If you feel like you beat a balls hard game and are deserving of this icon, post on here and the community will deem whether you earn it or not.

Lastly, despite the fact that several games fit multiple categories, a particular completion only counts towards one icon. For example: Super Mario World would count towards the Super Mayrio icon, but not the Hoppin' & Boppin' one. I understand this could get a little confusing, but that's how it's gonna be!

It's a new year, but you guys know the drill at this point: you give me your system list, you tell me when you've beaten a game, and I keep track of it. Oh and badges. I never dreamed those would've caught on like they did last year, so expect more of the same in 2021.

In addition to keeping track of the overall leaders in games beaten and systems covered, I'm going to keep track of the former on a monthly basis as well. That way if someone has a particularly prolific 30 day stretch, that number will be immortalized in a separate category and won't be buried under Renaissance2K for all eternity .

That'll do it for this portion and see below for what's actually important, the lists!

Checking off another platform and another game in the LittleBigPlanet franchise, I finished LittleBigPlanet PSVita tonight for the PlayStation Vita.

I hate to be a spoil sport, but the touch controls totally kill this game. Not in the way the waggle made Twilight Princess slightly inconvenient or Sixaxis steering made a handful of racing games touchy... As magnificent as the Vita is/was, you can't move a sentient sack around with normal gamepad controls while you're slapping two sides of a touch-sensitive portable to manipulate his environment. It also doesn't help that the game's touch sensitivity doesn't seem to be dialed in perfectly as the in-game targets don't respond as seamlessly as other parts of the Vita's UI.

Ignoring the dreaded green and blue panels that mean you're going to be poking things, LittleBigPlanet Vita is lodged somewhere between 1 and 2 on the gameplay spectrum. It has 2's spruced-up cutscenes and flirts with some interesting gadgets, but it doesn't turn up the volume enough to be a full jump forward from the original. On the upside, The Unbelievable Otis is really the first LittleBigPlanet supporting character I gave half a damn about, and his "Three Wheel Tracks" level may be my favorite in the entire series, thanks to how much of a blast the titular vehicle is to drive.

After tearing out two big chunks of LittleBigPlanet Karting, it looks like the end of the game - and the entire LittleBigPlanet binge - is in sight, and the curtain will likely fall on Monday. It's been quite the trip. Then, it's back to Final Fantasy XII and Lunar until we have some new Games of the Month on the docket.

I just finished Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. I cleared all the challenges years ago, and I've now completed Classic mode on 9.0 difficulty with every character. Smash Bros. isn't a game you beat in the traditional sense, but given the sheer dedication required to beat its main singleplayer with everyone on the toughest difficulty, I'd call this beaten.

@Antipop Since I've been playing my New 3DS, can you switch all my existing 3DS games over to Nintendo New 3DS? Just leave Nintendo 3DS blank for now--I'll fill it in before long.

Devil May Cry 3 is the best one. I would say just skip 2 lol.

Some games I would recommend: Ar Tonelico 1/2, Atelier Iris 1/2/3, Bujingai The Forsaken City (it's like Devil May Cry, but with Gackt lmao), Chaos Legion, Dark Cloud 1/2, Dragon Quest VIII, Eternal Ring, Extermination, Growlanser Generations, Ico, Kuon, Mana Khemia 1/2, Maximo (both of em), Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast, Radiata Stories, Rogue Galaxy,Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love, Shadow of Destiny, Shadow of Rome, Shadow of the Colossus, Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne/DDS 1/2/Devil Summoner 1/2/Persona 3/4, Shining Force Neo/Exa, Shining Tears, Siren, Suikoden 3/5 (you could play 4 but it's like DMC 2, why), Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Legendia, Valkyrie Profile 2, Wild Arms 3/5 (4 again, is pretty suck).

Some of these probably have outrageous prices now, I'm mostly just recommending them as games, but stuff like Kuon really isn't worth the asking price though it is fantastic. I slanted towards JRPGs since you seem to be into that as well. Growlanser Generations and Mana Khemia 2 get my highest recommendations.

Thanks! I don't have a massive PS2 collection but I've gotten some good games for cheap over the years so I'm trying to play those first. A few of the games you mentioned I do have though like Valkyrie Profile 2, Dark Cloud 2, Shadow of Rome, etc. Mostly I just have inexpensive/crappy titles though. I'm trying to play more PS2 since I found Xenosaga 1-3 for dirt cheap so I kinda feel obligated to play those at a minimum.

Yeah, I should have taken @kommie at his word. I figured he just hates these kind of games, and I generally like them. But oh my god. It is soooo bad.

I'm not sure what my favorite worst part of the game is. The 20 minute movies with no sound that you can't skip, and you have no fudging clue what is going on. Or the horrific combat. Specifically the hit boxes in the combat seeming to be completely random from second to second.

Honestly I was playing The Quiet Man on my computer through Remote Play and fudging around on the internet during the cut scenes cause it's that bad. Also, there's a trophy for beating the game without getting hit and only 5 people have it. Combat is garbage and takes up 40 minutes out of the 2 1/2-3 hours. Combat is garbage cause some enemies can only be killed in certain annoying ways. Also, you can beat it again with dialogue and stuff but it's not worth it. I played it from pure curiosity sake thinking, it can't be that bad.... It is. At least it's only 3 hours though.

Beat a few games in my time away from this thread.

Little Nightmares 2 Microsoft Xbox Series X|S - Loved this game more than the first one, it ironed out some kinks and looks even more amazing. Way more intense sequences as well, and even some light combat areas thrown in for good measure. I admire the game's ability to tell a story without words and if you enjoy puzzle platformers, I cannot recommend the first one and this one enough. One of my recent favorites for sure

The Gardens Between Microsoft Xbox Series X|S - another puzzler, involving playing with time to manipulate the game world to continue on. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would as well, and some of the environment puzzles had me thinking for a few minutes. Easy 1000 achievement too, overall.

Lords of the Fallen Microsoft Xbox Series X|S - played this back in the day but never finished. Saw it on GP and tried it again. Its a Souls clone, but not nearly as finely tuned and a lot cheaper at times. Combat tracking by enemies is kinda nonsense, so dodging can be very hit or miss (quite literally). The armor designs in this game are some of the most metal looking suits I've ever seen though, so kudos to whomever was working on armor designs - From Software needs to hire that/those guys. Not sure if I'm gonna go for all achievements, because map design is another weakness this game has. The level design is kinda awful to me and traversal is a pain once you get a decent ways in. Played it through as cleric, could technically go through again as warrior and rogue but ill save that for another time.

If we counted the getting the Touryst 100% as part of the grown ass man badge, Lords of the Fallen should give me the 2nd one. Not sure if we ever decided on counting the Touryst for sure (I think @Gypsy was down for it) so I will let ya'll be the judge.

23rd overall, 7th of March, 1st Game Boy (is 13th platform)
TMNT2: Back from the Sewers
As a brawler it would count towards the Pile Drivin' badge, but I already have it.

This is just more TMNT goodness for the most part. There were a few sections that were annoying with endlessly spawning mousers and other foes, but overall it wasn't too bad. Super Shredder was the worst boss as I couldn't really sort out where my positioning needed to be or how to avoid taking a hit from him consistently. He was a lot more challenging vs. Krang as the final boss just a little bit further, basically Super Shredder was a mini or mid-stage boss.

I used all 4 turtles across the game as end of level damage would persist, though there was a bonus game to earn some of it back. I used save states as well and that could have been a little of my frustration with S-Shredder as I wanted to keep as much health as possible since I knew he wasn't the final boss. Besides that fight and 1 prior level where I was taking too much damage, I didn't use save states much outside of essentially saving normal progress.

After beating the first GameBoy TMNT title last year, then TMNT4 on SNES earlier this month, and now this game - I might look to beat a few more old school TMNT titles.

I enjoyed this for what it was back in the day. But it is not a great game overall. But oddly it is one of the few souls clones that I actually enjoyed enough to finish. For some reason I can't get into many of the souls clones. At the time when this one came out, it was the first one. Which is probably why I finished it. I think my favorite one though is a small indie one called Ashen. Its fairly short game. And its some what easy in NG until you get close to the end. And then the difficulty spikes up. NG+ is hard as crap.

@Archer its a cool game on its own but it definitely shows some lack of polish. Cleric is a fun class because of the heals, I can avoid using potions most of the time if I time my heals right, and the reflect damage it has also is a nice touch.

So Ashen is good? Been on my radar for awhile but I can't even name one good Souls like clone that is 3D. Although I will try Mortal Shell at some point. The few hours I played of Remant From the Ashes were good though, for a Dark Souls with guns game. It's lacking some Souls stuff though. Hollow Knight and Blasphemous do a good amazing job, but they're 2D Metroidvanias.

I liked Ashen a lot. I even re-bought it recently to play it on PS5. It was a timed xbox exclusive for like 2 years or something. Its on the easier side. I got the 100% on xbox when it came out. It has its own mechanics, it isn't a true souls clone. Just in terms of the combat really. You also have followers who will help you, which is what makes it a bit on the easy side. As you do their side quests they follow you around. They die a lot too though. You also don't level up. Just upgrade weapons and you get bonuses for killing bosses that you can equip (pendants or something like that) to give you boosts to your HP or damage or what ever. And it costs "souls" to do it, even swapping them out. It is probably the best indie souls clone I've played. I liked it much better than any of the 2d ones. There is another one very similar to this one called Decay of Logos. Its harder than Ashen, but I didn't think it was as good as Ashen.

Also Mortal Shell is terrible.

The idea of a 3D Souls being better than Hollow Knight or Blasphemous is quite intriguing. I wasn't sold on the Mortal Shell demo, but I also didn't want to bother fully grasping new mechanics for a demo.

gonna add final fantasy 10 and 10-2 to this list, 10-2 is pretty divisive among the fan base but its a fun game to play. cant recomend radiata stories and ar tonelico enough either. soooo good. Also going to add shadow hearts 1 and 2, 2 is one of the best rpgs for the system, its story does come off part 1 so its worth playing. 3 is a new cast and setting and isnt nearly as good but if you love the first two and just want more of that style you could play it.

also second that suikoden 4 is poop.

I never played those two. I'm not a big fan of metroidvania style games in general. The only two 2d ones I've tried are salt and sanctuary and dead cells. I didn't like either of them. The two you listed I don't think I'd consider a souls clone in 2d. Those seem like pure metroidvania games.

Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant are the best RPG's on the PS2. I plan to re-play them this year. It's been a very long time. From the New World is good too, it's just when it came out the fan base I think expected it to somehow connect to the first 2, and that never happened. It's great in it's own little way though. They are on the expensive side though, if you plan to buy them.

X-2 is the only non MMO FF game I've never played. It just looked terrible, so I never bothered. But I only ever see good things about it from people who played it.

Don't have to rebuy if you just have a crap ton of awesome PS2 games.

Yeah I've heard great things and I had tried it before, but probably wasn't in the right mind set. I intend to get to it, but need to play Ys IX and others still. Pain.

The Shadow Hearts games and Koudelka are some of the few games in my "collection". I never got into buying every game, or every game from X genre sort of thing. Breath of Fire 3 is also in my menial collection.

its somewhat meaningful if youre attached to the characters and world and teh gameplay is fun, its silly though, not nearly as serious as the tone of X

#13 Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon Nintendo DS

A good game but it felt lacking in some areas, but I guess that is to be expected since it's a remake of the first game. Awakening is still my favorite in the fire emblem series.

@tonymack21 thanks for the suggestions. I do have Final Fantasy X. Just so many RPG's to play, gah!

Ya..it almost killed the series.. the next part..fire emblem 12, new mystery of the emblem didnt come out outside of Japan because shadow dragon did poorly. Awakening was the last chance thankfully it blew up.

Shadow dragon is interestingly a remake of a remake. It'd a remake of fire emblem 3 book 1, a snes title which is a remake of fe1. Fe3 book 2 would be remade as new mystery but we didn't get it. You can get a translated rom though, but its not terribly good either compared to other games in ther series.

FFX is up near the top of the hill. It's so good. I can play it today still adore it. Still in my top 3 or 4 games of all time.
