In the mood for some action games, played pretty much all the 360/PS3 ones (NG, DMC4, etc). So far on my list to get are:
God of War
God of War 2
Shadow of the Colossus (Action right? Heard it was very good)

Anyone else have their favorite recommendation? Nothing too RPGish like a Dark Cloud, things like the above and the DMC1-3 series(played them). Thanks all

I've always thought "action game" is a vague descriptor. Do you mean something with a focus on mostly fast 3rd person, minor to no shooter-ish style combat and not much else (the DMCs, God of Wars, and Ninja Gaidens fall in this category)? Because I don't know if Shadow of the Colossus fits that description. It is a good game but it isn't fast paced and combat is restricted to bosses. Same issue with the Metal Gear series (focus on stealth and mostly shooter elements), the Prince of Persia series (less on combat, more on platforming), or the Resident Evils (slow combat with mostly guns).

The ones that are closer in style to the games you mentioned are probably the Onimusha series (1-3 and Dawn of Dreams), Rygar, the first PS2 Castlevania - Lament of Innocence (the other one, Curse of Darkness, is slower and has a little more RPG elements to it), and maybe Chaos Legion.

You're right, good point lol. Didn't think that through this late. I was leaning towards more 3rd person fast paced action (DMCs, God of Wars, Ninja Gaidens, etc) moreso than a Metal Gear or Splinter Cell. Onimusha series is a good one, I've only played the 1st one.

A good idea would be to check out trailers or some gameplay videos on youtube for any games you might be considering for this. It's probably the best way to see if it's the type of game you're looking for before committing to it. Spoilers might be an issue though.

I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I've been meaning to check out Psi-Ops. It seems like a lot of fun, and I've heard a lot of great things about it.

If you don't mind a little bit of platforming, the Maximo and Ratchet and Clank series are good pick ups.

Regarding Shadow of the Colossus, I'm not sure if I'd really label it an action game. Essentially, you travel across a map, find a colossus, kill it and repeat. There aren't waves of enemies to fend off, not even an occasional bad guy to dispose of as you travel. It's a great game and taking down a colossus is probably the most satisfying thing I've done in video games. I definitely say try it, but be wary that it's slow-paced, more of an adventure game than action.

Sega Genesis, you will be missed. May you reach heaven and
may God plug you into his own TV and play all your classics Himself.

After all, He named a book after you.

I was surprised by how much I actually liked PS2 Rygar. Not saying its a classic or anything, but it was better than I thought it would be.

If you can play imports, try one called Chain Dive.

They aren't the fastest games in the world but I'd recommend both Headhunter games. They are faster than Splinter Celll at least and I don't think many would think to try them. I always thought they were a little under-the-radar.

I'm currently looking for Sonic The Hedgehog comics. If you have any, send me a message.
