With the PS Store closing on legacy hardware, it got me thinking about what games I need to buy before they become impossible to get for reasonable prices again. This got me going down a rabbit hole and started checking what games I already own and what their selling price is and some shocked me. I used recent ebay sold listing to determine what people are willing to spend on these games. As a modern gamer, I dont have any vintage games that are stupid pricy, but a few of mine are definitely worth a couple pennies

#1. Shantae and the Pirates Curse (Switch) - ~$250-$290
#. Pokemon HeartGold (DS) ~$175
#3. Gravity Rush Remastered (PS4) ~$130-$140
#4. Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii) ~$100
#5. Persona 4 Golden (Vita) ~$100
#6. Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn (Wii) ~$95
#7. Celeste (Switch) ~$90
#8. Jak and Daxter Collection (Vita) ~$90
#9. Amazing Spider-Man (Vita) - ~$70-$75
#10. Pokemon Diamond (DS) ~$75

Honorable mentions that didnt make my top10 most valuable, but definitely games worth more than I thought they'd be

The Simpsons Game (360) ~$45-$50
Ratchet and Clank Collection (PS3) ~$50-$60
Muramasa Rebirth (Vita) ~$50-$60
Ratchet and Clank Quest for Booty (PS3 physical) ~$40-$60

These are just some of the games I own that i bothered to price check. What are some of your games worth?

I don't have anything too insane either. My most expensive game is Pokemon Emerald (CIB) very good condition which is insane at like $400+ today. I actually kept all my gameboy advance boxes from when I bought them originally and shoved them in a closet. Imagine the shock on my face when I re-discovered them about 2 years ago. I say shocked because I threw out all the other boxes for games I had but for whatever reason I kept my GBA boxes.

Also have:
Pokemon Fire Red CIB
Pokemon Leaf Green CIB
Fire Emblem Sacred Stones CIB
Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI Advance CIB
Pokemon Platinum CIB
Xenosaga 3 PS2 CIB

I don't currently own any games that are really too valuable. Just some Switch games hovering around the $100 mark or higher. (Some of which could easily come down with a reprint.) I just get surprised sometimes when I look at the current value of some games I used to own, such as Solatorobo on DS. (And a lot of other DS games that have really shot up in price.)

I don't regret selling/trading off my older games though. I'm more upset that I didn't jump on the Bitcoin bandwagon sooner lol.

I pisses me off I had a cib copy of White 2 that I sold off. I still have the original case though for some reason. If anyone needs it, hit me up. Doesnt hold much value to me, so if you want an official case/artwork, I'd let it go for cheap

Been organizing recently so still fresh off the top of my head:

Sega Saturn Panzer Dragoon Saga
Sega Saturn Albert Odyssey
Sega Saturn Dragon Force
Sega Saturn Sega Ages
Sega 32X Kolibri
Sega 32X Knuckles Chaotix
Sega CD Lunar 1 and 2
Sega CD Final Fight CD
Super Nintendo Chrono Trigger
Super Nintendo Final Fantasy III

These are probably my top.

Not totally sure since I log my collection on GVN which is pretty unreliable and I don't want to randomly look games up. Suikoden II seems the mostly likely for the top spot. Had a bunch of the now pricey Pokemon games over the years but never liked them enough to keep them. SoulSilver/Heartgold was probably my favorite of those.

I'd have to go through and check, but off the top of my head, one of my most expensive games would have to be my complete copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day. Looks to be fetching anywhere between $200-$300 on eBay as of late.

Off the top of my head, my top 5 would be my CIB copy of Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, my CIB soundtrack version of Solatorobo, my CIB copy of Pokemon Platinum, and my loose copies of Suikoden II and Chrono Trigger. Funny enough ... I know I have not even tried out Solatorobo or Suikoden II.

I'm pretty confident my most valuable game is Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (loose--$185). But not far behind is Chibi-Robo! Plug into Adventure! (in box without manual). That thing's price is going crazy right now! I'd wager mine's worth ~$180.

I've also got 3D Tetris (loose--$110), Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (CIB--$88), and various main-series CIB Pokemon DS games. I've also been gradually assembling Pandora's Tower Limited Edition with an American disc at its heart, so I'd place its value around $100 once it's finished. Honorable mention goes to the loose Fossil Fighters: Champions game I bought on a whim in 2017, which somehow went from $8 to over $60.

I also own Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros., and we know what'll happen to those soon.

I'm excited to see whats gonna happen with Vita games. I'm a big vita collector afterall. P4G is a good example of how game values rollercoaster. When the Vita was still supported, the game was like $20 at stores. Few years later it shoots up to $65-70. Then the game launches on PC and the value drops to like $40-45. Legacy PS Stores are gonna shut down - it shoots back up to $100.

the constant up, down, up, down of that game is gonna make me puke

Yeah so far it seems to be a tie between my complete copies of Conker's Bad Fur Day and Super Smash Bros 64. $200-$300 range. Nothing else I've checked so far comes close. There's some worth $100 or so, but it's just going to be more CIB N64 games.

I don't want to know, and I haven't really checked values of my games in quite a while. Last I knew of, one of my VB games is the most expensive, capable of clearing $1000. I want to say I saw a post stating that Panzer Dragoon Saga is getting up there too? I do know there are enough that a game at "only" $100 would not make my top 20...

This is getting scarier as I look. No sold records for the expensive VB games exist. Virtual Bowling has no listings at all (it was the $1000 game), Virtual Lab has 2 Japanese sellers starting at $1800, SD Gundam is pushing $1000, and even Jack Bros US cart only is averaging $460 sold. Even my CIB Rule of Rose is about $650; I remember picking that up used for $30. Breach & Clear on Vita hasn't really moved much, at least... looks like Ar Nosurge may pass it...

Sealed copy of Ys VIII Collectors edition for PS Vita for me is probably my most valuable game. Vita gen was when I really got into collecting games.

Others:
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna Switch (this really shot up in value for some reason)
All Trails of Cold Steel PS4 games
Silent Hill 2 greatest hits PS2
Clock Tower 3 PS2

Web of Shadows was one of the Spidey games removed on all digital storefronts a few years back, so I'm sure that affects it too.

If I bought games as investments, then I'd probably look at some of my old trades on here and kick myself for letting something go when I did.

The funny thing is, I have actually let go of some expensive games soon after they became available digitally. Most recent was probably Castlevania Bloodlines. My favorite game in the franchise. Don't need a cart of that anymore since it's on the gennymini.

Let me tell you.

First, the hangtabs are in different size plastic case, so they hang together.

Second, when alphabetized, colors are awful(black/red mixed)

Third, since I'm not running for a fullset, alphabetizing is not really needed.

Lastly, these are not their final place as my collection organization is still ongoing.

That pic was taken last week maybe, and they are most likely in a completely different place now.

So alphabetize the black spine games separately from the red spine games.

> Third, since I'm not running for a fullset, alphabetizing is not really needed.

No but it looks like you partly alphabetized, then gave up. That's even worse than no alphabetization

To the untrained eye, perhaps.

If you look closely, the games from left to right, up until SFII are hangtabbed, so since these are staying together, Sonic 3 might as well come after Sonic 2.

After that, then the alphabetization starts over. When we get to the 6-Pak, Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, those gotta stay together because they are cardboard.

Also to note, color coordination is always better in quadruples then switch to triplets. And to break apart the obvious pattern, also insert a random 1 of, in between the pattern.

There's a very meticulous order to my madness.

I just let games go when they get to a point where I'd rather have the money than the game. It's even easier when I can replace them with a digital copy (Cold Steel, Dark Souls) and come out netting money.

PS1/2 and Dreamcast collections are mostly permanent. Other stuff kind of ebbs and flows.

Alphabetizing for the sake of alphabetizing is ugh...uncultured.

Imagine not putting The Adventures of Link and The Legend of Zelda together.

There's definitely some effort put into this, I see Shadow Hearts are all together, in release order(but conveniently, also alphabetized). And Koudelka is conveniently right before Shadow Hearts

Yeah, that describes almost all my anime sold. And games, well... I remember about 10 years ago thinking I did well selling a sealed Path of Radiance for $130. This is why I hate selling games. If I start selling en masse, it means something major happened...

As for the alphabetical talk, I'm mostly alphabetical by system, though there are some inconsistencies. Japanese games are sometimes mixed in together (PS2), but are typically kept separate from the US ones. And a few games do get filed by their colloquial titles, such as Zelda and Zelda 2, and Ironsword is with Wizards & Warriors.

I was fortunate enough to find a FLGS who let go of a Last of Us Post Pandemic Edition sealed for PS3 while running a sale. We asked if the sale included sealed games and he said sure.

Traded in some stuff on hand plus cash to purchase it for 500-600(don't remember specifics). To this day, his sales no longer include anything sealed, but he reminds me often that I was the right person to find his flaw as he wants collectors to enjoy them, not resellers.

We stop at his store once every few months while in the area now.

I've sold off most of my valuable stuff, but I did keep CIB copies of the Zelda games. That would be my guess. In the past I've owned games like Earthbound and Chrono Trigger CIB, but I tend to try to buy cheap and sell fairly without trying to predict the future market. If we're counting pinball then it would be my Twilight Zone. I'd value it around $7,500.

The only prediction I make about the future market is that sports games go down in value.

And even then I'm sometimes wrong.

Have there even been that many notable games that were decently valuable but then dropped significantly? Seems like just about everything has gone up, but some much more than others.

I pretty much just say the above to prevent myself from going crazy about stressing that I sold too early. I mean, sure most of the games I sold would be worth more now, but I was able to turn a profit and use that profit to buy something new and probably sold that for some profit...repeating the cycle. Had I not sold off video games, I never would have gotten into arcades. Had I not gotten into arcades, I never would have gotten into pinball.

Atlus DDS/Nocturne on PS2 are the only ones I can think OF. Once they reprinted they dropped a ton.

It happens quite a bit, most usually go back up. One that stayed cheap after being reprinted into infinity is the original Disgaea. That was was triple digits before it was cool, basically unobtainable for awhile after release.

Anything that gets a reprint.

Was just talking to a friend about Xenoblade having been pretty expensive before it got the reprint. They had no idea. They bought it after the reprint, knew nothing about the reprint, and thoroughly enjoyed the game. 100+ hours put into it.

Interesting to me how fans did a whole thing to get Nintendo to give the game a North American release. And not only did Nintendo finally do it, they went on to give the game a New 3DS port as well as a Nintendo Switch version.

I wonder how playable the 3DS one is. I've seen a lot of the game on the Wii, and that game seems like it might feel a bit cramped on a DS sized screen. I wonder how good of a port is was/is.

This is the crazy part in trying to understand this hobby. Just like everything else there is an exception to the rule. This one being all sports games go down except for the last one in the console(see ncaa 10 basketball, ncaa 14 football or even madden 17 football)

I will be curious to see if the restart of the series brings this out of collector lore or not! Either way it's still the last one until recently

I also doubled checked another title I knew of. One copy on eBay today for Madden 09 on the original xbox. Sold copies are $30 pre-owned for a 10+ year old football game

Keio Flying Squadron for Sega CD. Apparently the case sat vertically where ever it was stored. This means the manual is super minty. It looks like it came fresh off the printer. Not a crease to be seen. It's still stored vertically. Here is the last auction that ended at $2605. My manual doesnt' have the turned back corner on the spine like this one:

It's surprising how a lot of old games have risen in price even when taking inflation into account. The one I had that would be considered valuable (a few Ps1 JRPGS, first party SNES, N64, GC games) I sold years ago.

The only ones I have a left are a couple of Saturn games: Albert Odyssey and Magic Knight Rayearth. Mostly digital nowadays and the other physical games I have left are too current gen or old Xbox 360 games. I doubt those are going to be worth much.

Easily one of the best 2D platformers of the current era. I remember buying it on a whim when it first came out and loved it. It was during the 2nd golden age of gaming (the first being the absolute unit that was 2004) when games like Metal Gear Rising, Tomb Raider 2013, Bioshock Infinite, DMC, GTA5, The Last of Us, Killzone Mercenary and the Ps4 launched in the same year. It was severely overlooked and its a shame.

No, it's open. The one currently on the 'bay is bidding at around $120 with 16 bids. Im guessing the price is just starting to spike now. Same with Ratchet and Clank Into the Nexus. A few weeks ago it was selling for like $20, but recently it's selling at like $80. I think this is just the start of prices starting to go up. Give it a couple more weeks and a few more listings and I'm confident there'll be more consistent sold listing at its going rate

The most obvious fluke I've seen recently was Ys 8 CE for PS4. Recent sales were 300-400 and just a couple active listings for >=$800. All were new in shrink

Seems so weird that it would spike so big all at once.

Two months of subtime to the first person who finds a recent (last 2 weeks or so, but definitely prior to April 4) video from a relatively popular youtuber (at least 25K subscribers) talking about this game.

Im sorry if I caused confusion. I just looked at this again and it appears that prices have leveled out somewhat. All statements based again on the PS4 Collectors Edition of Ys 8 sealed
- Today the lowest listing is $420, next is $499
- There are a couple of sold listings around the $375 price point
- When checked previously the sold listings were $325-$350 with just those two active listings. It seemed low stock just had somebody setting said price.
- No research was done on the standard edition of the game.

I have noticed this trend on nearly every sequel. The previous game goes up in price as people want to play the last game before they play the latest game. This was also very evident in the Trails of Cold Steel games.

Wasn't sure if I should post or not!

I've got a complete cart-only, licensed NES set that I finished right around when my first son was born, almost six years ago. Haven't added anything to the collection since then, amazingly (I was going for a full SNES set as well, at the time- still have 200-something of those).

Most valuable one is Stadium Events. Still can't believe I have that. Used the winnings I got from a game show and then some to secure it. After that there are games like Little Samson and Flintstones: Surprise at Dino Peak.

Everything I get now is just stuff to play for modern systems. Maybe some day I'll get the collecting bug again, but having three kids and a lack of space to put new stuff derailed that. My dream was always to get a full NES set though, so it feels good to know I accomplished that.

@BluesideL It's not just video games either.

Just pended with FF to let some rare and/or valuable PS3 games go. Might add more. I'm sure i paid $15 or less for all of these, this panic spike due to the digital store closing is nuts. We both are not sure if it's going to hold, but it's a hell of a bubble right now.

One and done print runs of physical releases - even first party titles - are going to be more common with digital becoming an increasingly popular option.

Xenoblade 2 went up even more after Pyra/Mythra were announced for Smash. Xenoblade 2 was also launched in the first year of the Switch lifecycle so I feel like a lot of people missed it or overlooked it for Zelda BOTW or Mario Odyssey.

these damn kids who like digital only are a pain. I prefer physical, especially with $60+ new games.

All i can say is that as the console industry gets closer to a digital only economy, there's going to need to be either a whole lot more demos or "play the first hour free" type things, or a whole lot of steam-level sales.

$60 for digital is something I would only do for very special games.

Basically, yes. I bought Demon's Souls for $45 used, I highly doubt it reaches that price digitally anytime soon. With Steam it's 2 hours before you can't refund anymore.

The most valuable game I own is definitely Rendering Ranger, which is $600-$700 ish for the cart. I have a few other rare/valuable games but nothing else I own is even close to that. Other thoughts- my fire emblem collection has been shooting up in value, I remember spending $70 on path of radiance and thinking I overspent.

Most retro stuff is extra pricey these days, even compared to as recently as 2019 when I bought a lot of my SNES games

Don't really have anything really of value, probably my 2 most valuable are sealed copies of Mary Skelter: Nightmares (Vita) and Disaster Report 4 (PS4)
I actually bought Mary Skelter 2 on Switch physical just to play the first game because that version came on it as well, since Nightmares shot up before I got a chance to play it, well Mary Skelter 2 has started to do the same lol (guess should have expected it since the physical release was a limited run release. ) I just prefer physical games, guess I will have to buy it digital especially since Finale is coming to the West now lol

Here is my tiny collection... Nothing worth much in it wish I had what I had 17 years ago that was all stolen..

wry smile

This thread makes me cry because (as I've cried about in the past), I owned everything. Every expensive everything ever.

Ok, not quite. But I did have (all CIB mint):

Panzer Saga
Shining Force CD
Crusader of Centy
Contra Hard Corps
Castlevania Bloodlines
Magic Knight Rayearth
Earthbound
Mario RPG
Snatcher Sega CD
Keio Flying Squadron
Lunar SS & EB Sega CD
Lunar SSSC / EBC PS1
FF2, 3
Guardian Heroes
Every 32X Game except Spiderman Web
40+ CIB 3DO games
As many Saturn, Sega CD, Genesis, SNES, 3DO you can imagine (along with N64, PS1 CIB RPG's etc)

Problem is, they were worth 1/10th or 1/20th of their value today when I got rid of them.

Anyhow, enough crying.

Nowadays, just like everyone else I have tons of Limited Run Games LE's, 3D Dot Heroes, Folklore, Afrika, Zaku (Lynx), Gamecube games, Persona 4 Golden Vita Sealed, God Hand PS2, Devil's Third Wii U Sealed, etc. So many that are in the $100-$150 range. I'm holding on to a decent 13 game CIB NGPC collection, as well as a sealed Zelda Wii U system.

But man I still get sad about that old collection :(

Pretty much the only way I want to get old games right now is by dealing other games. Obviously trades are ideal but just selling for absurd funny money and using that to buy works out the same.

Nope, opening up every one of those $20 games. There are 7 more scheduled to come out this year, if I buy them all that's still less than the cost of one mid-tier Saturn game.

As for the screen, I haven't had much in the way issues with it. No motion blur that I've noticed, although the colors do get a bit washed out if you move too far our of the ideal viewing angle (not sure what exactly that issue is called) as for image quality, it does the job, especially since these games aren't exactly made for HD.

Given the price of the system (sells for $80 new with one cart included, or $100 with three carts), I wasn't expecting a switch or vita-quality screen.

So Pricecharting keeps your collection and puts a value on it all? Have you done this with your entire collection, or just PS1? I just started using GameEye on Android (see above), and so far I've listed 26 consoles (just the systems themselves) and I'm up to $6370. I probably have 3x that many systems in my basement waiting to be listed surprise

That was a good question, and I couldn't find the answer anywhere in writing...so I asked on the Reddit group. I was told it pulls from Pricecharting.com.

Pricecharting isn't my FAVORITE place for values, but alot of people DO use it. I find that it doesn't always match up with what I actually see on Ebay and Amazon, but if it's widely used, I guess it's fair enough to go for it.

So yeah, Gameye. It scans barcodes, allows for condition and completeness, sorts into games/systems/toys/etc, adds up the total values for you, and you can even add a loose cart game by taking a pic of it (haven't tried this yet myself, but it's there).

So far, I'm loving it. It's so easy to get going.

Pricecharting is fine, they just can't keep up on values at the moment. I've been selling PS1 stuff on here for more than pricecharting average, which definitely speaks to how it really just isn't capable of keeping up.

yes I had this discussion with someone before - do you feel Pricecharting is LOWER than actual values? I actual feel like it's higher than it should be...but I don't know.

At worst, it's a good starting point for comparing values. When a game is $5 on Pricecharting, you know not to spend $15 on it raspberry

Yeah it's super useful for at a glance pricing. This is just a specific case where values on many old things are going to the moon but their model has to include sales from months ago when at this point those sales could be half the price and are just not a realistic reflection of the current price. They are definitely lower in those instances. That could go the other way too, if a new game is dropping in price, it could be too high. In a normal situation, I have no idea if they lean too high or too low.

I sold most of my more expensive video games several years back. I had CIB copies of games like Earthbound and Chrono Trigger. The two games I kept CIB were A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. I assume they are the most expensive games in my collection currently. If pinball counts then Twilight Zone, which is around $7,500.

It was pretty critically acclaimed and is very charming and well worth seeking out (digitally). I recommend if you have a PS4/PS5 to just play it on PS NOW, as it's available on there. So glad I grabbed in on ps plus for free a few years ago
