Might as well get it started. Who's looking forward to it? I personally think that it could beat PS5, that is if they don't screw up. They need a basic UI, more first party titles, and focus only on gaming. They own the license to Rare games, we need to see new Conkers, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, etc. They did alright with Killer Instinct, I'll give them that, but they're sitting on a lot of games that needs remade, remastered, and sequels.
As far as I know, it's slightly more powerful than the PS5, which isn't a big deal. But what is a big deal is that it will come with more storage. XBSX will have 1TB, which I admit, is not much by today's standards. The PS5 will have 825GB, which is ridiculous. I'm guessing that the next gen games will be around 100gb or more in size on average. If that is the case, I expect the discs will be on 4k UHD blu-rays.

I have never felt that preloading a game before release made any sense. There's always a day one patch and sometimes it's just as size-able as the initial DL.

But I pre-loaded Forza Horizon 5 (103GB) on XSX a few days ago and now there is a 21GB update already. Again, still pre-release. I can live with the overall size but what incentive do we have to DL early?

I'm a bit bummed out, I'm pretty certain that my Horizon 4 cloud save got corrupted. I can't get the game to do anything after clicking A on the main screen when it's showing the Senna car.
Did some research and tried a bunch of things like redownloading, deleting local save, rebooting console, tried my X1X, no luck. I had more or less considered it done a while back but was going to play it a little more. I can't see bothering restarting, not with all the cars, cash, etc I did in the game already.
What might really suck is I thought I read that some of your garage or something might transfer from 4 to 5... Stinks.

I think the reason is that SOMETIMES it is just as size-able. Lots of times, it isn't. If Borderlands 3 is a 75GB download that I can pre-load -- and on release day there is a 10GB patch (which, if I recall, was about what it was) -- then it is certainly worth it to me to pre-load it before release.

Just to be able to play it faster, right? Especially when the downloads seem even slower on release day since everyone is grabbing it who didn't pre-load it. I'd much rather download the 103GB beforehand and only need the other 21GB on the day I want to play -- than the entire download. (Especially because, for some updates, it seems like even if you wanted until final release, you sometimes have to download the entire 103GB original PLUS the 21GB update -- for 124GB total. In other words, they aren't always integrated into one yet at that point -- so it really helps to have downloaded 80% of it beforehand.)

I don't know how Xbox and PlayStation handle it since I don't buy 1st party titles digitally on those platforms, but with how Nintendo does it on Switch (I don't think 3DS and Wii U allowed pre-loading) I like that they allow you to play the game as soon as the clock strikes midnight on the release date (eastern time, so 9pm on west coast).

Can someone explain to me smart delivery? Been noticing quite a few games don't offer the X/S enhanced version if you buy last gens version physical release, it however does give you the option to do it if you buy it digitally. On the PlayStation you can get the next gen upgrade it does not matter if it was a physical release or digital.

Call of Duty Vanguard is a prime example. On Xbox if let's say you have a Xbox One and buy the game on a physical disk and then you get a series S/X for Christmas you cannot get the true next gen experience of that game unless you purchase the full game again for that system. I suppose my question would be how come you can with digital and not with physical?

Smart Delivery is a new technology introduced with Xbox Series X|S consoles. When purchasing a game with Smart Delivery, the best version of the game is automatically delivered to your console, regardless of generation -- no extra steps required from you.

The physical and digital question is simple, Sony and Microsoft wants games to be digital-only.

Physical games can have smart delivery too. It is up to the publisher.

For COD specifically, they are offering an Xbox one version for 60, or the cross-gen version for 70 which has the Xbox series x enhancements, but will also play the last generation Xbox one version. (Same on the digital store, two different versions at the two price points)

By offering the Series X inclusive version for just 10 dollars more, the intent of the marketing is to push people to buy that one, even if they don't have a Series X yet because it offers a better value. Your brain thinks "I may as well get it because if I don't, I'll have to buy it again if I get a Series X."

The problem I have with this approach is when someone goes to buy a retail copy. If a retailer currently only has the Xbox One version in stock, the buyer may not realize it isn't the one they want because it says "Xbox One * Xbox Series X" in the line at the top of the case. So they might not be being the enhanced version they want. Unless you know there are two versions at retail, you risk getting the wrong one. They need to just put one system at the top, and if they want to advertise that it plays on Series X, just add a small "also plays on Series X!" marketing blurb on the cover. (EA figured this out, they put "Xbox Series X version also included for free" right at the bottom of FIFA 21 and I assume other games)

Some other not-so-Activision publishers are just doing both versions under a single release (which is the best and least confusing way to go). Others, like the publisher of Hot Wheels Unleashed is going even more confusing by not even offering a digital or physical product that includes both versions. I was going to buy a copy to take to OMG!Con this past weekend, but they only have Xbox Ones and I have a Series X. So if I bought the enhanced Series X version, they wouldn't be able to play it. But if I bought the Xbox One version, I would lose out on the Series X benefits. And it's worse than Vanguard because both versions are the same price and the covers are almost identical.

It's a marketing comprehension nightmare

This. I have the physical version of Borderlands 3 that I bought for my Xbox One at release. Finally put in my XSX a few weeks ago and, once I put in the disc, it immediately offered the enhanced version download. yes

See below. It's not about DL size, it's about timing and "more" downloads when a game is set to "preload me because I'm just waiting on the date/time now".

Correct, in that it is a "pre-load" so that you can play the game immediately. But preloading a game to play it at midnight is one thing. Pre-loading for that purpose but then having additional DLs several days before the release date is lame. So it wasn't ready after-all. Sure, if you can DL 100GB then 20GB more isn't life threatening but why not just put out a 120GB DL 3 days before release instead of 7 days? I have no confidence that when the game actually releases that I can play right away. So why would I bother to preload? Even knowing that day-of DL's are going to be slower. At least I know that's the latest build.

Um, right. It wasn't. That's how game development works these days. They are very often literally fixing bugs during the last 72 hours of release. It's a high-pressure, deadline-centered business where things are often not done until the last minute. And, heck, it is normal to then have everyone start playing it, find lots of new bugs because of all the new people, and continue to have updates often even after release, of course.

> Sure, if you can DL 100GB then 20GB more isn't life

Because it literally wasn't done and didn't exist 3 days before release.

Yeah, this is pretty normal when it comes to gaming these days, unfortunately. I'm thinking playing right at least is just not a good idea for you at all -- regardless of when you download it.

It isn't like the old days where a game was just "done" before release. Again, I don't like it either, but it is reality. People should EXPECT that a game released today is going to get multiple updates right after and in the coming weeks/months. Heck, I'm dealing with a known bug in Borderlands 3 right now that was reported back in April (that you can work around with some video performance adjustments). They're so busy fixing/patching actual gameplay, that they haven't had time to get to a bug from back in April! Yet I still love me some BL3! smile

I've enjoyed 2x 2hr or so sessions yesterday and tonight. It looks fantastic, clearly head and shoulders above 4. Not loving much of the banter/back & forth between your character and some of the NPCs, feels a little lame.

Not surprisingly it feels like I haven't even scratched the surface yet so I'll surely be enjoying it here and there for a long while.

Since my save seemingly got corrupted for 4 just last month I'm glad this dropped.

So the Location is just as great? I only started Forza with part 3, when I read about 5, the article talked about the different locations and I thought that was a reason to not overlook one of the older ones if it "feels" like each location is unique. Played 4 on GamePass but not like I played 3. Want to say 3 was Australia forget where 4 was.....where is 5?

5 is Mexico.

I picked it up yesterday and put in a couple hours. It's forza horizon, for sure. If you like that (which I do) it's easy to recommend. Other than the environment it doesn't feel much different than 4 so far.

I like it, haven't felt that the banter is cringe (except that radio announcer).

I still don't like how limited the character customization is, and how so much of it has to be unlocked randomly with wheel spins. It always feels a bit crapty to have your spin just inch past an amazing car and you win some ridiculous striped pants instead.

I somehow inadvertently turned braking assist on for that first showcase event and kept wondering why my car was slowing down so bad at a couple parts. During my second try I figured it out. Turned it off and started again and won the event.

I feel like I got way more cars money etc. early in 4, but it might also be that I only played it earlier this year when I got my series X, and all the dlc was out and the dlc pack was $20 so it just loaded me up at the start.

Favorite general drive car so far is the Lancer Evo, but I've loved that car in every racing game I've had it in. And it's popular enough that it's in a lot of them.

You used to have a PT cruiser? Looking for "your car" in those games is fun! I used to own a plymouth Laser which was a copycat Mitsubishi Eclipse, then a Pontiac Firebird, and then a Scion XD. I think all 3 of those made it in one iteration or the other of Forza or GT.

@Groo 3 is set in Australia, 4 is England, 5 as mentioned is Mexico. I enjoyed 3 more than 4 due in part to the more diversity of environments and wasn't a big fan of the seasons in 4.
5 feels bigger and is, plus the more tropical areas feel more like summer where even in the summer season in 4 it still felt like you were in chilly/rainy England. To me Horizon should feel like summer.

Agree @benstylus on the wheel spins sucking when you get some apparel or emote crap vs a solid car or pile of cash. That addition from 4 was pure crap and is worse that it not only continued but that you can buy that junk for like $10k-50k each!?
I'm guessing that they made the prices that high to prevent us from buying all of the crap right away at reasonable prices, you know $50-250 each, just to get them out of the rewards pile.
I'm still annoyed that you can't sort rims by weight. I really only buy rims to improve performance since you don't see them 99% of the time anyhow.

Anybody else notice that in some scenes that the tires will be either rotating or not, out of sync with the vehicle? Seen a clip in a review where the car fully stopped a good 2 second before the tires. Then last night my truck moved a good 2 car lengths at a slower speed with the tires not moving at all - i.e. it wasn't that they were locked and sliding, odd looking.

Where can you buy them? My wheel spins have been probably 70% small amounts of cash and dumb clothes. I got some plain brown socks from one of them. Even at 10-50k they're worth buying if it takes them off the wheel, because the lowest cash prize I've gotten was 40k.

Anyone play their Series X on a monitor? My KS8000 is still great, but it's only 60hz and I don't feel like dropping a grand to get a 4k 120hz TV right now. I could however use a new monitor for work, so I'm thinking about going with the Gigabyte M27Q. It's 1440p 170hz with Freesync Premium. With the 1ms response time and IPS panel, I'm thinking this should be a great alternative until I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new 4k TV.

Motorsport and Horizon may as well be two separate Franchises to be honest. Really the only similarity between the two is that you drive cars.

Horizon is the racing game that is welcomes everyone with open arms.

Motorsport is the game that takes itself far more seriously, like Gran Turismo.

There is a lot of overlap of Motorsport fans who enjoy Horizon when they need a break from the serious stuff. I don't think the overlap is nearly as large going the other way, though.

I dislike the Gears franchise very much, i really enjoyed Gears Tactics, but that was it.
I'm a pretty big shooter guy but for some reason i've never dug Gears.
Forza does indeed look great, but it can't decide if it wants to be a deep racer or an arcade style racer.
Hopefully Deathloop makes the switch to PC/Xbox soon.

Honestly, what I like best about the Forza series is the Rewind button. Nothing irritates me more than having a really long race, doing well, but missing a single turn and then getting passed and losing the race and 20 minutes of my life. It sucks all of the fun out of it because of one tiny mistake. The Rewind is a total cheat but I don't care, it's a game, I want to have fun.
