab an rpg used just to test it out as i have it but just didnt have time to open it yet.
i buy every rpg that comes out as i collect so i have prolly a good 100+games that are still sealed as i just havent had time to play them. its on gamestops policy that
you have 7 days to in essence try out a game as long as your not abusing the system. testing games out before i buy them i feel is not wrong at all.
especially when i spend a good 300-400 a month on games. |

Well I personally don't give a fudge how try and justify your actions it is wrong and you ARE screwing over a Gamestop/EB games! Look if you don't like there trade in values then its simple don't trade it in, sell it yourself or trade it here! They are not forcing you to trade in your games!
From what I see around here, if I get $8 for a game there not marking it up to near retail! If they are getting in a BUNCH of the same games in I would expect them to lower there trade in value has they are probably over stocked on it! These places are not here to cut little jimmy a break! They are in it to make money... the sooner you wrap your head around it the better off you will be!
Its just funny how some of you make it sound as this is your only option yet you belong to this site! If you really want to rent games then by all means goto a blockbuster or use the many rental services out there! Damn criminals. |

Funny you should mention that. You say Gamestop isn't your only option to sell games, and bring up the point that everyone posting/reading this is already a GameTZ member, but I see a rather glaring flaw, flaws even, with that. I'm gonna start by blowing your fudging mind - NOBODY HERE WILL BUY YOUR GAMES!!!.... I set up like 8 different threads trying to sell my relatively new game for a totally reasonable price, but no takers. I've seen like 12 treads where people were trying to sell their copy of Prototype, but maybe like 2 of them actually had a buyer. Sure, there is the option to post it on ebay or amazon, but we're back to the problem of taking a loss (i.e. listing fees and no guarantee to sell). You see Mr. Canada, you are a fudging idiot.
