My TG 16/CD unit has died on me I am looking to trade or buy another TG 16/CD add on attachment. I probably only need the CD drive but will trade for the whole unit. If I can't find one I would also be interested in a Turbo duo with all hookups. I am willing to trade things not listed on my page out of my collection(DW1-4 CIB,Tactics Ogre and guide etc) Email me or post here |

You know I actually have a Turbo Duo I might be able to trade off. PC engine duo rather. I'll see what I can do.

Keep in mind you'd need a super cd card to play some cd games on a cd add on as opposed to a duo where you don't need the card. |

Haha. Will do! And man, that trade wasn't even for me. I did that trade on part of my cousin.
This will be our first real trade if I find this frigging thing. Still digging around work. I'll probably dig it up tomorrow since I'll be there all day.

Yep I know that. I actually have an Arcade Card Pro that I use. I have the full TG16/CD setup but my CD drive died. |

Ive got some nec cd drives that are identical to the ones used with the TG16 except they are white. I got them from a shop that deals with all ancient computer parts. I wish u didnt live so far away, I would send u one to see if they are compatible. I am dying to know if they work..... they got a box of em at this shop.

If you want you could send one to me and I could test it for you, might even buy/trade it from you if it works, could always use a spare.

Just letting you know I didnt forget about this, I really am having trouble finding the spare duo. This is what I get for having multiple giant storage rooms full of everything. I bet I'll be so lucky it'll be on the bottom of the back sides of one of the rooms.

What's the model number on the laser? The Duo's laser isn't too hard to find but the TG-CD is.

hmm interesting comment, I will look into it.u make a good point that even if the firmware is wrong, the lasers may be good for replacements.

For reference: HOP-M3 lasers will work with a Duo, R, or RX, but not on a TG-CD.

If possible, go for either: TG-CD, Duo R, or Duo RX. If you buy a "regular" Duo (the black one) make sure that someone has "overhauled" it (replaced all the parts that are known to be absolute crap) otherwise you'll find yourself with the standard partially working Duo sooner or later. The TG-CD, R, and RX and far more reliable.
EDIT: What exactly is the problem with your current TG-CD? Not reading discs, no audio, only plays sometimes, etc?

Whats the difference with a Duo R and RX? My TG-CD won't power up. the power cord and TG16 tested fine. I seriously doubt anything is wrong with the docking station so that leaves me to believe the CD drive is dead. I sent it to a friend who does repairs on the internet and he couldn't fix it of guess what was wrong with it Do you have experience repairing the drives? |
platinumfungi

| | #23 posted May 9, 2008 at 9:18pm (EDT) |
Technically speaking the R and RX are the same. There are slight cosmetic differences and the RX came with a so so six button controller. It's the newest of the versions so sometimes people want to get it to have the "newest". From what I understand the RX usually is more expensive for that reason. Doesn't make any difference which you get. Both are far more reliable then the standard Duo.
You could also think about getting a Super Grafx with the CD add on to get your fix. (Just to throw that out there as another option.)
So your CD unit doesn't power on at all? No light display? It can't even get to the point where it will try to spin and read a disc? If that's the case I'd first think the power supply ( I had one that "died" on me and ended up being a faulty PSU), a possible blown fuse (if it has one....can't remember off hand), possibly a bad connection or something with the docking station.
I've played around with a lot of systems in my day but not too many TG-CDs. I'll gladly try to help ya though Let me know about the power issue and we'll go from there.

Nope my CD won't power up at all. I think the power supply checked out ok. I can't see anything being wrong with the docking station.
Oh I was looking at a few Jpn Duo's and I have a question. Do they need a different power supply to run in NA? |
platinumfungi

| | #25 posted May 10, 2008 at 11:33am (EDT) |
If possible I'd have the AC checked again. I still need to find out if the CD has an internal fuse. I assume it does and that could very well be your problem, but I'm not sure. Since it's a power issue here I'd say the AC adapter or a fuse should be the most likely culprits.
Radio Shack sells a replacement adapter for $23 just for reference. In fact, if you have RS in Canada (?) or some similar electronics store you could swing by with the unit and ask them to check it out.
Japanese Duo PSUs will run fine here in the US

Also, I know it sounds dumb, but check and make sure all the locks and switches are in the right positions on the CD unit. From what I recall if the locks aren't in the right setup the unit won't work.

Ok I'll try that but I doubt it will be the problem. It was always setup on a shelf. One day I turned it on and it wouldn't power up *shrugs shoulders* |

I will look when i get home.
I should bring it to the digital press store to test it. they prolly have everything else needed to run the test. the the store is about 20 min from my house yet i have never been there
I really doubt the firmware is correct but using them for parts is good possability

Hmmm....I thought you meant you had just the laser pickup that was white instead of black. Very interesting! At first I thought this was just a PC Engine CD due to the color scheme but once I looked at the PC CD I realized it's not. It 100% looks identical to a US model, just being white instead of black.
So, my money says either straight up as is this should work. The CD-ROMs aren't region specific so even if this was a Japanese version it would read all discs. The lasers would be the exact same. If you can open one up and see if the laser is a KSS model then you should be golden

There is somone selling just the docking station up on ebay right now, though you'd still need the AC and System card to use it.
