Hey all. This is the thread for the GTZ/JPN fantasy wrestling group. If you're interested in joining, we're looking for people who will be active, fun, and social so if that's you, let me know and I'll add you next time there's an opening. Right now we're in the off-season too so it might be possible now. Here's a quick overview of how it works. Like fantasy football, there's a bunch of people in a league, we do a draft where you pick wrestlers from an available pool comprised of both rosters to be on your team, and throughout the season on televised shows like raw, sd, and ppvs, your guys get points for doing good (winning matches, attacking people, doing interviews, winning or defending titles, putting people through tables, etc). I can send you the complete list of what you get points for later if you're joining. Teams are ranked based on how many points your guys have gotten you. Guys who aren't currently on anyone's team are in the free agent pool and you can drop your guys every week to pick up free agents, trades between you and other owners also possible through the commisioner. If you have any questions, let me know. I hope some of you give it a try and get into it as it adds a lot to watching raw and SD every week in my opinion.
this just makes me love her more. she's injured for 6-8 weeks unfortunetly, apparently broke her collarbone during the takeover match and still finished, boss. The good thing is that she'll be cleared to wrestle by next takeover barring any setbacks.
EDIT: Ugh. Why must WWE destroy everything beautiful.
Oh man, and I am hideously out of the loop. Been so focused on football. Ok will get myself up to speed soon.
nah you can set the draft order whenever you're ready, it SHOULDN'T reset*
*but sometime does.
but it's usually fine if you do it close to the draft and we're only a few days away so anytime now should be good
I hear king kong bundy can take his place now and no one would notice.
Indeed, hope everyone can make it too
10 minutes! I messaged everyone earlier so hopefully everyone remembers and is there
Good luck everyone!
it would make sense. 9 / 9 @ 9. "9-9-9"
yeah, jd's first draft was.... interesting. Veeeeery interesting lol. And look at JD now. dropping people for final ppv, stealth picking up people immediately post draft, and the picks themselves. he's come a long way!
both are available. on the league page, go to whoever you wanna drop like dawson, click trade next to their name and it'll give you available free agents. kendrick and tye are both there
these are free agent pickups btw because trade window is open usually from wednesday - sunday. you can stil try to pickup a free agent on the other days but it'll be pending and once the trade window opens, it goes in order of lowest current placing team in the league's first priority pickup, then second to last, and so on. You can also do team-to-team trades. There's no interface for it yet but if you trade with someone, both of you just need to tell me and i'll change it.
I know nothing about having a bad first draft ever.
Please ignore the fact that I had Jericho and Christian when they were not active.
yup, did. think he'll be switching him out soon
One thing I haven't done here in the past but I always do is my little mini-write-up with my take on each team after the draft. I always pick the strongest team, weakest team, and give quick thoughts on all. I hadn't done it here before because even though it's just my opinion and i'm very diplomatic, I didn't want to risk anyone being offended. But we've all played together long enough that I don't think anyone would have a problem with it. Also remember, I don't actually watch wwe these days so I might be very misinformed or off the mark on certain things. Above all, remember it's just my opinion and only for fun! No offense intended anywhere. So without further ado, here's my thoughts on each team:
Chezi: Was surprised by his #1 pick of AJ. But if he does the us open challenge even most weeks, he'll be worth the #1 pick and then some. Imagine title defense points every week. Yeah so there's a risk but there's also a potentially huge reward. I was thinking in very similar lines for most the rest of his team so overall I think it's a very strong team.
Jaww: Autodrafted but set his order. Personally I'm not blown away by his team though for what it's worth, I don't think I was last season and look how that turned out! Still, joe is hurt, not sure when he'll be back. Not sure if brock is worth the 4th round pickup but guess we'll see. Also not sure of his schedule. One thing I heard was he'll be around for most these ppv's, another was after no mercy he'll be gone until rumble. Dunno. Never underestimate possibility of putting people through tables and stuff either. Karl Anderson seems like a weak pick but honestly, pickings were very slim at that point that I don't really think it was. Natalya at #42 is a steal if she gets some title defenses in.
Me: I like my team overall but not that into my tamina pick. Also, alexa in the 2nd is kinda risky since there's a very good shot that she loses the title to nia and soon. Also, with cedric, I'm kinda banking that A) Enzo doesn't win the title and b) cedric gets elevated to #1 contender and hopefully wins the title this season. I do think that's where this is going but I could see that being next season with enzo and gran metalik going first. Also not sure exactly what's going on with the hardies so matt could be good for a 4th round pick or could disappoint. Braun was actually my #1 pick so getting him at 3 is great. Loving the shelton pick. Overall more happy than not with my team but there's a lot of risk here.
Mark: I'm gonna be laughing at him for months that he's got jinder AND corbin ^_^ But no, they're good picks for sure. Corbin might even win the US title. Big show's injured so sure he's gonna switch him for someone soon. Picking up cena... well, I think he was really out of ideas at that point. I don't THINK cena is gonna be around for long but couldn't find out anything big. If he sticks around then jeez what an amazing pick for the 5th round. 2nd season in a row he picked up jeff hardy and jimmy uso but he held back from getting their partners this time around. Overall, I'd put this team around the middle. It's got a strong top, a solid middle, and an extremely iffy bottom. Just like his women.
JD: Autodrafted 1st pick which I'm sure he regrets but Tozawa's not a bad pick, he was shockingly #2 top scorer last season! Still, he's unlikely to do it again so bad for first round. He made up for it after that though. Not sure people have noticed how much better and craftier JD has gotten throughout the seasons but I sure have. Honestly his first draft will never be touched in terms of what not to do and I think he'd agree with that but now he's one of the smartest dudes int he league at this. Trading a somewhat crappy 6th round pick (like most of us had) for ASUKA right after the draft is insane and elevates his team bigtime. He was on top of things and picked up bobby roode in the second round when most wouldn't have noticed him at the bottom of the list. I hate him for that btw cause I don't think mark would have noticed which meant if he missed him, I woulda gotten roode. Getting roode was very rude sir. Charlotte has a lot of potential in the 3rd, I gotta think she's gonna be a cornerstone of the division very soon, surprised it's taken this long infact. Elias and Gallagher always seem to get work too so overall, this is a team that's very strong and wasn't gonna let a bad first pick stop it from tearing up shop.
Gee: Speaking of regret, he autodrafted the first two picks and DID change his draft order luckily but messed it up and somehow wound up with tony nese shockingly high on his list. So rough first two picks, but still, they ARE using tony nese very often and big e could very well win the titles back so they're not bad, just a little high for their value. Can absolutely come back from this though and gran metalik is a very smart way to bounce back since I figure him or cedric are next neville feud after enzo. He got Kofi too so a lot of his hopes are pinned on the new day winning the titles back and being dominant on SD. Curious where naomi's place on SD is now that she lost the title but her GLOW act is still very hot and just got those glow titles so i gotta imagine she's still gonna get plenty of work. Not sure about what's going on with Ziggler and not expecting much so that one seems weak to me. We'll see though.
Justin: Me and justin are destined to keep butting heads I see. First, Reigns as the 7th pick is very surprising to me, he's a guy that can very easily be #1 this season (every season really). Neville at #14 is the biggest steal of the draft! Neville's been top 5 the last 2 or 3 seasons and he didn't get picked up until #14?? He's still the cornerstone of the CW division so enjoy the ride ya jerk. Sasha has potential since I think she's still the top woman face on raw. Xavier not sure about but I never am. Bayley VERY not sure about but couldn't find any info on when she's expected back from injury. If it's soon then that pretty much seals the deal that this is the strongest team. If she misses the season, it's probably not THE strongest but it's definetly one of the top 3. And I told you already, I'm gonna be mad about you picking up gable in the 6th for awhile.
Link: Like owens and Nia Jax in the 2nd is strong since like I said before, I think she's gonna win the title and be dominant. Bray is also one of those picks that I'm happy not to have but he's not usually a bad scorer. There will be definetly be some weeks where you hate him though since he just keeps coming out and doing promos and not wrestling. Still, there's been less of that lately. Swann and Zayn always seem to get a lot of work. Isn't wilder injured though?
Chris: Miz at 9 might be a little high but might not be either. Cesaro at 12 is high too but sheamus at 29 sure isn't. Orton at #32, wow! Becky seems weak. Emma maybe? Honestly, when we were mid-draft, I said he was killing it and was really thinking he had the strongest team but when I look at it now, I don't see it the same way.
Tad: Welcome to the league! Autodrafted first pick but got rollins which I think is a nice pick so did no damage to him anyway. Carmella at 2 seems a bit high but still a nice pick, I definetly see her cashing in MITB and winning the title soon. Unfortunetly he got one of the revival guys at #3 and don't think they'll be back soon. Replaced him with tye dillinger after the draft though which is solid. Mustafa Ali seemed to get used alot on 205 live back in the day, really dont know if that's still the case but if so, he's gonna be a nice solid mid-round pick. Shane at 5 could be real smart, he likely has stip points coming soon, points for putting people through tables, maybe foreign objects etc. Rusev as his 6th round pick, overall #51, is a great steal. Be happy tad, we all make mistakes on our first draft but you did good!
Starts monday and runs until survivor series
Posted complete thoughts on every team
I'm not gonna do weakest team, but I will say what I think the strongest team is. And I hate to say it. But IMO strongest team is Justin. Runners-up: myself, chezi, and JD
Yup, you definetly did. My advice is to think of it like this. The draft is the biggest day of the season but it's only 1/3 the formula to get a winning team IMO. Another 1/3 of that is luck, injury, vince mcmahon's random mood swings, etc. You can't control that stuff, you can only hope to predict it. The other 1/3 is managing your team throughout the season through free agent pickups and trades. Perfect example last season, I think jaww had it won but he wasn't making moves the last few weeks and he finished 2nd when other people took full advantage of swings and trends. Keep an eye on the product, even if you don't watch, it's easy with skimming results, talking about it with people, and keeping an ear to the ground when news leaks. They upload everything to youtube nowadays too so if you did wanna watch but don't have enough time in the week to watch all WWE TV, those are nice bite-sized chunks. So keep an eye on things and always be on the lookout for opportunities to improve your team. Add people who are getting pushed or you think will be getting pushed soon, get rid of people when they aren't getting the job done, seem to be getting depushed, and of course get injured. Keep an eye out for new talents being brought to TV but weigh the risk/reward situation in your head. And team-to-team trades are rare but if you and another owner think you can help each other out, that's great for both of you! Generally speaking, if you are one of the top teams at the end of the season, it's very likely that it looks very different from the team you have right now.
More advice: Never draft Miz if you are Jersiah.
Thanks for the kind words. As for the tournament idea, to be honest, I'm not totally sure I get it. I get the gist, just not exactly the specifics. The site doesn't have a feature like that and I think people like the current format so it would have to be something we do on the side for fun but I wouldn't mind seeing who would win if it was tournament style at the end like you said.
oh really? wow nice! nodq has been my main news site for a LONG time, well over a decade now. So I probably read a ton of things you wrote without even realizing it. My friends and wife have actually been trying to talk me into doing a wrestling podcast for months now as I'm a big fan of the wrestling observer radio, not even as news just in terms of it being entertaining. I've said before that I would be very interested in doing something like that and there's definetly entertainment to be had with goofy chezi, mark, and another friend greg who I disagree with on a weekly basis on just about everything so he's a great natural foil to me. Unfortunetly, while it would be fun, I have serious doubts that a large audience would care what a couple of random wrestling fans think about stuff so I can't imagine the market or financial feasibility necessary. If I were younger and single, I wouldn't care, for example I used to have a newsletter for years that I grew from scratch to 900 members and I did that just for fun. But now, if I were to try to put serious time into something and invest like that, it would need to pay the bills too and I just don't see that happening.
Think strowman is winning the title? I can see it too but I think I'm still expecting brock to win. Originally was thinking they should do a series with strowman as beating him in a one-off like joe would be a terrible idea but again, not sure what his schedule is.
Yeah, I'll give the podcast idea some thought. You helping out would certainly make things easier. Something to ponder for sure.
I agree with you about strowman 100%. Brock Vs. Braun feels like so much bigger a match than Brock Vs. Reigns II so kinda wish they saved it for mania. But if the plan is to put the title on braun, no complains here, as you said, he's what they need. The age of the big man is back and braun has come a LONG way. He's gotten very solid in his role and he's extremely entertaining. I still think brock will win but I hope I'm wrong.
wow already? maaaaaan what a homerun for you getting her for free
Nah they get points for 205 live as well
Ali was on 205 Live last night but the way points are given is weird at times. Even if you are on screen doesn't mean you get points, which sucks
From what I've heard, he's injured and isn't expected back until sometime in October. That's just what I've heard from friends though, I haven't actually looked into it personally, I'm not even sure when or how he got hurt in the first place.
I figured you knew that, that's why I was so surprised when Joe went THAT early in the draft. He hasn't been on TV since the Raw after SummerSlam in that tag match with The Miz vs Reigns and Cena
Niceeee. I used to live in japan so that brings back all kinds of awesome memories. Wish we had stuff like that stateside, would put gamestop to shame.
Yup. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen but.... someone's salty!
> I missed Smackdown, how'd I wind up getting 30+ points on Rusev?
Look at results he beat orton in 10 seconds
Curse that no contest result for AJ vs. Corbin! That would have been some nice points.
