Microsoft is letting developers disable it in multiplayer games. Activision, of course, was first in line eager to take a new dump on Modern Warfare 2.

Why would you need to be in party chat while playing a game involving teamwork? I hate playing games on Halo when HALF THE FUDGEIN TEAM is in party chat....No you stupid fudge, you must communicate with all team members nub

(that wasnt directed toward you, lol)

I don't even know what party chat is since I'm a text chat fan for multiplayer games, but XBL peoples seem to think it's pretty important so this is crapty news.

Edit: Oh, so if you're in party chat, you're not communicating with your team? Shouldn't players have the choice though? Isn't this the whole cross-game chat thing people love?

Wow, so it's not enough that they decide to completely fudge up the PC version. This makes me regret canceling my preorder less and less now.

I just switched to ps3 recently for my primary online console because of various reasons that I will not get into but this is a big problem. Now we have to listen to 14 year old's crap talk when we could of been in a party chat with some friends having mature related discussions with better game tactic communication .... But now we have to deal with a person that has a broken mic with static or retarded people who think they are cool on LIVE by talking crap when the are not . I always use the party chat feature 99% of the time but man this sucks and Microsoft becomes a bigger monopoly by the day with all of this bullcrap.. Also the gamers should have the option. I mean we are paying $50 a year for the service... and why would you remove one of the biggest features of LIVE that changed the way everybody Communicated and the feature that we all came accustomed to?

I think we should boycott Xbox LIVE!

Clearly removing a paid-for chat feature from games for the sake of discouraging cheating is better for everyone. Games aren't supposed to be fun guys. They're serious, competitive sports, and we should be happy that MS/Activision is treating them at such.

How can you want to talk to your friends knowing there's a small chance someone on the other team is giving a minor advantage to someone on the opposing team?

Why boycott the whole service? Microsoft aren't forcing developers to take away party chat. Boycott Activision if anything.

Yeah but Why does Microsoft even give an option like this? It all originates from Microsoft with these silly ideas....

Also this was Supposed to ''MICROSOFT'S '' feature not the developers choice. After all this is Microsoft's operating system...

Well then you should boycott PSN too. It isn't going to have that feature either. And now that PS3 is (finally) at a reasonable price, it won't be long until it too is loaded with crap talking 14 year olds. Just wait until after Christmas. * frown *
When someone's mic is screwed up and comes out as all static or they talk too much crap then it doesn't take much effort to mute them. It can be done in under 3 seconds.

Well at least PSN is free and users are used to having no party mode for a long time. Also it is difficult to mute somebody in the middle of the game when spawns are only a couple of seconds. It's kind of weird but so many people are so accustomed to the feature and it changed the communication on LIVE which means there will be less social activity. They are taking away a key feature that is one of the most important in my opinion to the majority of the people on LIVE. Also what if one person is playing a game and one is and wants to talk rather than playing a game at the same time? This almost happens every time I join a party and it will be a pain in the ass.

I think it's a big deal that Live is a paid service and you're removing a paid feature * no *

Think about it, the more games that opt in to this, the more useless cross game chat becomes. You can't talk to people while playing MW2 or your friends who are playing MW2 now.

I don't use it anyway but I'm not saying it doesn't suck they chose to remove it.
Hopefully other developers will see the kind of feedback this is getting and not choose to remove it from their games.
I just meant he had said the PS3 is now his online system of choice, so assuming that meant he was planning on getting MW2 on PS3 then he wasn't getting that feature regardless.

I'm not really sure which system I'm getting it for yet even though ps3 is my primary online choice currently. I still play both online still but I have my reasons on why I might not get it for 360 and this is now the biggest.. I love the party system but my point was that I'm used to the ps3 not having no party feature but this is massive 360 only feature were talking about which might seriously influence my purchase decision. It's like a one year demo feature for crying out loud and a good one!

Weren't you like the biggest 360 fanboy on TZ at one point?

Well I was never a fan boy of any system as I have all 3 systems but I really did enjoy the 360 for a long time. This no party chat crap makes me not even want to pay to pay anymore. I guess you are a PC game fan boy so you wouldn't care either way * smile *

I use to think no game system could compete w/a pc. However they are getting close. I still take pc over console any day for games such as this. Majority of us have internet already so using something else to play is kind of dumb I think. Why pay extra to play the game on a console? W/pc party chat is not an issue w/stuff like ts and vent.

Not sure about this game now for pc but skins mods, and maps are another reason to play on pc. I still play Mohaa and we can do whatever we want w/that game as far as changing ammo, fire rate, accuracy, damage, run walk speeds it's endless. Therefore I don't see why people play these type of games on consoles. Get use to the mouse lol.

I kind of agree with you with playing with the mouse and it's pretty dam easy. I've been playing counter strike and it's great and it only took a few hours to get used to the mouse.

The only feedback publishers understand is lack of sales. Even then, it will most likely be blamed on something else.

My little brother's going to be mad about this. He has said before that it's hard to hear your friends among all of the other people on your team talking.

What if he wants to play Modern Warfare 2 while his friends are playing Borderlands or whatever else? He won't be able to talk to his friends will he? That's what PSN has been criticized for.

Having to be in the game channel means your friends actually have to be in the same game, playing in the same game party as you. Anywhere else, and you're SOL.

As somebody who hates "ghosting", I didn't have a problem with this. (I don't have an Xbox, anyway.) But those people really adamant about doing it will just switch to TeamSpeak or Ventrillo, and everyone else will still be missing their party chat.

it is supposed to be for only certain game types, and i agree with reed on this, if you want to be in a party chat go play FFA or Lone wolves, because im sick and tired of dipcraps in party chat who run by someone camping in a corner and get killed by him 4 times some other dipcrap 2 times and instead of saying hey there is a mofo camping blah blah blah then the guy calls in his artillery or airstrike which i spawn into and gets dog or heli which continues to spawn kill me.

Personally I enjoy playing hard to get by never accepting friend requests. It makes you an even more attractive friend and by the time you finally accept that party invite sex is almost guaranteed.

Just wanted to point out that there are 3 playlists that will allow party chat (mercenary team deathmatch, free-for-all, and 3rd person teams). By just reading the original post I assumed it was removed from the game entirely, but it isn't.
