So, for other folks who watch stupid superhero stuff, Rank! Those! Stupid! Batman movies!!! I don't expect everyone to have seen all the ones on my list but if you've seen any, share your lists in the thread. Or don't, jerk.

GTZ's favorite is Batman Begins. This is indisputable.

1. The Dark Knight
image
Classic. Iconic Joker, great adaptation of Two-Face. Batman's mythos in the Nolan trilogy took its most interesting turn with the ending with Batman's metaphorical sacrifice. It was the ultimate grounded approach at a Batman movie, finding perfect ways to integrate those comic book moments.

2. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
image
The only animated Batman movie to get a theatrical release is still one of the best. I'm huge into Batman: The Animated Series, and this movie is one of the best "entires" in that series and just one of the best takes on Batman in general.

3. Batman Returns
image
Completely off nostalgia alone. This was among my favorite movies as a kid and remains a favorite Christmas movie. Michael Keaton had great nuance, especially as Bruce Wayne. Danny DeVito's Penguin was as memorable as it was gross. It wasn't a particularly great movie and it hasn't aged well, but I'll always love it.

4. Batman Begins
image
Really dug the subtle, grounded approach of this movie - it was easily the most grounded of the Nolan movies. I'm a big fan of Ra's Al Ghul and, while I would have liked a legitimately immortal take on the character, Liam Neeson's man-in-the-shadows-creating-a-myth version was great for this universe.

5. Batman (1989)
http://www.therobotspajamas.com/wp-content/uploads...
Another classic, the logo to this movie is etched into my nostalgia goggles for all-time. Nicholson's Joker is a legend at this point, and again, Keaton was fun as a straight-faced Batman.

6. The LEGO Batman Movie
image
Will Arnett as the voice of Batman rules. All the cameos, both voice-wise and character-wise, were great. It was a fun spoof on Batman movies in general, with things kids and adults could both like.

7. The Dark Knight Rises
image
Great way to top off the Nolan trilogy, but a little lesser than the other movies. I love Tom Hardy's Bane - even the voice. He came off sinister and brutal, and it was great to see Nolan so closely adapt the Knightfall stuff from the comics. That gets points alone. It did go a little long, and the third act was a little bit of a let down, but still a fun time.

8. Batman: The Movie
image
Like the LEGO Batman movie, this one is great for a few laughs. Adam West's dumbed-down "comic story" Batman was so much fun, and the colors of this movie were great. And then there's the bomb scene, which may be my single favorite Batman scene ever just for the sheer absurdity.

9. Man of Tomorrow (BvS fan edit)
image
You'll see where BvS actually ends up, but I dug this fan edit as it seamlessly meshed both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. While a lot of the problems were still there (especially in the majority BvS section), I was in awe at how well the edits to make one epic Batman/Superman movie worked out - as well as the edits that did fix plot points.

10. Batman Forever
image
Underrated in my opinion, because a lot of people would rank this as far down as Batman & Robin which is an insult. This wasn't a great movie by any means, and Tommy Lee Jones' awful take on Two-Face was just a poor-man's Batman 89' Joker, but Jim Carrey as Riddler was cool and the Robin origin scene was fun. The ending was awful, Robin being a grown ass man was awful, and Kilmer's Batman was forgettable. But I still thought the movie was okay.

11. 1940's Batman serials
image
I'll just count both of the serialized theater series in one spot since they're decently obscure nowadays. These episodes were on TV on Christmas day when I was a kid, and I remember watching it from my Batman: The Animated Series tent that I got that morning. Fun to re-watch every now and then for that alone, but it's real awkward seeing some of the subject matter.

14. Batman & Robin
image
If this list were ranked for comedy, this may beat out both Batman '66 AND the LEGO Batman movie. But alas. Clooney was phoning it in completely, Robin was still an adult, Batgirl was cringey, Mr. Freeze was gosh darn perfect and the Poison Ivy/Bane duo were the worst.

13. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Tomorrow
image
This movie was awful. Affleck's Batman was just about the only thing I dug about it. But just the performance and look itself. The writing for Batman, besides Bruce Wayne's initial hesitance toward Superman, was pretty awful. Having him climb on a ceiling the first time we see him, his whole Martha schtick, his willingness to main (even if it was fun to watch).

14. Suicide Squad
image
Does this movie count? Mostly Batman villains, the Joker/Harley Quinn combo and a short Batman cameo. I'll count it, but the movie sucks so this entry pretty much just exists to reiterate that.

1. Anything with Phil Hartman
2. Anything with Christopher Walken
3. Anything 90's with Alec Baldwin
4. Wayne's World
5. Tie between "you liekda sauce, "lay off me I'm starving," and "Da Bears."

Honestly, for me, I find very little outside the 90's to be funny. It's strange. It must be some nostalgia thing. I mean, I love Steve Martin, Dan Ackroyd, and Chevy Chase, but I don't find most of the 70's stuff I've watched that funny. The 80's was better but still hit and miss. Aside from Bill Hader, I've barely liked anything post-2000's aside from a skit here and there (which still add up to several).

SNL has def been through some golden years and some lesser years, but its definitely given birth to some classics that transcended the show. loved that period in the 90s and ferrel and sandler and tracy morgan, cheri oteri and molly shannon were on there.

cowbell
waynes world
the blues brothers and lonely island (not really a skit i guess, i suppose those are more like the musical shorts or whatever)
sprockets
spartan spirts
roxbury guys
schweddy balls
wild and crazy guys
most of the stuff by farley and spade

and that one about the VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER

Literally anything with Chris Farley in it. That guy was a legend, and was taken way way to soon!

Matt Foley Motivational Speaker is still one of the funniest segments in SNL history (in my opinion obviously). The first one is obviously the best, but his slapstick humor was hilarious in all of them. Defined his career (for better or for worse).

Debbie Downer at DW is funny as hell, but I think I only laugh as much as I do because the cast keeps breaking. All of the other Debbie Downer bits are average.

Here's my list:

1. Matt Foley (the first one with Christina Applegate hosting)
2. Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood (Eddie Murphy at his finest)
3. Tina Fey as Sarah Palin being interviewed by Katie Couric played by Amy Poehler
4. Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer
5. Chippendale Auditions (Farley and Patrick Swayze)

If I was listing my favorite cast members, which would be really hard to do, it would look something like this:

1. Chris Farley
2. Eddie Murphy
3. Kate McKinnon
4. Bill Hader
5. Dana Carvey
6. Adam Sandler
7. Will Ferrell
8. Mike Myers
9. Tina Fey
10. Amy Poehler
HM - Norm MacDonald was the absolute best Weekend Update host, but he didn't do too much else that was all that great.

I also need to mention Che and Jost. They are really funny together on Weekend Update.

Also, I know my list is seriously lacking pre 1985. I know Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, John Belushi, and Gilda Radner were all amazing, but that was before the time I watched, so they don't compare to my top 10 in my mind.

I feel like Norm's style of comedy wasn't very well-suited for most of SNL, but yeah he was definitely the best Weekend Update host.

New topic yall. With 3D All-Stars and Mario's 35th Anniversary this year, suppose it makes sense to...... Rank the 3D Mario Games!! (That you've played.) Not counting "New" Super Mario Bros series.... I think most folks consider that "2.5D" due to the 2D backgrounds.

Mine is probably controversial but whatev, going best-to-worst:

1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Super Mario Sunshine
3. Super Mario 64
4. Super Mario Galaxy 2
5. Super Mario Odyssey
6. Super Mario 3D World

Have never played 3D Land, never had a 3DS.

Explanations:

I hated the forced motion controls of the Wii, but Galaxy was such a good game that those controls seemed completely warranted. Easily the best usage of the motion controls. I have wildly nostalgic memories of 64, but I also have wildly nostalgic memories of Sunshine and the Gamecube-era was my prime "coming of age" years where as N64 was still firmly in the ol' childhood, so Sunshine barely squeaks out 64. I still remember getting to the Pianta village level and just feeling... "cozy"? I dunno, I liked how the NPCs seemed like actual NPCs for whatever reason. Sunshine also has my favorite 3D Mario levels, the "Secret of" levels where FLUUD is taken away and it's just straight unforgiving platforming.

Galaxy 2 is still incredible, but the nostalgia isn't there like it is with the top 3, I didn't like the hub world as much as the first Galaxy, and it just seemed like an extension of Galaxy when I first played it. Interested to give it another go nowadays, maybe I'll appreciate it more.

My feelings about Odyssey are well-known, it was way too easy, the platforming seemed to take a backseat for open world exploration (which isn't something I come to a Mario game for), and some of the worlds and characters (New Donk City, the Dark Souls-style world, the T-Rex, etc) seemed mega anti-Mario and out of place. Still, Odyssey was more memorable than 3D World imo (the 2D bits definitely helped that out). As cool as the idea for 3D World is, I really feel like it took the NSMB route of just going through the normal "NSMB" motions but with more camera angles.

None of these games are bad, but the top 3 (and the 4th honestly) are the ones I can play to no end.

1. Galaxy 2
2. Galaxy
3. 3d World
4. Sunshine
5. Odyssey
6. 3d Land
7. 64

I hate 64. The camera sucks and it felt so empty. 3d Land was forgettable, and I didn't care much for their focus on the "3d jumps". Odyssey was meh for a lot of the reasons Jaw said. Sunshine gets bumped up above Odyssey due to the levels without FLUDD, those were platforming goodness. 1-3 Are the only 3d Mario games I would call great. Honestly the series was dead to me until Galaxy came out. I only bought it cause I was killing time at a Gamestop and tried the demo.
I'd have to replay 1-3 to get the true order, but going off memory that's my order.

This is gonna be hard...

1) Super Mario Odyssey - Part of the reason I love this game so much is because me and my kids all played through it at the same time (taking turns). It's a really great memory of mine. It's not just that though, it's an amazing game. The graphics are beautiful, the music was great, the worlds are so fun to explore, and the controls are amazing. I do wish it has been harder, but it does have a fair amount of more challenging sections later in the game that most people seem to ignore. Oh yeah, the mini-games and races were a lot of fun to compete in.

2) Super Mario 3D World - This game also holds a special place in my heart, it was the first game my daughter really got into and played with me. We played through it multiple times, even had an account where we beat every level with every character (except Champions Road), and got every gold flagpole. I don't necessarily like the more linear approach of this game MORE than the more open styles, I just like both and hope they continue to make both. This game doesn't get enough credit for being one of the more challenging Mario games, maybe the most. Not just Champion's Road at the end, but most of the star/mushroom/flower levels are pretty challenging. Also, the soundtrack is fantastic.

3) Super Mario Galaxy - I tried this game once a few years after it came out but for whatever reason, couldn't get into it. Gave it another chance before Odyssey and ended up loving it. So many great levels and great variance of challenges. Also, an amazing soundtrack.

4) Super Mario Galaxy 2 - I feel like this game is probably a bit better than the first. But, I played it RIGHT after Galaxy 1 and I think I was a bit burnt out. I should have waited longer between the two.

1-4 are all extremely close, and were hard to rank any over the others. It's a steep drop off to the next 3.

5) Super Mario 3D Land - This game was ok, but 3D World improved nearly every aspect of it.

6) Super Mario 64 - I loved this game back in the day, but it hasn't aged well. Even back then, the controls and camera were super frustrating, and they stand out far worse now. I'd love to see a new Mario game similar to the style of this one, but with Odyssey controls, that would be amazing.

7) Super Mario Sunshine - I've tried this game a couple different times now and can't get into it. The controls and platforming are just so frustrating. If I had played it when it first came out, following up SM64, I probably would have liked it. But going back to it many years later, it just didn't age well.

1. Super Mario 64 - Nostolgia and timing are a huge factor. While the game hasn't aged as well as I'd like to admit, it was revolutionary, and paved the 3D platforming genre.
2. Super Mario Odyssey - Mind blowingly good game! Tons I would like changed, but I don't believe in the concept of a perfect game.
3. Super Mario Galaxy - I wasn't sold on this one until I played it. Very linear gameplay, but I loved the hub world.
4. Super Mario Galaxy 2 - More of the same, with added bonuses. The linear map was a downfall for me, and the added Yoshi parts didn't do a whole lot for me.
5. Super Mario 64 DS - I'm counting this, and I'm not putting it at the bottom. I have fond memories playing this back in 04. This version's bonus stars and different playable characters make it worth playing on it's own. It's not a "better" version, but it's a reimagining.
6. Super Mario 3D Land - Was another one of those games that came at a good time. Was very good as a one off 3DS title, at launch. Still holds up as a good handheld game.
7. Super Mario Sunshine - Yeah it's different, and second last on my list, but fudge it. I did enjoy this as a kid, and look forward to my Switch replay.
8. Super Mario 3D World - Everything from the empty environments, generic "Mario" artstyle, and slow feeling gameplay, made this my least favorite 3D Mario title. I'm looking forward to trying the Switch port, as the new Bowser's Fury and speed adjustments might increase my thoughts.

Honorable Mention: Wario World - What? It's a good game... WAHHH

Galaxy 1
Galaxy 2
I guess Sunshine, didn't get into that much
64 really didn't care for it at the time, have tried it a time or 2 since and not crazy about it still.
Didn't own a 3DS, nor Wii U or Switch yet.

Mario 64 seems especially embarrassing. I had a friend that owned it and maybe if you put all the time together it's more then 20-minutes, but I have zero nostalgia for the game. At that time we were playing a lot more multiplayer games like 1080 Snowboarding, Goldeneye, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, and Mario Kart 64. The games I played when not with friends were the two Zelda games, mostly Ocarina of Time. I didn't really play much during the GameCube era and even today I use my GameCube mostly to play Game Boy Advance games. Then with the Wii it was back to multiplayer games. We'd play Guitar Hero, Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros, and Wii Sports. Mario 3D Word seems a lot like New Super Mario Bros in that you can all play together, so that's the game we've played the most.

No order. I'm going to pick random ones I like off the top of my head and not like all-time amazing quotes or anything (although there may be some of those in here)

1. "Wolfman's got nards! - The Monster Squad

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BX6KrC-PHcQ

2. "When you stand before God, you cannot say, "But I was told by others to do thus." Or that, "Virtue was not convenient at the time." This will not suffice." - Kingdom of Heaven

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=n_JfUsCJK_4

3. "For Frodo" - Lord of the Rings trilogy (honestly, I could have chosen 10 just from these movies, easily)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ufhcNPXD9Hc

4. "I have crossed oceans of time to find you" - Dracula (hear me out, yes, this movie had its cheesy moments, but Gary Oldman was amazing)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=l8pZfdv3BWg

5. Pancakewhich - I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (way too long to post the whole thing)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iol4EJE-Fws

6. Shindler's speech from the end the film - Schindler's List

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz9_IEHM7Go

7. "Wanting people to listen, you can't just tap them on the shoulder anymore. You have to hit them with a sledgehammer, and then you'll notice you've got their strict attention." - Seven (I couldn't find a video of the actual quote, but here's part of the same scene)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8vq_k0yqq88

8. "As zombies began to outnumber humans, well that's when you had to cut all emotional ties. If the girls in your neigborhood are now fudgeed up little monsters, well maybe it's time to stop driving car pool." - Zombieland

I skipped a Halloween rank topic because we did mega rankings for the past 2 years, but usually for Thanksgiving we do food-related rankings.

THIS year we're doing Top 5 (or 10) Thanksgiving Specials. I feel like Thanksgiving time doesn't get the same attention Halloween or Christmas does as far as specials or themed movies go. So just post which Thanksgiving-related TV episodes or movies you like to try to squeak in every year.

1. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving My all-time favorite Thanksgiving special. I sorta hate the Thanksgiving dinner they eat haha, but the animation in this Peanuts special is probably my favorite out of all the primary holiday specials. And it's just such a simple "turn off your brain" cartoon, I love it.
2. Friends - The One With the Football Honestly a really fun episode of a now-dated but still really fun sitcom. I love getting a look into these characters' lives as they try to balance a Thanksgiving dinner with a high-stakes football game in the park. Also prob my favorite episode of the entire show.
3. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - The Gang Squashes Their Beefs Like the Christmas special, this episode is just chaotic and ridiculous. That's this series summed up regardless. Just so much fun.
4. South Park - Black Friday I'll count the entire 3-part arc for this spot. A fun Game of Thrones parody that plays off the Black Friday craze taking advantage of Thanksgiving's holiday bump.
5. South Park - Starvin' Marvin Whatev gotta include this one. I love Black Friday but Starvin' Marvin is a legitimately iconic (if not super problematic and edgy) episode of South Park. But that's the point of the show and I crack up at this episode anytime I watch it.
6. Hey Arnold! - Arnold's Thanksgiving Such an underrated special and a really touching one. Loved seeing Arnold and Helga bond and seeing their teacher's life outside of the school was sort of heartbreaking but also very satisfying, narrative-wise.
7. Cheers - Thanksgiving Orphans This show is perfect sitcom. If there's one show with a laugh track I default to (that isn't classic 90s Nickelodeon), it's this one. Great food fight scene in this episode, especially with the "appearance" of Norm's wife Vera.
8. The Wonder Years - The Ties That Bind Just a classic story, and an incredible representation of life around this series' time period. The "nuclear family" wasn't always all it was cracked up to be and this show proved that time and time again, but especially in this episode. Classic.
9. This is America, Charlie Brown - The Mayflower Voyagers As is the case with most adaptations of this time period... this one is wildly inaccurate and flies in the face of actual history, opting instead for the US textbook version of events. Still, I love the Peanuts and this was a childhood favorite. Not as good as my #1 but still fun enough.
10. The Office - WUPHF.com This episode isn't 100% a "Thanksgiving" episode which is why it's my number 10 - but it does take place around that holiday and so I'll count it. It's one that I love to watch around this time of year due to Dwight's hay festival. Shows one of the best characters of the series at his all-time most petty, but also all-time funniest.

OKAY POST YOURS if you have any...

...also any suggestions for a Christmas ranking topic? I've done a mega-thread for Christmas the past 2 years (movies, specials, books, gifts, etc etc) so I have no idea what to do this year other than just repost updated choices for those topics.

3) HIMYM: Slapsgiving...
4) Brooklyn 99: All the Thanksgiving episodes are funny
5) Community: Cooperative Escapism in Family Relations - Jeff reunites with his dad, everyone else goes to Shirleys and hides in the garage.

I don't really know of too many Thanksgiving special shows. I've always liked Everybody Loves Raymond, and the Thanksgiving episode where Amy's parents kill the bird is a really good one. The only Thanksgiving movie I can really think of is Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. That one is yearly viewing in my house.

Boy do I not like Charlie Brown. Is it supposed to be funny? Sad? Both? Never ever liked those specials.

Only Friends comes to mind for Thanksgiving episodes. My wife and I have had a Thanksgiving tradition for years now where we watch through all of them on Thanksgiving night. My top 5 are:

1) The One With the Rumor
2) The One With the Late Thanksgiving
3) The One Where Ross Got High
4) The One With Chandler In A Box
5) The One With All The Thanksgivings

The Middle also has some pretty good Thanksgiving episodes.

Yep, he's surprisingly funny in it.

Not an uncommon opinion at all, most of the holiday specials barely have a plot and aren't as jovial as others. That's what turns some folks off to them, but as a huge Peanuts fan, that's what I like about them (and the other specials/comics). I enjoy that they're mellow and relaxed compared to other cartoons, I love the color palettes used and the gradient sky backgrounds, I enjoy how the kids aren't idealized as constantly-happy, fun-loving characters to the point that the main character is almost always depressed (probably clinically, tbh). They're not funny in an "LOL" way, more of a sarcastic way if that makes sense - which is honestly due to the more "sad" or just indifferent tone that a lot of them have. I dunno, I just find them off-beat and relatable.

They're definitely not for everyone, I totally get why some people dislike them, but for those of us who do, there are few cartoons that we look forward to more during the holidays.

Never liked Charlie Brown Cartoons. Charlie is a fudgein mope and that dog lucy is a horrible person. It was cynical before the whole world got cynical, so in one regard it was ahead of its time but its just felt sad and mean. I didn’t appreciate the early introduction to melancholy from a cartoon.

I just mostly hate all Holiday Specials since I was forced to watch them as a kid. Also, I loathe the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade more than anything.
