I acquired a PS2 SCPH-39001. Though working, it was very dirty, with just about every orifice clogged with dust. I didn't think it was a good idea to run it in that condition so I decided to take it apart for cleaning. Going well until the controller/card port fell off the chassis (apparently with the cover off it is attached only by a ribbon cable). Now I'm having trouble getting the ribbon to go back in and stay in the little latch on the m/b. The latch clicks down when closed, but it doesn't seem to close firmly since the ribbon will just slide back out. I don't know if my technique is wrong or the latch is broken somehow. The end that is connected to the controller port seems firmly in place.
Another thing I can't figure out is why the bends in the cable don't seem to match the apparent way it should go in. Is there something non-obvious about the way the cable is arranged? Unfortunately I didn't get to look at it before it fell out.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about and how this could be fixed?
Edit: Never mind. Just takes a lot of effort to get the ribbon to go in and clamp down. Even when you think it's as far in as possible... nope, there's still more to go. It's like installing a RAM stick made out of paper. |
