not sure really. I mean I have backlogs on other systems. I have some big ones like Xenoblade 3, Pokemon Violet, and there are 2 newer games I really want, Crisis Core and Dragon Quest Treasures that I haven't bought yet. And Spark of Life is just not high on my want list.

Glad they did the demo. After 10 tries or so I couldn't beat the first boss. After the weirdness, easy pass.

Hades... I bought it physical when it sold out nearly everywhere. Never opened it. Nearly bought it digital on sale, but felt that would be stupid for a game I've never played in a genre I've never really played enough to say I'm a fan.

-Kirby: Return to Dreamland Deluxe (not huge into Kirby but I could probably go in on this one)
-Disney Illusion Land (a Mickey Mouse platformer but where all the characters are drawn in that old school, classic style. Looks decently fun.)
-It's a Wonderful Life (bringing my favorite Harvest Moon game to Switch is neat)
Hogwarts Legacy is also slated for Switch in July (months after it drops for other consoles), but I'm sure most folks who want to play that will be doing so without the Switch.

First posted user reviews are mostly bad. Complaints of game breaking bugs, poor performance, and generally just bad game design. The bugs and performance should be fixable I hope. I remember the first one had at least one game breaking glitch that I never saw.
I'm worried about the performance complaints though as this game has been in development over 5 years. Scope creep leading to a poor game has been brought up a few times which was one of my major concerns. Hopefully some sites can put up some reviews, and they can quickly patch the perfmance/glitch issues.

That's very disappointing, especially because like you said, this was in development for quite a few years. I already bought the game, but now I know not to bother playing it until it gets patched up. Maybe this dev deliberately chose not to send out review copies for that reason.

I definitely hear that, that the idea might seem like a copout, however I think that when it comes to rogues the design of the stage isn't the focus of the game but rather the mechanics and gameplay. For instance, when I was playing Slay the Spire and Hades, although level design doesn't change much, there's definitely progression and a deep and intricate level of synergy going on. Something that non rogues don't usually have nearly that much of.

I haven't played it yet, but my understanding is that it's open world with free roaming Pokemon, but doesn't have (or has very little) trainer/gym battles. Also, it doesn't have the traditional catch method where you battle the Pokemon and then catch it, you just throw Pokeballs. So it had some of what I was hoping for, but Scarlet/Violet has it all.
BloodPuppetX
3-Jan-2023(#103)Arceus wasn't really open world either. It was segmented, like Witcher 3 and the Xenoblade games. The areas weren't nearly as large as in those games.

The same story I read mentioned that they appealed the DMCA notice, and Nintendo just hadn't respond after two weeks, so it was automatically reinstated.
If N wants to take further action they still can, though there doesn't seem to be much of a reason based on the fact that this never got past the pitch stage.

Agreed. I wonder how much was lost in translation in the pitch document, and how much N already had planned for Retro (much to their dismay). Sounds like the latter.
Hearing they were burnt out during MP2 is not surprising to me. That game completely failed to grab me. After trying to get into it multiple times, burned me out on the series as a consumer. I bought MP3, but dropped it after only an hour or so and never went back.
I'm hoping 4 will be great whenever it drops, but after the success of Dread I have a feeling they are shifting development more towards that direction and further away from the exploration the series was known for. One possible explanation for seeing nothing to date.

On a side note, imo, the Club Nintendo rewards in the past were much better than the rewards offered now. Gold Nunchuks? Figurines? Way better.

I learned the gold ones expired last month. Was saving them in case I ever wanted a digital game that was over $20 since I won't spend cash outright. Then got an email showing I had gold ones expiring. I miss club nintendo.

I always set a reminder on my calendar for when my Platinum coins expire....then I spend a bunch on the MyNintendo physical rewards and jsut pay the $6.99 shipping. I usually spend 2000+ coins at a time which then buys me 3 months before the next round of expiring coins.
I always spend my Gold coins on the next digitial purchase. Since I rarely buy a full price $59.99 game on the eShop, I never worry about them expiring.

MyNintendo did have free shipping for quite a while before starting to charge $6.99 if the order was under $50.

I literally just opened the button set the other day. My lady needed some buttons and that’s an item that has stayed at its value. But dang those buttons are a pain. Luke the back is made for storage but I feel like I’m going to stab myself trying to ion it

I'll try to pick up another extra copy next time I order. I tried (because you never know who is going to want a copy LOL), but they were out of stock last time.
One of the ones I picked up was Konami's Mahjong Fight Club, which features 48 real life JPML players as opponents, and is pretty highly regarded.

20-Jan-2023(#140)Fire Emblem Engage came out today. I thought it had already released. Reviews are generally good, and it sounds like they ditched the 3 Houses stuff and went back to the basics. They don’t send them in the mail. It’s in store only, if you ordered online you can take your receipt to the store and get yours apparently but it’s while supplies last

They aren't revamping the controls on Switch... that's supposedly only for Xbox. NES and SNES are basically done first party minus some less popular titles and ones they don't own all the rights to. So everything else will cost them $.
Still excited for 007 on Switch. Unfortunately I have a feeling it will play like crap on a standard controller, and I don't really want to buy an N64 online controller for one game when they are still being scalped (I never pay a premium thus don't buy scalped crap). Will see on Friday I guess.
On a side note, I have no plans on getting an Xbox, but I really hate they omitted online play for them. That really sucks the "best" version is local only.

You will have to remap controls outside of the game using the Switch controller mapping setting. (I presume, haven't looked at the details). This will change the button mapping for all games, but you can always go back to defaults.

The first big trailer for BotW that showed off a lot of gameplay and stuff dropped in June 2016 during their E3 Direct, 9 months before the game actually released. We're already way behind that. The game comes out in 3 months and all we've gotten are a couple vague trailers that showed almost nothing. I honestly can't believe they've waited this long to show us more. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the game gets pushed back again.

7-Feb-2023(#227)I don't have any predictions, but I'll post my ongoing wish list:
1) Mario Kart 9 - MK8 came out in 2014! I know they ported it to the Switch, but still, it's time for some new Mario Kart! I'd love to see them go full Smash Kart in the next one, bringing in way more characters from non-Mario games. Not so much for the characters though, I really don't care who I play as, I just like that it would open up tons of new level possibilities. Unfortunately, we won't be getting a new Mario Kart any time soon since they're only halfway through the Booster Course Pass, but it's still my top want. I want a brand new Mario Kart, danggit!
2) 2D Zelda - Not a port or a remake, just a brand new 2D Zelda game without any (stupid) gimmicks.
3) Donkey Kong Country 4 - More like the original trilogy, not Returns/Tropical Freeze. I know this is incredibly unlikely, but it's staying on my list anyway.
4) 2D Mario - something new that breaks free from the tired NSMB formula. A 2D Odyssey with Cappy could be great!
5) 3D Mario - I'd be happy with 3D World 2, Galaxy 3, Odyssey 2, something similar to SM64, or something brand new! I do think the next one will be a sequel though.
6) Yoshi's Woolly World port - Besides TP:HD and WW:HD (which I do think will find their way to the Switch eventually) this is the only Wii U game I care about that hasn't either been ported or gotten a superior sequel. It's one of my favorite games, and I would really love to have access to it on the Switch.
7) Pokemon, Let's Go (Gen 2) - I loved the unique mechanics of the first one, and really hope to see more gens clremade in a similar way.
8) F-Zero - I had dropped this one from my list for a while after playing Fast Racing Neo and being very disappointed. But, it's back on the list now because I'm sure Nintendo would do a much better job.
9) Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons remake - After playing the Link's Awakening remake, I wanted them to remake these two games in the same style. Now, I'm not so sure that style makes as much sense for the Oracle games. They're a bit darker/grittier than LA, and don't have the whole dream aspect. Either way, I'd love to see them remade!
10) 3D Zelda ports/collection - Ideally, we'd get a collection of all the pre-SS 3D Zelda games, so the 3DS versions of OoT and MM, TP:HD, and WW:HD. But, it's Nintendo, so I know that's asking a LOT. It's hard to see them not releasing TP:HD and WW:HD as stand-alones, we all know they'd sell like crazy. So, I don't really know what to expect, I just know I'd like to see these games become available on Switch.
11) Metroid Prime Trilogy - I've wanted to give this series another chance for a while, and would really love to do so on the Switch if at all possible. I really hope we get the whole trilogy at once, not individual releases. Since they released the trilogy as one product on the Wii, I have hope that they'll do the same next time.
12) 2D Metroid - I'd be fine with a brand new one, or a remake. I thoroughly enjoyed Samus Returns and Dread, so I want 2D Metroid games to keep coming!
13) DS/3DS Player - something like the GBA Player, but for DS and 3DS games. Not exactly sure how this would work, maybe some add-on to the dock that could communicate with the Switch wirelessly, so the Switch itself would be the controller and bottom screen, and the add-on would display the top screen on the tv. It's not perfect, but I think it could work, and it would be great to be able to play ALL handheld Nintendo games on a TV.

As cool as this would be, it makes zero sense financially for N to do it.
The Super Game Boy and the GameCube GBA player both came out when releases for those respective handhelds were going strong.
3DS releases were drying up by 2018, and there were only a handful of releases in the first half of 2019. There have been a few novelty releases after that, but nothing from Nintendo themselves. Original DS releases ended in 2014.
Unless Nintendo just bought a big stake in eBay, they have no reason to introduce new hardware to play out of print DS/3DS games.
It's more likely they would just add a few select releases to Switch Online (since Virtual Console seems to be a thing of the past)

I think bare bones is the template for Nintendo's B-Tier releases nowadays (including sports games), relying on post-launch updates to keep people interested/playing.

Believe it or not, this is my biggest want (or the rumored remake of MP1). I just want to play this again with cleaned up graphics, widescreen support (without paying over $150 for GameCube component wires) and no friggin waggle.
Beyond this, my prediction is we'll get Pikmin 4 soon. I'm thinking of a May or maybe June release. And at some point, they are going to have to start talking about the 2nd half of the year. They need to keep people interested and excited for the future.

so, not things that were on people's lists, but big budget 1st (or 2nd) party games nonetheless

I thought by the time the GBA Player came out, the GBA was mostly over. I just looked it up, the GBA Player came out in June 2003, and the DS in Nov 2004. It's definitely much later this time around, in comparison, but not entirely outside the realm of possibility. But that's just my wish list, and I understand that one is a huge long shot lol

The only expectation I have going into this one is that they need to show us more of TotK. Aside from that, I'll be happy with whatever we get. My list I posted is just my ongoing wish list, games I hope we get. I'm not expecting them to announce any of those games tomorrow (although, I would love for them to of course!)
...THAT said...I've been fairly disappointed in the Directs for a while now. Most of them have 1 maybe 2 things I'm actually interested in, and the rest is mostly 3rd party stuff I don't care about at all. I'm always happy to see Nintendo getting good 3rd party support since that was a huge issue with the Wii U. But, I just feel like the first party releases have in turn slowed down a bit. So if I'm negative after a Direct, it's simply because there wasn't much for me personally, not that I expected specific things and didn't get exactly what I wanted.

Don't forget the GBA SP also came out in early 2003. A lot of the GBA'S most popular games were released in 2003 or later. Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire and the Gen 1 remakes, Golden Sun 2, Zelda Minish Cap, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow, Metroid Zero Mission, and more.

I don't think we'll get a lot of info on TotK as I'm expecting it will get its own mini direct in a late March or early April. So perhaps a time frame for that, the announcement of the SEs, the leaked TotK themed OLED Switch and maybe a short clip to go along with it.
I'm expecting more info and hype on known games with a few surprises, which by most accounts one will be Sluggers. Really not a lot...

Yeah, it was $60 up until yesterday I think. Saw a bunch of CAG/Wario posts going nuts about the $70 price, then it was taken down. Who knows what actually happened ... but safe to assume it'll all get situated after the Direct today.
