Baseball Stars Color (Neo Geo Pocket Color)

Baseball Stars Color is a simple, yet fun baseball game.

Baseball Stars Color is an update to the original Baseball Stars for the NES. Its simple baseball game that's easy to get into and fun to play.

Gameplay is seriously lacking in this game. While most handheld baseball games include a season mode and at least a few mini games, Baseball Stars Color goes for the bare bones. There are technically two modes: 1 Player and 2 Player however they are essentially the same. In 1 Player all you do is get to play against the computer so the only difference between that and 2 Player is you get to play against another person. Having link cable compatibility is nice and does add to the package.

Normally to make up in modes a game would add more options to the package but once again this is not the case. There are only 8 teams to begin with and you can't even improve their skills. You can unlock a few more teams and player types but no new stadiums. Aside from that there are only two stadiums to play in: a dome and an outdoor field. The saving grace is that this game is easy to pick up and play, and fun to waste 20 or so minutes on.

It is worthy to note that you can create your own team but only with the players you already have. The down side, and drawback, is that you can only use your team in 2 player mode.

Graphics & Sound
Once again, bare bones. The graphics are very simple. One color to each player/team and the fields have next to no detail. The sound is also simple and repetitive. There isn't much more to say.

Replay Value
After unlocking the teams and creating your own team, the only thing to do is go back and play games. It's nice if you're just looking to kill some time to have fun but the appeal isn't very long-lasting.

Overall there are better baseball games for the Neo Geo Pocket Color, namely Dynamite Slugger. But if you're just looking for a less expensive time killer in the form of a baseball game, Baseball Stars Color isn't a total loss.
