With the PS Store closing on legacy hardware, it got me thinking about what games I need to buy before they become impossible to get for reasonable prices again. This got me going down a rabbit hole and started checking what games I already own and what their selling price is and some shocked me. I used recent ebay sold listing to determine what people are willing to spend on these games. As a modern gamer, I dont have any vintage games that are stupid pricy, but a few of mine are definitely worth a couple pennies

#1. Shantae and the Pirates Curse (Switch) - ~$250-$290
#. Pokemon HeartGold (DS) ~$175
#3. Gravity Rush Remastered (PS4) ~$130-$140
#4. Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii) ~$100
#5. Persona 4 Golden (Vita) ~$100
#6. Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn (Wii) ~$95
#7. Celeste (Switch) ~$90
#8. Jak and Daxter Collection (Vita) ~$90
#9. Amazing Spider-Man (Vita) - ~$70-$75
#10. Pokemon Diamond (DS) ~$75

Honorable mentions that didnt make my top10 most valuable, but definitely games worth more than I thought they'd be

The Simpsons Game (360) ~$45-$50
Ratchet and Clank Collection (PS3) ~$50-$60
Muramasa Rebirth (Vita) ~$50-$60
Ratchet and Clank Quest for Booty (PS3 physical) ~$40-$60

These are just some of the games I own that i bothered to price check. What are some of your games worth?

@BluesideL It's not just video games either.

Just pended with FF to let some rare and/or valuable PS3 games go. Might add more. I'm sure i paid $15 or less for all of these, this panic spike due to the digital store closing is nuts. We both are not sure if it's going to hold, but it's a hell of a bubble right now.

One and done print runs of physical releases - even first party titles - are going to be more common with digital becoming an increasingly popular option.

Xenoblade 2 went up even more after Pyra/Mythra were announced for Smash. Xenoblade 2 was also launched in the first year of the Switch lifecycle so I feel like a lot of people missed it or overlooked it for Zelda BOTW or Mario Odyssey.

All i can say is that as the console industry gets closer to a digital only economy, there's going to need to be either a whole lot more demos or "play the first hour free" type things, or a whole lot of steam-level sales.

$60 for digital is something I would only do for very special games.

Basically, yes. I bought Demon's Souls for $45 used, I highly doubt it reaches that price digitally anytime soon. With Steam it's 2 hours before you can't refund anymore.

The most valuable game I own is definitely Rendering Ranger, which is $600-$700 ish for the cart. I have a few other rare/valuable games but nothing else I own is even close to that. Other thoughts- my fire emblem collection has been shooting up in value, I remember spending $70 on path of radiance and thinking I overspent.

Most retro stuff is extra pricey these days, even compared to as recently as 2019 when I bought a lot of my SNES games

Don't really have anything really of value, probably my 2 most valuable are sealed copies of Mary Skelter: Nightmares (Vita) and Disaster Report 4 (PS4)
I actually bought Mary Skelter 2 on Switch physical just to play the first game because that version came on it as well, since Nightmares shot up before I got a chance to play it, well Mary Skelter 2 has started to do the same lol (guess should have expected it since the physical release was a limited run release. ) I just prefer physical games, guess I will have to buy it digital especially since Finale is coming to the West now lol

Here is my tiny collection... Nothing worth much in it wish I had what I had 17 years ago that was all stolen..

wry smile

This thread makes me cry because (as I've cried about in the past), I owned everything. Every expensive everything ever.

Ok, not quite. But I did have (all CIB mint):

Panzer Saga
Shining Force CD
Crusader of Centy
Contra Hard Corps
Castlevania Bloodlines
Magic Knight Rayearth
Earthbound
Mario RPG
Snatcher Sega CD
Keio Flying Squadron
Lunar SS & EB Sega CD
Lunar SSSC / EBC PS1
FF2, 3
Guardian Heroes
Every 32X Game except Spiderman Web
40+ CIB 3DO games
As many Saturn, Sega CD, Genesis, SNES, 3DO you can imagine (along with N64, PS1 CIB RPG's etc)

Problem is, they were worth 1/10th or 1/20th of their value today when I got rid of them.

Anyhow, enough crying.

Nowadays, just like everyone else I have tons of Limited Run Games LE's, 3D Dot Heroes, Folklore, Afrika, Zaku (Lynx), Gamecube games, Persona 4 Golden Vita Sealed, God Hand PS2, Devil's Third Wii U Sealed, etc. So many that are in the $100-$150 range. I'm holding on to a decent 13 game CIB NGPC collection, as well as a sealed Zelda Wii U system.

But man I still get sad about that old collection :(

Pretty much the only way I want to get old games right now is by dealing other games. Obviously trades are ideal but just selling for absurd funny money and using that to buy works out the same.

Went down the dark path of adding my 46 game PS1 collection to pricecharting. Some values I noticed were still low compared to current eBay, especially for the mint stuff but just for a rough estimate...

Nope, opening up every one of those $20 games. There are 7 more scheduled to come out this year, if I buy them all that's still less than the cost of one mid-tier Saturn game.

As for the screen, I haven't had much in the way issues with it. No motion blur that I've noticed, although the colors do get a bit washed out if you move too far our of the ideal viewing angle (not sure what exactly that issue is called) as for image quality, it does the job, especially since these games aren't exactly made for HD.

Given the price of the system (sells for $80 new with one cart included, or $100 with three carts), I wasn't expecting a switch or vita-quality screen.

So Pricecharting keeps your collection and puts a value on it all? Have you done this with your entire collection, or just PS1? I just started using GameEye on Android (see above), and so far I've listed 26 consoles (just the systems themselves) and I'm up to $6370. I probably have 3x that many systems in my basement waiting to be listed surprise

That was a good question, and I couldn't find the answer anywhere in writing...so I asked on the Reddit group. I was told it pulls from Pricecharting.com.

Pricecharting isn't my FAVORITE place for values, but alot of people DO use it. I find that it doesn't always match up with what I actually see on Ebay and Amazon, but if it's widely used, I guess it's fair enough to go for it.

So yeah, Gameye. It scans barcodes, allows for condition and completeness, sorts into games/systems/toys/etc, adds up the total values for you, and you can even add a loose cart game by taking a pic of it (haven't tried this yet myself, but it's there).

So far, I'm loving it. It's so easy to get going.

Pricecharting is fine, they just can't keep up on values at the moment. I've been selling PS1 stuff on here for more than pricecharting average, which definitely speaks to how it really just isn't capable of keeping up.

yes I had this discussion with someone before - do you feel Pricecharting is LOWER than actual values? I actual feel like it's higher than it should be...but I don't know.

At worst, it's a good starting point for comparing values. When a game is $5 on Pricecharting, you know not to spend $15 on it raspberry

Yeah it's super useful for at a glance pricing. This is just a specific case where values on many old things are going to the moon but their model has to include sales from months ago when at this point those sales could be half the price and are just not a realistic reflection of the current price. They are definitely lower in those instances. That could go the other way too, if a new game is dropping in price, it could be too high. In a normal situation, I have no idea if they lean too high or too low.

I sold most of my more expensive video games several years back. I had CIB copies of games like Earthbound and Chrono Trigger. The two games I kept CIB were A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. I assume they are the most expensive games in my collection currently. If pinball counts then Twilight Zone, which is around $7,500.

Doing loose games will take a bit more effort.
