new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is brand:::PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I can't even watch this since I will probably try to get this game later myself 😍

If I'm going to try a speedrun on it eventually I want to do it without stealing your methods. Not that I want to beat your run but I could see myself placing on the leaderboard just slower than Dugongue lol.

That might just be it. And I made mistakes on both the crab boss and the soda fountain boss. There's like 6 or 7 seconds to save just there.

No, my time was a 12:54, which is still 4th on the leaderboard, but just 2 seconds of 3rd and 21 seconds off the record.

I don't know what makes me more sad from this scenario here: that the flea market vendor taped right over the cartridge label or that the potential buyer's too freaked out at the possibility of a reproduction to just pull the trigger and buy the damn thing. But, on the flip side, I've already reached out to him and offered to buy the bundle and take the risk. Let's see where this goes. smiley:::grin

OBS is free, you can stream anything on your PC. For consoles, you need something like a Elgato HD(the older model if you need AV/Component), that's what I use.

I like YouTube, but Twitch seems like its easier to use.

PS4 can stream on its own. Press the share button, and just link your YouTube/Twitch.

I use the GV-USB2 capture card for all my retro streaming. Way cheaper than the Elgato and doesn't have video/audio lag. It doesn't play especially nice with OBS but there are easy enough workarounds for it.

I honestly can't remember if the last time I played I got stuck on the hallway before Death or Dracula, but it wasn't much of a problem this time. The NG games are definitely harder. Without the double/triple shots this game might be a dog. They're the spin slash of Castlevania, not just holy water.

I agree, this wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Not that it was easy or anything but I guess I remembered it differently than it truly was. Can't remember if I ever completed it back in the day either, nothing after the first 7-8 stages felt familiar to me.

I thought Death was harder than Dracula for sure. Couldn't read the pattern with Death because of those stupid flying ring deals but Drac's pattern I picked up pretty early. The hardest stage for me was the clock tower or gears or whatever those are...I couldn't see those steps at the bottom for anything. Died a bunch of times trying to jump around looking for a hidden platform or some other way to go around.

DefaultGen
GameTZ Gold Subscriber Triple Gold Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally Has Written 5 Reviews

Lol at the clock tower. You can see the steps coming back down on the screen when you go up! I expected Death to be harder than Dracula but I killed him the second time I made it there just by spamming triple crosses. I died more on the hallway leading there. Getting to Death with full health is probably the hardest part of the game. If Dracula warped you back to stage 16 (like the game does with every other boss) that would be the worst. You certainly can get your practice in.

Hello spoiler alerts!

Some people never even finished this game here, and it was only a race in the sense that we all race out and bought it not that you win if you pass it first. I was waiting until September to even clean my nes and Castlevania cart so it will even recognize there's a game in there.

Did you at least finish faster than Dugongue? That was the actual race here 😉

Well, I am still gonna stream Castlevania when I have some off time.

If Ninja Gaiden is difficulty 10, how would you rate Castlevania?

Difficulty 10? Out of what 15? I don't know about 10 out of 10. I still gotta finish it myself. I just took out the cartridge to put on Super Mario for some people I had over and now nothing wants to work again. So that's more frustrating than anything was so far in any game lol.

I guess depending on how much harder those last bosses are in NG1 will determine the overall difficulty in my mind but I'm thinking even with that its maybe an 8 out of 10.

Well to not make it too complicated, I just gave a number so we can compare CV to NG.

But before you rate NG, you should see if you can beat it first smiley:::winking raspberry

I'd put NG at a 7 or 8 and Castlevania at a 5 or 6. I beat Castlevania in maybe 90 minutes, no where near the D-man.

I look up forums and strategies for the Nintedo Power™ for tough action games though, that's not a go in cold difficulty. For example:

Knowing a whip can destroy a thrown axe whether high or low without ducking is extremely helpful in the hall before death. Who knows how much time and brainpower I might have wasted ducking and dying much more often before figuring that out?

So a level or 2 easier. I've never spent more than a few minutes on CV and I haven't read or watched any videos, so should be all fresh and green when I stream. I did the same for Ninja Gaiden.

Really? I was under the impression you played Ninja Gaiden a lot before.

Idk if I would say Castlevania is that much easier since its a lot stiffer than Ninja Gaiden. I guess if you slow down and make sure you don't make any mistakes it can be that much easier but as much as I love Castlevania and maybe even prefer it in most ways I feel much more in control of Ninja Gaiden so in that way it's almost easier to me because it's more my type of play style. It just flows better for me.

I played alot of NG2, but i doubt I remember much anymore. I did fire it up last night and it's definitely what I remembered Ninja Gaiden to be. Should be interesting to see how much I remember when I stream.

NG1 was all new to me. You can see it in my streams, I made alot of rookie mistakes as DD likes to point out and laugh at me.

Played some of NMH last night. That game was amazing for it's time. The Wii really didn't have many games with that mature of content and it really took advantage of motion controls in all the right ways.

I think NG is more fun because of the way it flows. Enemy placement has a lot to do with it for me. CV only respawns enemies that are well off screen, so if you're methodical you're usually only fighting one thing at a time. It also never had a bat or jetpack guy spawn on the other side of a jump to knock you back and kill you because "Fudge you player, you didn't know that guy was there!". And dying to the final boss doesn't warp you back to the beginning of the hardest stage in the game smiley:::raspberry

I think 5-2 is just as hard as 6-2 actually. Mostly because of that one jump climb. Once you get the hang of either level though they are fine and there isn't too much needless dying.

But yeah when I first picked up both of them again in the last few months since I've been playing nes again I noticed a higher difficulty in Castlevania from the beginning whereas in Ninja Gaiden the levels become progressively harder throughout the game. But again in Castlevania (at least not when I played again a month or two ago) the flow is much slower and you can't just fly through the stages the way I can in Ninja Gaiden. You are literally forced to kill a lot more enemies in Castlevania to be able to keep moving forward.

In Castlevania, you walk and kill enemies. In Ninja Gaiden, you run and slash enemies. In Ninja Gaiden II, you let the enemies hit you and try to run past that BS.

I started playing the game "cold" as well, wanted to test myself to see if it made me mad enough to want to look up ways around obstacles. Didn't time myself but I started after the kids went to bed and looked at the clock when done, roughly 1.5 hours or so I'd guess. Not much of a speed runner type of guy personally. It used to make me mad when my friends would skip over things just to get through the game. Although I can certainly see that as a way to replay a retro game now a days, after you have fully explored it.

I'd say a 6/10 on difficulty and 7/10 on fun.

It's been so long since I've played NG2 I wouldn't know how to play it anymore probably. So I'm hoping you're exaggerating about this but I don't think I played it long enough to finish it as a kid so you're probably right lol.

It's strange how vividly I remembered things about the first one though and what I had forgotten still seemed totally familiar. I'm hoping I will feel the same way about the second one but I'm thinking of just getting the Xbox version again and just unlocking the 2nd and Third Ninja Gaiden Snes games there mostly to save money but also because I need to give those og Xbox games an actual chance. People say they're great so I need to try again.

DG can pick October's game. As long as 3 or more people concur.

Nope. In general it's not too bad but towards the end you will definitely be seeking out strategic hits to take in order to bypass the otherwise obscene bullcrap you have to try and get through. The first game's design I could say was "brutal but tight" but NG2's level design would be best summarized as "a fudging mess".

Amazon's got a real problem. Ordered 7 sealed dvd/blu sets recently. Only TWO actually came properly sealed and actually new. The other 5 were reseals with obviously used discs and no registration card. They did remedy the last one and I got an actually new copy. This time was 4/5 not actually new and I just said eff it and took a hefty partial refund.
