Depending on how big of a sale it gets (if it gets one) I would love to have a 2DS XL. Don't play my normal 2DS enough, but that is in part because it is so small. I would love to play the new Metroid on a bigger screen since I haven't played it yet. Also SNES games!

I want to pick up a 4K OLED this year for the Xbox One X. I was going to just buy one now, but I won't really be home from when I get the X until Black Friday so I figured I may as well just wait to buy one and save a few $$$.

Another thing I thought of would be PC parts. Want to build a ~700 dollar build as my first build, so if I could get some deals on parts (mainly the GTX 1060) that would be awesome.

Get her the PC, unlike the Xbox she can use it for real life tasks like homework or learning new skills. Maybe she has huge potential for coding/design/anything, but she'll never discover it on an xbox.

Yah, the Xbox is a crazy $400. Unless there's a really good Black Friday deal on it, I may go with the old Minecraft Xbox bundle that's currently $250 everywhere. I'm guessing it will get a $200 deal. Good thing about video game gifts is that they are a gift for Dad too.

I was 8 when I got a PC. I'm actually pretty impressed that you've got an 8 year old interested in a PC, they're much more deep, interactive and educational, and if she can learn how to put it together and take it apart, keep it up and running and invested in it since it's hers, she's got a real skillset that can get her places later on, maybe get her interested in networking and engineering, very good paying fields to work in even for entry level positions.

I think I'd rather scratch that itch than hand them a dumb ol' video game machine. See what she does with it! If something ever goes to crap, help her fix it up and get thinking about how the parts inside come together and work. Even if she mostly uses it for Minecraft, there's a lot more going on inside that box. I'd stay away from laptops though, those are more consumerist, it-breaks-you-buy-a-new-one stuff.

Does anyone here buy Harbor Freight stuff? I've had some good luck and some bad luck with their products. Like the woodworking clamps I bought - they are not very strong anymore, but are ok for light jobs. Cheap, and didn't last too long. BUT - the $12 angle grinder is a monster and will literally take your face off.

I bought 8 5' wood working clamps when I made 2 large butcher blocks for my kitchen. They were like $9 each or something which was a lot better $30-40 at lowes. They're large butcher block counter tops too as you can see from the CAD drawing, and the clamps worked incredibly well when it came time to gluing them together

image

I also bought a hammer drill for drilling into concrete when I built my fence gate and shed. After over 30 holes drilled it still works like new. Pretty much everything I've bought at HF still work really well. Their gloves fell apart pretty quick though.

yes Pretty sweel. Good to know about the hammer drill. That's something you don't use enough to warrant spending a fortune, but it still needs to work well when you DO need it.

My woodworking clamps were the small plastic kind, not the big ones you have. For people like me, who don't do a TON of work like this, HF is pretty good.
dustin11
Double Gold Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally
* 25-Oct(#42)
Yeah I really like HF because when I need a tool its almost always for a specific project so I will only need to use it once or twice so it doesn't make sense to pay 3x more for it at Lowes or HD. The butcher block is 1.5" thick hard maple and really heavy but the clamps handled it like a champ, I would definitely buy them again if needed. We also bought our Little Giant clone ladder from HF for only $100 and its a very high quality product.

I think they're 18' when unfolded and extended all the way. It was high enough that I could comfortably work on my shed which was 13'-1" at the roof peak. Its durable and locks into place very nicely. I've been happy with it.

Years ago I bought an engine hoist and two engine holders from HF. This was before we had a local store, so they shipped it to me. And it was still an awesome deal for good stuff that worked well. Like, I think I paid only a few hundred bucks for all of it -- including the shipping! (And it was BIG, HEAVY stuff!) yes

I buy HF stuff pretty often. Here's my take on it:

If it's something you're going to use professionally and expect to use very often for years, don't bother. If you're going to use it a few times a month or year, it's perfect.

I recently picked up a Predator Auger from them, knowing the Predator engines are Chinese knockoffs of Honda designs. It runs okay, many of the components are something I don't expect to last but for the price and what I need it to do, it's great. I think I paid $150 for it, when most Augers from respectable brands go for $300-$600.

I typically don't like to buy anything powered with lots of moving parts from HF if I want to have it long term, but if its something I'll just use every once in a while, like my hammer drill, then HF is the perfect place for that.

Indeed -- I would agree with that. It was great for something like an engine lift where it is just a big, metal beast. But I likely wouldn't buy a lot of normal tools from them. yes

I wasn't a big fan of their miter saws either. My Wife's Mom bought one of their Chicago brand saws and I borrowed it to do our molding and the thing wouldn't cut at 45 degree angle, it was more along the lines of 43-44 which was jacking up a lot of my cuts. I returned it to her and bought one from Lowes and it cuts just how I needed it to. Small inaccuracies like that is what I can't deal with in a product but that's the only bad thing I've deal with as far as their products are concerned.

Kind of weak. Costco has an X1S at that same price right now.

I guess you can use the $45 in Kohl's cash to get a game with it though, or spend an extra $10 and get $60 worth of cards and get a recently released game.

Kohls has two fun things to consider. For cloths and other non-doorbuster deals consider ordering online near Black Friday. They will honor those prices if you pick up in store.

Second option, go to Kohls around 4-5 AM. Get past the initial rush, but before everybody else comes back. Works for us every year as my wife likes to go there.

Did Best Buy run any specials on used games last year?

I just signed up for GCU and waiting to use the B2G1 welcome coupon on used games.

Not true. There's a reason clothes aren't doorbusters (for the most part), but keep people coming into the store afterwards.

those are pretty solid prices, if you don't have a 4k and don't care about the pro or x for those features you can get a lot of great gaming in at those prices

I like that new Breath of the Wild Switch game bundle, if I had a Switch and didn't somehow already have Zelda.

Come on PS4 Pro deals! I'd like the Destiny bundle to go on sale. I have no interest in Destiny 2, but I like the white PS4 Pro more than the standard black and weird decal-ed Star Wars version.

Is that a full guide that comes with BotW in that bundle?

Half decent deal on the X1S. You get a hell of a 4k BRD player for that price but its not much lower than you can buy one for right now. I'm going to assume that MS store will have some good deals on X1 games like they typically do because I want to pick up Super Lucky Tales and Wolfenstein 2 to go with my X1X and new TV.

I'm thinking about grabbing a PS4 again just so I can play Persona 5 and Horizon Zero Dawn. With close to a $100 in rewards at Best Buy, I'm really interested to see what their PS4 Black Friday deal will be on consoles.

If you have an eligible Amex card, there's an offer for Best Buy: spend $250 (one or multiple purchases) between now and December 31st, get a $25 statement credit. Not the best offer, but still nice.

Be on the lookout for Costco's ad. I just received what looks like their black Friday deals flyer thing in the mail today so after someone on the internet scans it then it should be available. A few notable things were the X1s for $90 off with an extra controller and 3 months of gamepass and the 1tb PS4 Slim for $100 off. There were a few TVs too but I didn't really get that good of a look at them. These deals will be done in 3 different phases; first is the warehouse and online from 11-9 to 11-16. Phase 2 is warehouse and online from 11-17 onward (to Christmas I assume?). PHase 3 is online from 11-23 and warehouse from 11-24.
