Sony and Microsoft thinking about putting adds in games.

I am actually ok with this, if done right. In sports games it seems like a perfect fit, considering adds are all over. In other games it has to be organic. You see open world games like Spiderman and when your going through the city and come across adds for non existent products it just feels wierd. But I do t want to watch full on adds unless I get points for multiplayer crap... Full adds have no business in single player games though.

In F2P games, I mean they are free... I just hope they are not as obnoxious like in mobile games.

Would it impact the ability to do a re-release (remaster) years later? Like, I think with songs (e.g. Guitar Hero, Brutal Legend) one barrier can be obtaining new licenses for using the songs. If a game has a Coca Cola product ad in it, does the game publisher need to get the brand's permission to re-release the game in 10 years?

I agree that it makes sense in most classic sports and racing games... but less so in a swords-n-sorcery fantasy or futuristic sci-fi game.

Wave Race 64 had Kawasaki logos in the game, but years later when they put the game on Virtual Console those were replaced with Wii and DS logos instead. That can work with in-game characters too, like when Mike Tyson got removed from his own game. It's probably not always that easy though. Even if they do get emulation, playing on original hardware is still the best way to play anything.
