Golden Axe (Bandai WonderSwan Color)

The Genesis classic gets ported to the Wonderswan Color. But is it the same?

You take on the role of one of three warriors in order to stop the evil Death Adder, who has stolen the mighty Golden Axe and is causing havoc across the land. You can choose from Ax Battler, whose mother was killed by Death Adder; Tyris Flare, whose parents were killed by Death Adder; or Gilius Thunderhead , whose brother has been killed by Death Adder.

Very nice. While not as nice as the arcade version, they are remarkably close to the Genesis version albiet compressed a little to fit on the portable's screen. Everything is very detailed with nice animation ot go with it.

After you choose your character, you travel around the fictional midevil world in a Streets of Rage style side-scrolling beat-em-up. The nice thing about this is that you can save your game and resume whenever you like. Aside from the single player adventure, you can link up with another Wonderswan Color and play either two player co-op or head to head battles. Control works well with the attacking and casting spells, but its kinda hard to move the character with the D-Pad when you're lining up to attack an enemy.

Its good. It sounds just like the Genesis version with sound effects and music. However some sound effects are missing, like when a person dies.

Replay Value
It's like any other beat-em-up. After you beat it, you can only go back and beat it again. But the multi-player does save it a little and being able to pick any character in the game to play head to head battles is fun.

This game was also released with Sonic the Hedghog and Ecco on the GBA. But if you're looking for a good game to import or add to your game collection, Golden Axe for the Wonderswan Color is a great addition.
