League Overview:
Welcome to Year 5 of the GameTZ Fantasy Gaming League! This is basically fantasy football with games. Each person picks 10 games and those 10 games make up your "team" for the year. The Metacritic scores for your 10 games are tallied up at the end of the year to determine your total. Highest overall score wins. You also get 2 alternate picks (these should be safe choices) just in case one of your picks gets delayed into 2023. So if you shoot for the moon with a game like Final Fantasy XVI and it gets pushed into 2023 (because you know it will lol), one of your alternates takes its place and you don't end up with 0 points for that game. The goal is to pick games that you think have a very good chance of releasing in 2022. Don't YOLO your way into a bunch of 0s lol.
The Rules: 1. No DLC or Expansions 2. No Ports or Remasters (full remakes are allowed) 3. Alternate picks can only replace games delayed into 2023. They cannot be used to replace games in your top 10 that review poorly.
The Prize: 1st Place: A $50 Amazon Gift Card 2nd Place: A $20 Amazon Gift Card 3rd Place: A $10 Amazon Gift Card
Gran Turismo is killing it (not Eldin Ring killing it, but still good). I wish I had it in my main list, but I'm sure one of my games won't come out this year.
Yeah, I had gran turismo on my list too but took it off. I've also heard mumblings of Mario Rabbids getting delayed. Just mumblings so don't take my word for it, but that would suck for me because I took some gambles.

I think Ubi said on their recent earnings call that it would come out before the end of Q1 2023. I'm still pretty confident it'll come out this year, though.
I was torn between Mario Rabbids and Splatoon and went Splatoon. Splatoon should hopefully be somewhere between 80-83, but looking at all the other lists, I kinda wish I went with something with a bit more upside.
Stray was supposed to be my wildcard and its starting to look like it really may be the make or break on my list. will probably wish id taken hellblade 2 or something if its not good. still hoping bayo3 and botw2 actually happen, dying light 2 was supposed to be a better alternate in case one of those slipped.

did anyone have "mainline pokemon game" or something of the sort? i wasnt expecting new mainline entries the same year as Arceus
To be fair, at this point, those in the top 10 just have picket more games that already came out. If we went by average score per game, things might look a little different. I'm still feeling pretty good about my placement, although I wish I had put GT7 in my main list.
OP updated with scores for Chocobo GP and Triangle Strategy. Chocobo GP is at 65 on Metacritic from 25 reviews and Triangle Strategy is at 83 on Metacritic from 41 reviews.
Wow, that Chocobo GP game almost made my list but now I'm glad it didn't. I still want to play it, but I'll do it via the free-to-play version releasing in the eShop.
I had Babylon's Fall as one of my top games in 2021 until they said it would be mainly a live service focus. Then I removed it from my list quicker than flies boink.
>> I need 2 of the following to release this year to be ok:

>> Bayonetta 3
>> God of War Ragnarok
>> Hogwarts Legacy
>> Hollow Knight: Silksong
>>
>> I'm not too worried about GoW, but I don't know about the other 3...

> Oh man, this is going to be a heartbreaking year xD
I'm actually feeling optimistic about Bayonetta 3. The last time they showed it, they put 2022 in the trailer. I'll be surprised if Hogwarts Legacy comes out this year. I don't know what to think about Silksong.
Figures I didn't put Gotham Knight on my list this year, thinking it'd be delayed again like last. Oh well, I'm still looking forward to the game regardless!
Guys at GameStop were telling me how hilarious Tiny Tina is... and also they're excited for the new Kirby game because it's the first REAL Kirby game since... I think the NES?

If you don't count Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby 64, Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland, Kirby Squeak Squad, Kirby Return to Dreamland, Kirby Triple Deluxe, Kirby Planet Robobot, or Kirby Star Allies, then yeah. Since NES.
> @tonymack21 Annapurna has confirmed that Stray will be coming out this year.
hopefully excellent news for us. i also really want to play the game, when the first reveal happened a couple years back or whenever i slowly started realizing "wait.. are we the cat.. is this about being a cat... omg youre the cat" and then it happened and i was ready to play it lol. hopefully its good too i need it to by my wild card game, i was surprised anyone else put it on their list
So how does the swap work? Do we get to choose which of the two backups we'd like to change out for a game that's delayed to next year? Are we allowed to choose the one with the higher points if they get reviewed before delay is confirmed??

I think they just go in order. If one game doesn't come out, the #1 alt is used (unless that alt also doesn't come out, in which case your #2 is used). If two games don't come out, both alts are used.
If three games don't come out, well better luck next year
Wow, I didn't expect Tunic to score anywhere close to that. It looked like it was going to be a very basic, cheaply-done Zelda clone. Now I want to play it!
Harry Potter is supposed to come out this Holiday season now, and it looks pretty good. It might turn out to be a pretty good pick for those that gambled.
I've had my eyes on Tunic since the first PAX demo a couple of years ago. I feel foolish for not considering it on my list... Still, I look forward to playing it on Game Pass one of these days
ACG on YT said it's kinda messy. It's fine at platforming and being a walking sim but when the action starts it feels a bit wonky. I'm still gonna get it on a sale.
@Heavyd814life - weird request, but I would like to officially drop Gran Turismo 7 from my alternate list.
Not replace it with anything, just remove it entirely. With the crap Sony is pulling with the game (8x more expensive DLC cars, reducing race rewards to make it harder to grind, much of the single player content requiring you be online), I just want nothing to do with it anymore.
Removing it won't have a potential positive effect on my score - it's my second alt, so Forza would have been used first if a game on my main list didn't come out. All removing it would do is make it so I get a zero instead of 87 if a second game didn't release.
@benstylus I understand your disgust with the game but...what's the point of that, exactly? You aren't giving any money to the developers by having it on your list. You shouldn't just be able to remove games to your list once submitted, alternate or not.

I agree if there was a chance that removing the game would increase my score, but since the only effect this could have on my score is negative, I feel like it would be OK. But I will let Heavyd814life decide since this is their topic.
Wait till he learns there are people in the NFL who are of questionable reputation/women beaters/possible rapists. He'll probably complain about Madden 23 as well and I assume try to remove it? Can't see whatever he said.

>
> in hindsight, miffed that i took it off my list at the last moment, but in my defense

Yeah, I remember watching footage and thinking that's an easy pass. Didn't watch the Feb direct so seeing it at 85 was quite surprising. Kudos to the folks who picked it.
I didn't know about the Kirby game til I was in GameStop last week. They were hyped about it. I ended up pre-ordering it because I liked Kirby on NES.
Surprised about Tiny Tina... I mean I didn't do a lot of research other than what I read it was supposed to be about and when I saw a video of it I was a bit iffy on my choice.
Man I somehow claimed to spot 4 in time to hear the announcement. I'm not shocked, but I am disappointed. I was really hoping both sequels to Horizon and Zelda were this year!
Mixed feelings. A bit disappointed as a Zelda fan, but very happy for my list. I may actually stand a chance now if PlatinumGames can get it together and just give us a date for Bayo 3 already.
Good thing that Sony Santa Monica just re-confirmed that the new God of War is coming out this year: https://twitter.com/BlueOwlzMedic/status/150710245.... I'm already at two games from my list for sure delayed until next year (Suicide Squad and BOTW 2).
Yeah I haven't really followed the game much. I just remember there was a trailer, then several people had it on their list last year, so I figured surely it would come out this year.
OP updated with scores for Weird West. It's currently at 73 on Metacritic from 27 reviews. That's the PS4 version of the game. Interestingly, the PC version has 25 reviews and a Metacritic score of 78. It'll be interesting to see which version finishes with more reviews.
looks like i will need both alternates of bayo3 doesnt hit this year since botw2 isnt happening. (i wonder what everyone's top listing will be next year lol)
In its full-year earnings report published on Wednesday, the company said Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Skull & Bones are on track to release during its current fiscal year ending on March 31, 2023.
Speaking on the company's earnings call, chief corporate finance officer Frédérick Duguet narrowed the release windows for the three games to the second half of the fiscal year, meaning they won't be released before October 1, 2022.
Mario + Rabbids is looking like early next year? So anywhere after October 1, 2022
With the attention that the first game got, I'm not so sure. Only thing (announced) around there is Starfield, and that's still a month buffer
Nintendo doesn't have anything on the docket for that timeframe yet. They could plug and play any of the games that they don't have a release date for yet,
But with Halo: Finite being released in an unfinished state, why not just release Starfield and fix it later? Seems to be the AAA thing to do with M$'$ GamePass games. No one's really buying that crap anyway.
Looking at my list, I'm probably screwed. God of War is most likely going to be delayed as well. Hogwarts Legacy is going to be delayed based on recent rumors from "insiders". And The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, still not release date. So probably delayed.
Wait, you mean the tentpole franchise super mega expensive genre defying game that's supposed to release soon but has no gameplay shown anywhere was delayed?
In other news Sea of Stars is starting to look like it's not going to make it either. They've been really cagey about release dates after a lot of optimism earlier.
Rumors swirling Ragnarok is delayed into 2023 but having the first one on PS+ seems to hint the opposite. Other reports saying no word of a delay. Going to be a nail biter
Added release dates for Metal: Hellsinger, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, F1 2022, Two Point Campus, and Stray to the OP. Hopefully we get even more release dates in the next few days.
Also updated the OP with scores for Card Shark. It's currently at 80 on Metacritic from 30 reviews.
Wow, I'm speechless that I'm number 1 right now. I was expecting to be closer to the bottom as I never really was much on these Fantasy gaming leagues. LOL
I'm nervous now. I was so sure Forza would make it out this year. When's Nintendo's E3 thing? I need a release date for Bayo 3 or I'm probably screwed.
> Wow, I'm speechless that I'm number 1 right now. I was expecting to be closer to
> the bottom as I never really was much on these Fantasy gaming leagues. LOL
It's been such a wild year! When I first looked over people's lists I was sure the game I'd regret not having would be Advanced Wars and now that may not even make it out this year. It'll be interesting to see how many of us even have 10 games at the end of the year.
> No remakes. They're easy high scoring games and take the strategy out of it.
We discussed this earlier in the year, but my memory sucks so I don't even remember where we landed on this. I'm guessing by the negs that folks want to keep remakes in? I'm not fussed either way. But I think as long as it's built from the ground up, it should qualify. I look at 2023 and there are only 3 high-profile remakes that come to mind. Sure RE4 will probably slay, but FF7 Remake may or may not come out which makes it a risky pick and then there's Dead Space which could be good, but it's EA so who really knows.
I don't give a fudge about negs. I just negged my own post, so it's-4 now. My point is, it's a lazy, easy score that is mostly an easy pick and takes away from the skill/luck of it. Ultimately it's your choice @Heavyd814life but they tend to always score high.
It's been discussed before. The decision was made to keep remakes in but remasters/rereleases were not. There is still risk in these picks as the remake could be done incredibly poorly (like Secret of Mana https://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/secr...)
> But I think as long as it's built from the ground up, it should qualify.
I agree. And really, how many remakes do we get each year for this to be a problem? Certainly not as many as lazy remasters, which understandably we're not allowed to put on our lists. And a remake isn't always guaranteed to be a high score. A couple of quick examples off the top of my head, that remake of XIII a couple years ago (rocking a 39 on Metacritic), and last year's remake of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (sitting at a 73 which is on the low side by Nintendo standards). And if remakes were banned, does that go for reboots too (I have Saints Row on my list)? Where is the line drawn?
Looks like reviews dropped for TMNT today. It's reviewing well. Currently at 84 on Metacritic from 23 reviews. I'll update the OP in a couple of hours.
I don't think I'll ever get how anyone would play F1 Racing... Maybe it's I only tried an older game from PS1/PS2 era and didn't like it... and things have changed since??
> I don't think I'll ever get how anyone would play F1 Racing... Maybe it's I only
> tried an older game from PS1/PS2 era and didn't like it... and things have changed

The F1 games by Code Masters are pretty good. However, you really need to be an F1 fan or a racing fan to play them. As they are simulation games and not arcade games.
