I'm getting a Saturn, and would like some game recommendations. Any type of game except sports is fine. Also want them to be games that won't cost me a fortune. Thanks to anyone who replys.

Games that won't cost you a fortune? That gets rid of all the good recommendations.

You're the ice cream man negging me every time I talk about Dragon Force aren't you TJ!!!!!!!
I'll trade back for the copy you got from me
Anyway:
Dragon Force
Panzer Dragoon (1, 2, and Saga)
Shining Force III
Guardian Heroes
Galactic Attack
Darius Gaiden
Magic Knight Rayearth
Dark Savior
Street Fighter Alpha 2
and any other Saturn game in my collection with the exception of Battle Monsters and Criticom. They're in my collection solely because they are horrible.

The Magic Knight Rayearth manga is better than the game. Just get those and read them and feel like a Japanese school girl. Touching yourself afterwards is optional. |

Yes, they are region locked. Any of the Japanese games I have listed are games you would need a card or a mod chip to play.

Yeah Grandia on Saturn would be an import. |

Grandia on Saturn is an import. None of the games I listed above are imports but my collection has a TON of them listed.
You can buy a 4MB backup ram cart for $20 to $30 on ebay that will let you play imports. I'd put a post in the imports forum if you're really interested as I'm sure someone can help you with it.

Three Dirty Dwarves is my favorite Saturn game. You must play it if you haven't already. |

Good Saturn games for someone on a budget... hmm.
Here's a few to get you started:
Astal (colorful, fun 2D platformer)
Clockwork Knight (colorful, fun 2.5D platformer)
Last Gladiators Digital Pinball (I love this game! I haven't found a pinball game that's more fun, but Medieval Madness on Williams Collection PS3/360 comes pretty close)
Your mileage may vary, as these are games I personally liked, and everything I say on this site appears to be wrong or offensive to the majority.

You need a region switch or a card to play legit imports. Modchips only allow you to play backups.
Action Replay 4-in-1 is the best since it lets you play imports, has 1MB/4MB ram for games that use/need it, can use Action Replay codes, and is a large memory card. |

Right, I meant region switch. A system mod.

I've always thought Albert Odyssey was a great RPG, and is priced fairly moderately on the internet. Probably one of my favs on the system, besides Guardian Heroes... but that one's a bit more spendy.
Check out Albert Odyssey though.

Solar Eclipse
Underrated cheap Saturn game that I doubt many besides myself played and really liked. It also has one of the funniest promo videos included in it as well. |

My Saturn has a region switch, and I use a 4M cart, because the Action Replay I bought a few years ago had its 4M part die on me a few months ago.
I've seen one more around here since then, and it was quite inexpensive when I picked it up. I'll keep my eyes peeled at the Evansville Diamond Avenue Book & Music Exchange, as it's the only one in the chain that sells Sega games, and that's where I found the last one.

Some cheaper eBay auctions....
Nights into Dreams -- $5 - $20
Street Fighter Alpha 2 -- $10 - $20
Bomberman -- $20
Rayman -- $10 - $20
Astal -- $25
Some more pricier games:
Guardian Heroes, Burning Rangers, Radiant Silvergun (JAP), Soukyugurentai (JAP). Shining Force 3, Silhouette Mirage (JAP), Shining the Holy Ark, Die Hard Arcade, Dragon Force, Assault Suit Leynos 2 (JAP), Albert Odyssey

$25 for Astal?!
I got mine for $6, and I think that's the price McVans in Evansville still charges. Maybe it's time for a road trip, and then a trade.

You sir have a dirty dirty mouth. Dragon Force is better than HALF of the PS3 and Xbox 360 RPGs out now.
Another title that i like alot is Mega Man 8, Got one from Looky and i love this game. Colors are so vivid and crisp. I have an extra coming in that i got from ebay if you might be interested. I can cut you a deal on it. |

I would be interested in a trade for a nice copy of Astal.

Mr. Bones is one of my favorites. You play the revived skeleton of a dead blues musician. It's mostly a 2D platformer but it also has music-based levels. Although the music levels are a bit overly easy, it's a really fun, charming game.
If you liked Landstalker for Genesis, Dark Savior is along the same lines and very good. And fairly cheap.

But yeah, killer game. RECOMMENDED." -- 2008 |

Then you must not have played Metroid Prime Pinball -- best pinball ever. |

Protip: If you own a Saturn, expect to spend a fortune...that's just a fact of life. Buying a Saturn and hoping to find cheap game is like buying a CD-i and hoping to find games that won't make you want to tear your eyeballs out.
*Bold are my personal faves.
US games you need:
Albert Odyssey
Astal
Burning Rangers
Death Tank Zwei (Unlocked in Duke Nukem 3D by having a save game from the Saturn version of Quake)
Decathlete
Dragon Force
Galactic Attack
Guardian Heroes
Legend of Oasis
Magic Knight Rayearth
Nights into Dreams
Panzer Dragoon
Panzer Dragoon Zwei
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Saturn Bomberman (only for the multiplayer)
Shining Force III
Shining the Holy Ark
Shinobi Legions
Three Dirty Dwarves
Virtual On: Cyber Troopers
Imports:
Bushidohretsuden (Samurai Showdown RPG)
Cyberbots (RAM cart required)
Dungeons & Dragons Collection (RAM cart required)
Elevator Action Returns
Keio Yuugekitai Katsugekihený (Keio Flying Squadron 2)
Princess Crown
Radiant Silvergun
Sengoku Blade
Shinheishusatsushi Taroumaru (Psychic Killer Taroumaru)
Shining Force III, Episode 2
Shining Force III, Episode 3
Sokyugurentai
Wachenroder
If you're looking into modding, go download a NTSC-converted copy of Deep Fear (Euro/PAL)...unless you can read Japanese, then just get the JPN one.
You owe it to yourself to do whatever you can to play the following games:
1. Panzer Dragoon Saga
2. Albert Odyssey
3. Shining Force III
4. Nights into Dreams
5. Psychic Killer Taroumaru
...and if you have more than 3 friends, you need Death Tank Zwei and Saturn Bomberman.

Do you need to know Japanese to play this? |

You could fumble your way through it with no Japanese knowledge, but if you can read just a little Japanese it would help immensely...I mean, it's an RPG after all, which means it's text heavy. |
