Anyone else picking up this game? I'm grabbing the LE bundle for the PS3. Can't wait to play some Tekken online * smile * .

When I feel like playing tekken, I put on a pair of boxing gloves and try to play Virtua Fighter 2. Simulates the same feeling. * smile *

Haha... I know, I know... Tekken has a bad reputation with some. I love fighters though (everything from BlazBlue and SFIV, back to the original SF and Mortal Kombat)... and I've always had fun with the Tekken series. Not to mention I'm also looking forward to the wireless arcade stick.

I will always have an interesting memory tied to Tekken 3. Back when it was still popular in arcades, my friends and I would go up to the local arcade and play. I was the "champ" of the group, meaning usually I'd beat any of my friends horribly. Anyways, this little kid came up to play and somehow I got nominated to play againest him. I kept beating him over and over and he would not give up. 15+ straight games and this kid kept putting in quarters and would never win. My friends eventually got tired of watching this go on and asked me to let the little bastard win, so I did. I realize it doesn't take much effort to beat a kid half your age. But it was still funny, give the kid points for not giving up I guess.

Ok so yeah I dragged on there. But it was fun to go back to a more simple time when I wasn't pushing pills on old people. * wink *

I'm currently looking for Sonic The Hedgehog comics. If you have any, send me a message.

I've lost all interest in Tekken lately. I remember when I got it with my launch PSX, I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Playing Tekken 5, I wonder to myself, how has this series continued to thrive? It's essentially the same thing every time.

Tekken 6 looks like it will continue this trend. And aside from that arguably overused blur effect, the graphics aren't really anything to write home about. Shouldn't fighting games be the absolutely epitome of graphical goodness? It's not like there's much else going on with them in the background like a game such as say, Grand Theft Auto would.

I've got the LE preordered, too, but I'm thinking about returning it and just buying the regular edition during the Best Buy sale. I don't really need another arcade stick, but a wireless one would be nice.

Also, as far as the Tekken 6 stick is concerned, you're better off buying a cheap Hori stick and modding it with authentic arcade parts. Hori parts are awful.

Disclaimer: I'm a raging Tekken fanboy. It was the first PlayStation game I ever played (and the primary reason I bought a PlayStation over a N64). Tekken 2 was the first PlayStation game I owned. Tekken 3 was the first PlayStation game I ever pre-ordered. Tekken Tag was my first PlayStation 2 game. So, yea, me and Yoshi go way back.

But I totally disagree with the "same thing every time" comment. I think the series has had a pretty healthy evolutionary curve in terms of adding new play mechanics and new characters. Probably the smallest gap was between the original Tekken and Tekken 2, but after that, they've been pretty huge jumps. Tekken 4 doesn't even feel like a part of the franchise, it's so different. (In a bad way, if you ask me.)

I'm not particularly impressed by the jump that I've previewed with Tekken 6, though. I think they've pushed the engine as far as they could with Tekken 5 without making it seem like a totally different game, and they don't seem to be pushing any new fighting mechanics; just the stupid "motion blur" technique and the new Tekken Force mode. Still, I'm looking forward to playing it on a current console and seeing what they can really do.

I think the series should have ended with Tekken 5. The home console release was balls-to-the-wall awesome, the story was starting to head in some ridiculous directions, and they already had more characters than they could handle. I wanted the series to end on a high note. They obviously would never do that, which is a shame because Namco's been a DLC-whoring autopilot this generation, and I'm afraid making the game multiplatform is going to influence its quality. I also don't give two craps about "motion blur".

Also, anybody else watch the promotional video with all the boxers / fighters / martial artists sitting there basically telling kids that beating up your classmates is a good thing? Way to go.

I agree with that; I still think Tekken 3 (and I guess, Tag) is the pinnacle of the series, though that might just be nostalgia kicking in. But with that said, Tekken 3/Tag is light years ahead of Tekken 2. I'm with you on Tekken 4, but I think Tekken 5 took some nice ideas from 4 and implemented them in a game that plays more similar to Tekken 3. Though to be honest, I didn't get to spend much time with Tekken 5 - most of my experience with it is from Dark Resurrection on the PSP which I thought was really, really good.

I have similar thoughts but as I mentioned earlier, I didn't spend too much time with Tekken 5, and I spent even less time with Tekken 6. So even if it's not all that different from 5, I don't think I have much to lose.

Tekken 3 was the best. Tekken 5 second best, only because of the super-cheap final boss.

I thought Tekken 6 was too easy.

Not going to argue there. The Strike Arranges album is particularly good, too.

Another reason why I liked Tekken 5 - they at least tried a little bit to make it closer to Tekken 2's soundtrack. Still a strong electronic influence, though, and far away from the crap they served us in Tekken 4.

I like Tekken 5 because of the penguin stage.

That's the only Tekken I like, and for that reason.

IGN review is up: 8.8

Given how each piece of the puzzle was scored, I'm having trouble how they arrived at their final rating... I know it's not an average, but still.

If it's passable to good it gets between 7 and 9, if it's very good or better it gets a 9. From there they generate a random, meaninglessly specific decimal and slap it on.

If by "random and meaningless", you mean "scaled to the amount of advertising revenue they generated for IGN", you're correct.

I didn't say meaningless as much as meaninglessly specific. If anyone would care to detail the difference between a 9.2 and 9.3 game, I'm all ears.

yeah, its def not an average, but gameplay need to be weighted more than the other categories, then either lasting appeal or graphics to me...i do like ign, but some of their graphics ratings are rediculous...tekken 6 looks to be pretty stunning graphically but only got a 7.5...so yeah, i think it may have got the 8.8 based solely on reputation and i am a huge tekken fan

Oh memories of Tekken. I don't know if I will buy this. I think I'll rent. I was really dissappointed with Soul Calibur 4. And Street Fighter 4 has lost it's flair as well. KOF yeah thats pretty crapty too. Any one who wants to trade me copies of these shoot me an offer please. I'm willing to part with all three.

The fighting itself, I really like. Some of the older characters I've used seem to have been tweaked signficantly to the point that I almost have to learn them all over again (though, to reiterate, I haven't played a Tekken game thoroughly since Tekken Tag, so that's probably why). I'm really digging Alisa - she's easily my favorite new character.

On the downside, the load times are terrible. I haven't played online yet, but I heard that's bad, too.

How good is the character customization? I was sort of disappointed in Dark Resurrection's customization because not all items could be used on all outfits.
